  1. The past couple days I found a private server with an absurd number of working vehicles. Like several in every town. Balota airstrip was litterally a parking lot. Now I know the dayz purist will say that something is lost by not having to spend 3 days scrounging for parts only to have it stoloen. And that may be true. But imho tons of cars make for a faster, more dynamic game: The roads become a LOT more dangerous. More flexibility living out of a car than a stationay tent. Some protection against bandits and snipers More tense moments waiting to see where that convoy is heading the drama of helicoptors going down in cherno and electro less time spending hours wandering the wilderness...unless you want to...there are good reasons to trade speed for stealth Road trips! So what do you think? Should cars be rare and valuable items, common as makarovs or somewhere in between?

    day z needs more vehicles!

The problem IMHO is that you have to spend so much time covering so much distance to find a vehicle AND all of the parts to make it run that it sort of defeats the purpose of it. You might as well just walk to wherever you were going to go with the vehicle in a fraction of the time it would have taken you to make it work. And at the end of the day, someone can just steal it when you are offline. Which is the whole reason people hoard them off the edge of the map and barely use them. Personally I find more common vehicle useage makes the game less boring. Especially at night. Couple of highlights: Driving a motorbike wearing NV goggles with the lights off. Saw a bambi running down the middle of the street with his flashlight. Beeped the horn as I zipped past and probably scared the shit out of him. Drive up to the warehouses near Kamenka. I'm searcing around for a jerry can when a survivor comes running in the door with a dozen agroed zombies behind him yelling "lets get the fuck out of here!!!". We run back to the car and get the fuck out of there. (I know the zombies were effectively trapped in the building because of the walking in building thing, but it was still funny). This afternoon, I don't know what the heck was going on, but a helicopter (am MI17 on a high vehicle server) landed in a field near the woods where I was walking. Then another (a Huey). I could see the crew get out, shining their flashlights and searchlights around as they conducted whatever operation they were performing. Then they flew away in the MI17. The Huey didn't have much fuel so I fure that's why they left it. I took off, figured out how to fly it in the air, then skidded it into the woods outside of Cherno (I survived). I felt bad for wrecking their bird, but finders keepers and I could have killed them from my observation point with my NV goggles and DMR rifle if I wanted to anyway. Vehicles mean constantly choosing between stealth and speed/carrying capacity. Everyone hears when a convoy rolls up into town. And they make the roads a lot more dangerous.

    Adding Armored Vehicles

I like the idea of more options rather than less. But I don't think we want Cherno to look like Black Hawk Down Somalia either. So maybe you would have the option of mounting an M-249 or other machinegun to the back of a pickup or adding armor plating to vehicles at the expense of speed. No armored fighting vehicles like tanks or Bradley IFVs (or BMPs I suppose since it's former Soviet republic).

    What is DayZ to you?

It's a social game theory simulator. Put 50 people in a huge combined wilderness/urban setting with no rules other than survival and no equipment other than what they can find. See what they do. I disagree with the anti-high vehicle server crowd. Not like 1400 vehicles, but enough where I can find a ride to the next town if I need it. I know some would prefer a Bear Grylls style survival game, but to me the vehicle aspect is just as important. The show's called Walking Dead, not Walking Everyone.
  5. flying is easy. You just have to remember smaller movements than you might be used to in other games. I figured out how to fly in 10 minutes. Unfortunately landing is the hard part. I didn't realize I was landing on a hill (NV gives bad depth perception) and I skidded the Huey into the trees. I'm fine but I don't think the helicopter will fly again,

    day z needs more vehicles!

IMHO, it creates some new tactical considerations. I like the speed and mobility, but I might stash the vehicle so I can approach on foot with stealth. Or I might want to roll in fast, get what I need, and roll out. Personally I'd rather find the occassional working vehicle and maintain it than have to spend days scrounging up the parts. But that's me. I work and only have a few hours every couple of days to play. I agree too many is stupid. I just joined one server with 1400 vehicles. Balota Airfield looked like the entire 82nd Airborne Division was deployed there. Except all of the helicopters were broken. Plus the server was super laggy. So I basically shot a bandit in the face and logged off.

Actually they rule. Seriously, who wants to spend hours running from Kamenka to...anywhere else? The maps are so big your chances of encountering someone away from the coast or the NWAF are pretty small. And why make vehicles so rare that anyone who actually puts one together then hides it forever off the edge of the map?

    day z needs more vehicles!

I find on normal servers, it's pretty rare that I see even a broken vehicle (other than maybe a bike).

I think no loot spawn either. But that's more of a technical problem, not a gameplay issue IMHO. I respectfully disagree with those who say vehicles are in opposition to what DayZ is about or not "realistic" for a zombie apocalypse. In films like the Romero Dead films, Zombieland, the Walking Dead, even Resident Evil, having ground and air transportation played a key role to the story. Realistically, you would have a hard time surviving a zombie infestation without some form of transport. I don't think it should be Grand Theft Auto, but having a bunch of half-fueled junkers that are just one bullet or bump from breaking a mile from the next town isn't bad. Don't worry, On the high vehicle server I've been playing on, the coast is still a shit storm!
  10. So apparently there are private servers where one can be banned for calling 'friendly' then shooting someone. Some lunatic lands a chopper in the appartment complex behind cherno. I call out friendly to hitch a ride. Some asshole shoots him while I get attacked by zombies. Then I got killed by presumably the same shooter. Pilot thinks I did it and get a tempoary ban! Sorry but that's bs! Not that i was unjustly acused ut that its a rule at all! What is the point of these lame servers with 24 daylight, no pvp and now no meanies?
  11. I'm all for private servers. And if people want all friendly no PvP that's fine with me. I think it defeats the purpose of the game, but to each their own. I found a server where working vehicles were so common, it was easier to find a new ride than a jerry can. Every few minutes a Little Bird or Huey flew overhead. IMHO, it makes for a faster, more interesting game. But I'm sure the DayZ purist would say that vehicles should be rare items that take hours to repair.
  12. I'm banning you and every other hater from my private hive where everyone starts with a helicopter and AS50, no PVP, no PVZombie, no PvAnimals, 30 second day/night cycle and zombies shit cans of beans and piss Mountain Dew. The rest of your are invited.
  13. I just don't understand the desire to turn what is a unique game into basically another COD or Battlefield.. Heck, even in Battlefield people used to team kill to get the Apache
  14. I think I'm going to keep mine.

It's OK To Not to Love PVP

I like the pvp,but rarely do I just kill for its own sake. And sometimes I like just wandering the woods. Really if you want squad based pvp arena combat with 50 cal sniper rifles go play cod or battlefield. If you like exploring a vast wilderess not knowing if that building up ahead contains a potential friend or a clan of psychotic jerks, play this game.

    DayZ needs more guns

I once axed a man to get his ak. Honestly id be content to have an easier way to switch to ax for silent zombie killing.
  17. That's why I only keep what I can carry on my back.

    DayZ needs more guns

I want hunting knives, bats, golf clubs, hockey sticks, katanas, Maglite flashlights and chainsaws (don't forget to fill with gas!) as weapons I want F to cycle through ALL my weapons -Rifle, pistol, ax, grenades, flashlight - without having to do that weird mouse thing to switch from rifle to pistol or "take ax from toolbelt". I want the empty whisky bottle to be a legitimate weapon.
  19. bfisher

    Do you even aim???

I've found that I only tend to get killed in firefights if a) the other guy totally has the drop on me B) my weapon is totally out classed (ie pistol v rifle) or c) im on a laggy server and can't react quickly enough in close quarters. Last couple of wins: Caught a ghillie suited bandit sneaking up behind me with an AKM, maybe 50-100m off. Turn, we both duck behind opposite ends of a long wall, switch to first person, zoomed gunsight, single Winchester shot to the face. Pistol fight in the woods. Duck behind a tree. He fires, I do a little E, fire, E, fire while my partner flanks to the right. Nothing but flies buzzing around .45 hole where his face used to be. Last couple of losses: Running around Cherno with an Enfield. Some guy starts spraying me with automatic fire from a doorway. Server is too laggy to meneuver properly but he must have fired at least an entire clip. Explorer a bar in Cherno. All of a sudden Katniss Everdeen bursts in the door firing her crossbow. Again, can't line up the target properly with my revolver because the frame rate has gone to shit. I don't like to spray and run. Better to find cover, aquire the target, then spray the shit out of him.

    AS50 Extremely Rare LOL.
  21. I don't know. The current PvP is pretty much in line with your typical zombie films. Unless you team up as bambis or play with people you know, you can't really trust anyone. Some people are just jerks or psychos. Some are just scared you'll take their stuff. Doing away with anti-materiale rifles like the AS50 or making them more rare might help keep the game from turning into a sniper duel over Cherno and Electro. I think a combination of zombies being more dangerous and having the ability to fortify structures or areas into "safe zones" would help foster cooperation. Also, there needs to be more to "do". Once you get geared up, it seems like the choices are to hide in the woods or go to the hot spots and hunt other players. Also, what happens in every single zombie movie or show? The characters create a "safe zone" which is ultimately breached by the zombies!

    My First Day (and night)

Ahhh to be a Noob again. Seeing the gradieur and majesty of the NW Airfield for the first time. The pair of NV goggles you try on. Finally finding that first M4, DMR or M249 SAW and feeling like a man (or woman if that's how you spawned)

    "Zombie Logging" What's your take?

Zombie logging is perfectly acceptable, given your problem...down there in your vagina...which you have in lieu of a penis. I do think it's ok to log off to avoid hackers. The other day someone teleported me from Belota to Cherno. All I knew is one minute I was on a hillsde surrounded by trees...the next I'm standing in a pile of dead players with the sound of gunfire all around me. Fuck that!
  25. I don't care about snipers. How are Dayz snipers any different from COD or Battlefield snipers? Don't want to get sniped? Stay clear of Electro or Cherno. Use trees and building for cover. Run serpentine patterns across open fields. The only thing I don't like about snipers is sometimes I can't tell if I was sniped or instakilled by some hacker.
