More frequent server restarts.
[email protected] replied to killigon's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The problem isn't the rarity of loot or the time between server restarts, it's the fact that tin cans and useless crap are all over the place and nobody ever picks them up. In my experience, when loot-spots get filled and ignored, the loot doesn't cycle. -
Honestly, I think night-vison should be so rare that it's effectively non-existant as far as we're concerned. @ leviski, you could slap-together a makeshift NV-cam with some IR-LEDs and a camera-phone, but it would be REALLY crap. We're talking not much more than 5M view range when you're outisde. It wouldn't be worth the hassle.

Bullets are made to penetrate. They won't knock you back or send you flying, they go through you. That doesn't mean you'd just stand and take it. You'd be winded, weakened or otherwise forced to take a knee from WAY less injury than a gunshot, so it wouldn't be too unrealistic to leave you slightly stunned or stumbling briefly after you've eaten a couple of bullets. Maybe throwing you on your rear is excessive, but knocking you off-balance definitely makes sense.

It's definitely been brought up. I vaguely remember Rocket saying, when talking about weapon degradation, it probably wouldn't be so in-depth as to have folks disassembling weapons or replacing parts. The weapon models are being redone from scratch for DayZ, but I don't think they're being designed with field-stripping in mind. It'd be a good addition but I wouldn't be surprised if it's left out, for the sake of simplicity.

Some actions, such as exiting a vehicle and ejecting from a vehicle, have options to bind keys for them. (I use "V" and "2xV") Some actions are made more complicated depending on the context, like trying to climb a ladder if a car is parked close by, or opening a door if you've got a few magazine types to choose from at the time. What I'd like to see (which ties into the introduction of a "shove" move) is the ability to "shove" a door open. You'd still need to mousewheel if you want to close the door, but 9 times out of 10 you need to open a door in a hurry, not close it. I think simple hand to hand fighting is planned for SA already. We'll have to wait and see how that works out. For cars, if possible, a GTA style "enter the nearest vehicle" key would potentially reduce the number of mousewheel actions appearing at a time. You'd just jump in the closest available seat. Ammo types/magazines could be handled purely in the gear menu, or through the new "quick-bar". Just some ideas that might make the mousewheel menu less cluttered, so that important "emergency" actions are easier to accomplish when we're in panic-mode. EDIT: I lost my train of thought. If I'm not making sense, forgive me, I'm a wee bit hungover.

I think if he (Angry Joe) was going to review DayZ it wouldn't be until it goes gold. And that won't be for a while. (I don't think the current build would be getting a "Badass Seal of Approval", anyway :P) -

No sensible person is going to make that mistake twice. If they don't look up the keybindings after the first time it gets them killed, they've earned a bullet to the dome. ;) -
Hmmmm. I think I had FuckOS on a laptop at some point.

Co-op actions are always welcome in my book. The only problem I see is having two characters holding the same object (lifting a crate). The animations for that would be a pain in the ass. EDIT: Unless it's done as a "mini" vehicle, sort of thing. The player at the front is the "driver", and the player at the back just follows. Either player should be able to choose to "drop" the crate at any time. In case of emergency.
-
I was going to reply earlier, but the hat-banter is discouraging. Give me a wheelbarrow or shopping-trolly to move those crates (with a HELL of a lot of noise) and you've got yourself a deal. Also, maybe you shouldn't fit them in cars, just pickups, vans and trucks. That would mean different vehicles serve different purposes and each would be valued differently. Just a thought.

The Zeds are "infected", like in 28 Days Later. They are NOT undead. The speed of the animations has always been an issue. It's because of the fact that DayZ is a mod and uses models and AI from vanilla ArmA2. The soldier AI prevents zeds from bee-lining towards a target, instead thay zig-zag (as a soldier would, to avoid fire). This means they take longer to reach you, thus posing less of a threat. To combat this the speed of their movement and animations was increased. This leads to jerky movement. Sadly there's nothing to be done in the mod. It's just the way things worked out. Standalone DayZ will have purpose-built zeds, animations and pathfinding.

Stand Alone Vanilla Settings - Authentic Survival

You want scavenging to feel authentic, but nobody should dictate how other folks play. If you bump into another player, it doesn't make a difference to you how he got all his gear. He chose to play his way. I enjoy the uncertainty of walking into an area not knowing if you're being watched, or about to stumble upon a raiding party. I feel it greatly benefits the mood. That's why I'd like to see player-lists removed/replaced. Currently, even before you join a server you can make an educated guess as to the amount of action you're likely to see and prepare/act accordingly. This is the wrong kind of meta-game. EDIT: I don't want to remove ALL information about server-population, just restrict it to nonspecifics. -
Stand Alone Vanilla Settings - Authentic Survival

Personally, I don't care how other players go about gearing up. Whether they were playing "normally" or specifically seeking empty servers has no impact on my interaction with them. The only difference is, they've missed out on a vital aspect of the experience; contact (hostile or otherwise) with players. I would find lonesome scavenging exceedingly boring. Which is my main concern. The "population-indication" suggestion should apply outside the game. Knowing specifics regarding player numbers and identities detracts from the experience IMO. Joining a game with friends is as simple as finding an IP or a specific server name. Player-lists aren't required. Admins might need to see who's on, but nobody else does. -
I'll only make that mistake once. Rebound it to Ctrl+G right away. Bohemia games are usually pretty good at giving folks freedom to keybind for absolute convenience. Toggle vs. Hold, for example. There's just a few changes I'm wondering what outcome we'll be left with. Are we more likely to get ArmA3 handling, since that's the more recent development, or will it be more like ArmA2, since that's more familliar for DayZ? 'Nades and stances are the two things that stand out, but there's probably more that have slipped my mind. I'd like the option to mix and match. But that's not very likely to happen.

I agree with most of what you're saying, but pitch-blackness at night time should only occur when there's no moon out. Though increasing the challenge is vital, having the setting feel natural is more important IMO. Also the playerlist thing works both ways. You could be running around on an empty server for hours without noticing. It would be kind of pointless to play by yourself, so maybe instead of specific player numbers we should have a simple indication of rough-guess low/medium/high population. That way you couldn't know the playercount specifically, but you could avoid totally barren servers, or find space for a few players at a time etc. -
Just tell him it's only a matter of time until people carve underground instanced penis-shaped bases.

Heavy stuff like that would get you killed pretty quick VS. the runners in DayZ. -
I actually think making it more difficult and complex would make it MORE likely to be obscene.Folks are going to be impressed when they see a 50 foot cock and balls carved into a beach, if they know it took the guy ages.

Need help trying to get 64 bit Dayz

Whatever the case, I'm sure they're making a conscious effort to ensure that current players won't have to buy a new rig JUST for DayZ. -

@ joe_mcentire Maybe they're a secret? I haven't seen any, or heard anything about it. There might be some problem with making them that we don't know about. Put it in the Q + A  -

I don't think climbing up stuff or through windows is on the cards. Not for this map anyway. There are more things to take into consideration with that kind of interaction with map-objects. If we keep bringing it up it might get into a future map. It would be badass to have all those different ways to get in to / out of a building. Basements would be ace too. Maybe the underground base-building mechanics will eventually allow for preset instances on the map? It'd be better than nothing. -
With the new Zed-spawning mechanics allowing for clearing of an area, it'd probably be pretty easy to take over. If you have a group of like-minded folks with you. Putting fixed-position stuff would give a reason to visit. As long as the installation is useful in some way. It would still be cool just to hang around, but it would be better if it served a purpose.

We'll move in and set up a Willy Wonka style bean-base.

Real Military Style Faceshields/Helmets
[email protected] replied to a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'd rather see helmets for hockey/shinty/hurling than fancy military gear TBH. There would obviously be military gear around, but I think sports equipment should be more common. They'd obviously be for protection rather than looks. Because you'll look like an idiot running around wearing a helmet all the time. They won't stop a bullet, but they'll protect your noggin from concussive damage a bit. EDIT: -
