When reading stories like this I usually wonder whether OP had said something they shouldn't have (such as a racial slur or something else that usually tends to turn things sour) shortly before things went south. The shit pertaining to installation is how I've installed the game on 2 separate occasions (no issues) 1. Yes, Combined Ops is all you need. After you download them (something like 15GB combined) run Arma II, then run Arma II: OA. You can simply let it run to the menu screen then quit out. This is supposedly necessary for dayz commander to be able to recognize the game directories. 2. Just download the games on steam, then go download Dayz Commander. Once you have dayz commander, find the install/update button in the upper right of the gui. Update/Install the current arma II patch and Dayz itself. Now you're ready to launch the game. Just double-click a server name via dayz commander and you'll join. 3. I can't see why that com would have issues running the game smoothly. I was running the game on an I3 2330m, 2.2GHz, 4 gig, HD3000 integrated graphics laptop for months (graphics nerfed, but it still ran). 4. Seems active enough. I haven't played it since the beginning, but there are always loaded servers to be found. 5. Yes, you find your servers. Use the filter option on dayz commander. Avoid incorrect dayz patch versions. Incorrect arma versions are less problematic. Full servers are more hacker prone. If there is a symbol that resembles a dufflebag to the left of the server name that means it is not connected to the hive (i.e., if you spend time equipping your character it will not transfer over to other servers, just that one). Private hives are usually more admin active, thus usually less hacker prone, but there are exceptions. 6. Hackers usually troll the more populated servers. On low population (less than 10) servers I only ran into a hacker once - he forced me to take an m4a1 CCO SD, NVGs and a ghillie... not bad for a run in with a hacker. Don't get too attached to your gear. You'll lose it all, a lot.

CPU and RAM will play a large role in your game quality as well. Also, supposedly this game is particularly HDD intensive. What I'm getting at is don't be surprised if a new vid card doesn't entirely bail you out. To answer your question, I use a Radeon HD 7850 2Gb on a 1680 x 1050 resolution and the game looks like sex. I suggest you google vid card benchmarks and do a cost vs quality comparison based on how much you're willing to spend. This card was $200 and was rated better than many $400 cards... just sayin' - shop around.

Probably pretty smoothly, although certainly not flawless. I recently upgraded to an fx8120, radeon hd 7850 with 8 gigs ram and even with all that there are some hiccups.

So I put along down to the NW airfield in order to get some ammo for my shiny new mp5sd and hopefully to find a tent as well. All goes unexpectedly well, I find a couple mags for my sd and I also find a sexy ass tent hanging out in the vybar 7-11 after hours of searching. As matter of fact, I think I found enough flashlights to illuminate Manhattan for a year before I found that god damned tent. Regardless, I'm happy, and I set on my way to the spot I have picked out for a campsite. On my way out of the city I hear an abrupt voice telling me to "get down, or you're screwed". At this point I assume it is a hacker, there were only 3 of us on the server and on a server like that people usually don't fuck with you. All I had equipped was a g17... not exactly combat material. So I got down and considered my options. He asked me what I needed. I jokingly said, "NVG goggles if you happen to have a pair". I then proceeded to get item raped. The son of a bitch forced me to take some fancy ass m4 silenced with an acog sight and a ghillie suit and nvg goggles and all sorts of shit. It was horrible. I feel dirty.
