    SA: 'No advanced weapons'

I'm so sick of the bitching about antimaterial sniper rifles. They would be extremely rare and their ammo would be even more rare if it wasn't for the hackers. I've never found one in it's natural environment. If a server of 60 people has one or two jerks who want to lug those things around (not like they weigh any more than any other weapon) and go all Charles Whitman from the top of the smokestacks in Cherno have at it. I just don't want the game to be a constant sniper duel at 1000 m where the "default" loadout is AS50, DMR and a ghillie suit. SOME advanced weapons are neccessary. it gives you something to aspire to. But it also makes you a target. If there are only a couple of Barett M107s or AS50s, don't you think people are going to start hunting those snipers to get their hands on those guns? I don't want to have the default weapon be a baseball bat with a nail through it either.
  2. I go to Kamenka and hack newspawns to death with a hatchet

    What's wrong with Berezino?

I like Berezino, but it's way-ass far north. It's parallel to NWAF but without the military firepower bonanza. And you don't spawn near it. Also NEAF sucks. So bottom line is your best bet as a new spawn is to Leroy Jenkins into Cherno, Electro or Balota Airfield and grab medical supplies, some food, tools, whatever gear you can. If you are lucky, you'll find an AK, Enfield rifle or tactical shotgun and a pistol before some bandit finds you. Assuming you survive the coastal Call of Duty fest, next step is to hike up to Stary or NWAF to grab some heavy duty loot. If you're lucky you'll come across a heli crash and find a coveted DMR, .50 cal AS50 or Barett M106. Then it's back down to the coast to kill everyone. And so the circle of life continues. The only reason to go to Berezino or the entire east side of the map for that matter is that you want to avoid the whole shit-show and eek out a living carebearing through the woods.

Why do you shoot unarmed players?

The other day I spawned near Kamenka. I managed to find a double barrel pretty quickly but then I ran into a group of newspawns being chased by like 20 zombies. I'm like "guys...I'm sorry but we aren't getting away from these zombies. I'm gonna have to shoot you in the legs so I can get out of here." I was just fucking with them. We ended up teaming up for awhile. But seriously, anywhere East of Balota airstrip, I assume that any newspawn is just a bandit who hasn't found a weapon yet. Still, I rarely KOS someone if they aren't an immediate threat.

We need a completely different loot system

There shouldn't be an "end state". Once you have all the gear, survival is pretty easy unless you killed by another player. You should have to constantly be dealing with survival issues. And stuff that makes sense like meat spoiling in your backpack or having to build a fire to avoid freezing. Not random stuff like dying from tripping on a rock.

    "Bambis..."

It's supposed to sound ridiculous. Like a deer stupidly walking through the woods waiting to get it's head blown off by a hunter.

    Everybody heads for cherno!

People are all over the map. It's just that the map is so big 60 people can easily never see each other.

  9. Somehow I doubt that in any post-apocalypse scenario you would have a lot of people roaming the wasteland outfitted like a Delta Force sniper wearing a ghillie suit and an .50cal anti-material rifle just randomly shooting people.

what brings you to day z ?

I don't think there's any other game where you feel such tension at the mere sight of another player. Probably because you can be walking around for hours without seeing another soul. You get tired, impatient and careless and then the next thing you know you there's some guy (or girl). Does he see me? Should I try to talk to him? Can we trust each other? Should I just blast him with my Remington shotgun?

    Genre dun for?

Seriously...do people even WATCH zombie films and shows like The Walking Dead? 90% of the people you meet who aren't zombies are total assholes who will either kill you or are so annoying you should kill them. Why should DayZ be any different?
  12. The problem now is there is not "best route" to anywhere. Sure you can avoid Cherno and Electro...but to do what? Head up to Zelengorsk to get some firepower at NWAF or Stary, which are almost as bad? Then you get bored and head back down to the coast with your new guns?
  13. In the new developers video, Rocket mentioned that your discarded bean cans and whatnot will store info that the game can use for tracking with dogs, maybe fingerprinting in later versions. But yeah, there's no way you can track someone for days on end Last of the Mohicans style.
  14. I don't know. Just "more" of everything I guess. More map, more detail, more places to go. More things to do and see. More ways to interact with (and possibly destroy) the environment. More vehicles. More weapons. More cool and grotesque ways to kill zombies Dead Rising style. More ways to make your character unique. More ways to communicate to other players. I think what makes DayZ unique is: Open unstructured environment Unforgiving Constant threat of death No rules No safe zones Draws heavily from established classic zombie lore - Romero, 28 Days Later, Walking Dead, etc I haven't thought through all the gameplay mechanics, but buildings should be more than just loot spawn centers. They should be required for shelter and protection. Forget digging Ho Chi Minh tunnels as bases. How about just fortifying any of the hundreds of buildings in Cherno with some 2x4s over the windows and doors Night of the Living Dead style (assuming you could go into them). Maybe make it so you don't disappear when you log off? You just go to sleep. The world still goes on around you so you better find someplace safe before you tuck in. And you better log back in every day or so in order not to starve or dehydrate and just to make sure some other player did steal your shit and/or murder you in your sleep. How about your food, drink, rest and health and even how much stuff you carry affects your speed and performance similar to how shock or injuries already do? Actually force people to make a trade off between outrunning zombies and shuffling along with 30lbs of AS50, 10 lbs of DMR, plus another 50 lbs of ALICE pack gear. How about dynamic fire like in FarCry 2 that will spread through trees and buildings? But really I just want more stuff to "do". Light sniper hill on fire. Spraypaint my clan sign on the Electro power plant smokestack. Build a barricade around Kamenko and declare myself the Governor. Talk to other players using the radio transmitter on Green Mountain. Go on a long and dangerous roadtrip to somewhere worth going to. Try and get the lights on in Stary Sobor. Drive a train from Barezino to Kamarova.
  15. Were you planning on raping him or something? :o

    Ethics of the common player

I don't like having to KOS random players. But I don't mind letting them off with a stern warning. Like today. I'm scouting out Polana for a raid on the supermarket. I figure it's pretty safe. Not too many zombies. Not much through traffic. Not too many trees providing a wide field of view of anyone approaching. So just as I break from the tree line, I see a UAZ offroad jeep coming towards me, about 200m away. I don't know if he sees me, but I'm in a really bad spot. No cover. Too far from the treeline to outrun the jeep. And I don't know how many people are inside or what they are armed with. So I start firing at the UAZ with my M4. After about 5 rounds to the hood and wind screen, he does a 180. Since he's no longer a direct threat anymore, I let him go and run back to the tree line. I have a hard time being one of those dicks who just goes out of his way to kill every other player for no reason...usually.

    Ethics of the common player

This newspawn I saw from half a mile a way doing a commando crawl on Kamenka was pretty harmless. For laughs, I snuck up behind him, pointed my shotgun at his head and was like "wasup?" over direct chat. Probably scared the crap out of him. Didn't kill him though.
  19. Maybe I'm just pissed off from having been sniped, run over, shot down, blowed up or otherwise had my day ruined by some little jerk. But here's what happened: Armed with nothing but an M16 and a Ural truck I found somewhere, I'm patrolling up and down the road between Kamenka and Cherno. First kill - Okay, maybe I could tell myself that I thought it was a zombie running across the road. But I know it was really some newspawn bambi. Second kill - Some other jerk in a military Ural wearing a ghillie suit smashes into me. Motherfucker wont quick so when the trucks lock up, I jump out and fire a couple of rounds into his cab. He falls out and I finish him off for good measure. But while I'm looting the body (which is a little too geared up FYI) every zombie in Komarova is now on my ass along with another player leading me to... Third kill - I think he's unarmed and he calls "friendly" but shit is too dangerous. Plus I can't risk him grabbing the M16 I dropped in exchange for the M4 holo sight. So I pull a Shane Walsh and give the zombies a handy diversion so I can jump back in the Ural. Fourth - I chase a car all the way to Kamenka but he escapes. I do find a new spawn who begs me to kill him. Presumably he has gone insane from the prospect of his long walk to Cherno. So I oblige him. Later I found the car I was chasing, abandoned by the other Ural and kill number two with the engine still running. Along with at least a dozen zombies. I assume he either got ate or had to run into the woods to escape. Anyhow, so that's my day.
  20. It's a sniper rifle designed for taking out a tank a mile away.
  21. One thing to keep in mind. Try to move through the back alleys and keep a wall or other obstruction between you and sniper hill / firehouses as much as possible. Change direction frequently. Keep looking around you. Not every bandit is a sniper. Also get off the damn road! Nothing screams "bambi" like some newspawn with the stock backpack and no weapons running crazy down the middle of the street.

is dayz 100% PvP on the long term?

Sometimes it makes me feel like a big man.
  23. From what I read online, it sounds like if anything there will be more and bigger hotels, hospitals, etc.

is dayz 100% PvP on the long term?

DayZ is always going to be PvP since there isn't anything else to do. And there are enough KOS jerks that it's always better to shoot first and listen to their "I had nothing! WHYYY!?!" bitching on side chat later.
