  1. I'll make an introductory segment here on why exactly I'm asking. If it doesn't interest you, the question in and of itself will be in a separate block of text under this. While playing dayZ, I tend to coordinate with friends to the degree of joint signing in and out. Yet I tend to play a tad more than the others and would still like to solo around chenarus to get a better feel for the landscape without compromising my ability to operate with my friends when we decide to get on together. Also, sometimes I'd like to let my more skeptical buddies get a sort of "try before buy", since I'm almost certain after they experience the game they'll pick it up and join us at the first available moment. To this end my arma game is set up with multiple sub profiles, which ultimately sets up my question. Are day Z characters saved according to arma 2 profile, or steam account/CD key? in other words, if i switch from arma profile A to arma profile B, will i still load the character I use cooperatively, will that character be erased in place of a new one, or will they both exist as separate entities, both accessible at will? (for clarity, I'm NOT trying to get two profiles from one account working simultaneously, I'm only trying to make a sort of solo play character and a co-op play character for myself)

    Apology

Personally no matter how many times I wind up dead at the hands of a bandit, I refuse to kill another player. Truthfully, this has led to many a fine meetings with other players that actually acknowledge my call of "friendly" and meet it without feeling the need to gun down a decidedly neutral party like a massive prick. But that out of the way, the reason I choose not to kill other players is quite simply because I value the survival aspect, and we've seen how screwed that can become via negative reinforcement from some trigger happy bullocks, I'm quite curious to see how well it can be reclaimed by the positive reinforcement of some... much less violent bullocks...... Anyway, personally I can't wait to become a hero, at which point, you'd better believe that every bandit skinned player i see within a kilometer of me will wind up full of more parts lead than blood, or marking another murder notch on the butt of their gun.

    Outside looking in

a 560 or 660 superclocked may fly. I know I run max settings fine (read: up to server latency) on a gtx 580. For what it's worth, I'd suggest going G.skill ripjaws X (1600) to save some cash per chip on the RAM. on that note, unless you're doing video/3D rendering, 16 gigs is pretty overkill. If you're looking at running games more smoothly or something of the sort, I personally run 8 gigs (for now until my super build with 64 gigs [but again, that's for CG rendering purposes]) and it runs perfectly. More RAM isn't going to make a difference at that rate. truth be told, i'd chop down to 8 or so gigs and use that extra cash saved to beef up the video card. for the case specifically, just make sure the mobo mounting is compatible and the case dimensions allow for everything you're going to throw in it. Aside from that, read some reviews and try to pick one that has good airflow. No sense in scrimping on a case if it's only going to superheat your equipment and lead to poor handling.

How to instantly make dayz more fun

well that was a pretty rude way to put it, but I agree, zombies should be more threatening, although, you should start with some defense mechanism other than "oh shit let me run for a few miles". And for the people saying "screw the zombies, I want pvp"... what the fuck guys, get on some vanilla OA servers... I swear, those things are dead as hell right now, and they're essentially 100% pvp. I got the damn game for mil sim, but all I could find were day Z servers :/. Long story short, stronger zombies, base level defense, if you're only in for pvp why the hell aren't you on vanilla servers?
  5. Does day Z mod not carry over ArmA2's built in weapon down control? I haven't had a chance to give it a try yet, but using rifles, i have 2x ctrl set to lower weapon. Having someone walk up to you slowly, rifle lax in your arms, muzzle to the ground does a pretty good job of showing peaceful intention, though it could be better, I suppose. OP: I didn't go skimming through 25 pages of suggestions, and hopefully the main post is constantly updated to sum up this whole thread, so I won't be saying anything that's already made its course...but.... the biggest improvement I think they should make is the body's environmental hit detection. What I mean is that crawling up stairs while prone is a total chore. not even to the degree of "such an activity is generally hard, physical strain for realism", I mean in most cases it just can't be done because you static clip the first step. The same thing happens while going through some doors while prone or crouched. Not only that but some doorways will force you to stand up. The entire point here is this forces you to stand and sometimes accidentally run, which greatly increases your audiovisual signature, and as a result, aggros zombies that you were intentionally prone/crouched to avoid. I've seen arma 3 mentioned several times in your OP, so I'll be going off the assumption DayZ standalone will be made in arma3's engine, and i trust A3's core engine is already tuned up in this aspect. But never having used it personally, I'm still covering bases and pointing out that if this hasn't already been treated, it may need to be. EDIT: I forgot to mention how frustrating it is that you can't defend yourself AT ALL before scrounging some gear. I mean even a super weak punch / kick system would remedy this problem. To that end, why not allow the flashlight to bludgeon an enemy or something, since the LMB doesn't have a function (or if a punching system is added, perhaps LMB could be a momentary switch to use morse code for long distance communication... idk just tossing out ideas now....)
