    Dead Bodies & Zombies

The lore and backstory isn't revealed. We can only go by things Rocket has told us (even that's not set in stone), and what info we can gather from studying what we already have. So far, we know Zeds aren't undead, but "infected". Survivors are immune (or VERY resistant), which is why everyone else is either dead or Zed but us. (private hive NPCs not included) As well as that, Rocket has said that the player model and clothing system is too complicated to have player-Zeds. It would be a pain in the ass to have the server remember every player clothing option just for one Zed. @TMW Se7eN. I agree that zeds should flock around corpses, but that's not what this topic's about. EDIT: Ninja'd! 2 minute ninja! :o Damn.
  2. Funny. If that was true, you'd have quit your bitching about 3dp a LONG time ago, I'm sure. You're "forced to abuse the shit out of it"?! What you've effectively stated is YOU exploit 3dp to cover-peek, so everone else must be cheating. Nothing but excuses. Instead of rallying your troops to remove third person view, you might want to try encouraging them to play FVP-only servers. Seriously. Compaints of empty FPV servers are ridiculous, considering you apparently make no attempt to occupy them yourself. Don't try to convert the folks who are comfortable with the way things are. Find likeminded folks and play the way you choose. You'll catch more bees with honey than you will with vinegar. EDIT: @Inception. Do you think this is getting far enough off-topic? The 3dp/FPV banter is either going to end up full of rage or bias, depending on who shows up.
  3. There will definitely be servers, where folks know eachother well and have the same appreciation for the game, who use the new communication system fully. There are always communities of people who take certain aspects more seriously than others. I think the main point is giving folks the opportunities. Rocket seems to have a good handle on this. It's not about forcing anyone's hand, but letting them choose. It is a sandbox, after all.

    Dayz account

    Ummmm... Steam?
  5. I don't think anyone who boasts of the "PC master race" has any right to look down their nose at someone else's attitude. :P One thing about console DayZ. Very unlikely to be script-kiddied. Closed platform and all that.
  6. Awww gummy, I missed you too. I think you'll find (if you were an actual part of the community instead of just a negative-nancy) I have 2k posts because I enjoy discussion of this project. The door's always open if you want to talk nice, but I'm not going to waste my time sparring with your brick-wall banter.
  7. Hey gummy! ;) I'm guessing you'll struggle to see the improvement because you've still got your head jammed firmly in your ass. A pleasure, as always.
  8. Isn't Bungie's game Destiny supposed to be cross-platform online? Are we doing that now? Or maybe it's cross-platform, but without Xbox / PS / PC interaction. I might have misunderstood something. Anyhoo. The only thing I see preventing proper multi-platform-online gaming is licensing and money. Making good quality games sadly isn't as important as making cash, for the fat-cats. If a 3rd party do the port it has the potential to change a fair bit code-wise and make PC and console versions incompatible anyway. Keep dreaming though. It's something to aim for.
  9. Another solution would be 24/7 daylight. With that in mind. Rocket, dude, take all the time you need.
  10. They do tend to use lower-res textures / low render distances etc. for current console ports, (BF3 is an example of an EXTREME chop-down) but then again, the 360 only has 512MB of RAM. Which is a SERIOUS hurdle for modern gaming. Most players on PC aren't running the game MAXed, they're just given the option. And they should be choosing performance over graphical quality anyway. The way things are at the moment, Optimisation > Hardware. EDIT: Just to add, if they do port it and manage to pull a constant 60fps on Highish (for PC) settings, it'll be pretty damn good.
  11. Hmmmm, that remains to be seen. It would be true for 360s and PS3s, but I'm not so sure about the next batch. The upcoming consoles look to be on par with current mid-range PCs and software will be easily optimised. (exactly the same hardware across the board) That means, even though they're restricted in terms of updates, by not being open-source, they're likely to run DayZ just as well as, if not better than PCs on average. Realistically, control-schemes, server-hosts and updates would be the only things holding them back. EDIT: The console demand likely won't be as big as PC for this style of title though. It's kind of a niche market. (it just happens to have exploded in popularity recently)
  12. Well, I've played Arma3 with Xpadder before, without any problems. Modifier buttons allow you to multiply the number of functions you can set.Considering DayZ doesn't need NPC commands and all that stuff, it's probably going to end up having only a fraction of the controls of ArmA anyway. I can't understand why a console port is "unfortunate" at all. That's a seriously immature, knee-jerk reaction IMO. An outsourced console-port would be nothing but beneficial to BI.
  13. Do you have any idea how much it would cost to cover all those unregulated servers? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joke I don't really sell "immersion insurance". I don't even think "immersion insurance" is a real thing. Though with all the "broken immersion" cases we see at the office (I don't have an office), it'd be a lucrative market.
  14. "Have you had your immersion broken in the last 18 Months? Where there's blame, there's a claim!" Alternately, you could look into "immersion insurance". DISCLAIMER: Cover does not extend to Private Hives
  15. Un-refrigerated blood would be effectively dead. You're basically pumping yourself full of liquid rot after anything more than a couple of days.Recipe for disaster. I don't think the zombie "infection" is going to be the biggest risk. EDIT: Format
  16. I like the setup of the UI. Anything which is easy to understand and operate is going to be better than a bonny, fiddly thing. As for the font. Wouldn't you all rather just have Comic Sans MS all over everything? Everyone loves Comic Sans.
  17. I think the "quick-bar" sounds like it will make swapping between a gun and a torch just a wee bit simpler. Just have to wait and see.
  18. "It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A."
  19. If it's a proper suggestion RE. Forum administration, you'd probably be better off sending a PM to Boneboys.
  20. What would be good (if possible) is to have different footwear providing different degrees of traction, depending on the surface you walk/run on. I know I can run and climb faster in trainers than I can in boots, but falling on your ass is a real threat if you hit a particularly slippery patch of wet grass at a full sprint. The "hidden buffs" if intuitive enough, will allow for complexity without complication, if that makes sense.

    Zombies

Sounds like SA is going exactly the opposite route. I'm waiting for a nice devblog to sum it all up, but Rocket's said that zeds individually will not hit super hard, however their behaviour will make them dangerous. Running indoors, attacking while running and chasing you in packs will all make for a happy-fun-time, I'm sure. I also think they should gain on you. Of course, it shouldn't be impossible to escape a horde, just extremely feckin' difficult and/or terrifying.
  22. Form the sounds of things (no specific quotes off the top of my head. Sorry) functional clothing is a safe bet for SA. I'm guessing most folks just assumed something like this was on the cards.
  23. I would suggest putting more suggestions in your suggestions.
