Hacked while offline? (no, CD key was stolen)
bfisher replied to Kerbo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It might just be a hacker. The same thing happened to me about 6 months ago. I logged off with run of the mill gear - AK, sidearm, some supplies, etc. When I logged back in, I had a whole night assault starter kit - silenced weapons, ghillie suit, nvg, gps, everything. -
Footprints on the ground- Dayz Standalone feature suggestion
bfisher replied to Pokerguy12's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't know. How many trees and bushes does the server keep track of? Or individual pieces of loot? Rocket already said he's tracking player info in like every single can you drop. You wouldn't want to keep track of every single footstep either. Maybe just the last 10 minutes. I mean what's the point knowing someone walked past Gvozno 4 hours ago? -
Obviously the thing that separates DayZ from other zombie games like Left 4 Dead, Dead Island, Dead Rising and so on is that it's more about the suspense of being in a huge open sandbox world with dozens of other players who may or may not want to kill you. And being derived from a military sim, I'm sure the folks at Bohemian weren't looking to show soldiers and civilians being blown, shot and hacked apart in glorious over the top bloody fashion. That said, does Rocket plan to have zombies and players being blown, shot and hacked apart in glorious over the top bloody fashion? I mean it doesn't need to be Dead Island or L4D, but surely he can add a bit of ragdoll physics and do a bit better than the cheesy red Kill Bill streams that shoot out of wounded players.

"Western" like North American city or "western" like dusty ole desert town with tumbleweed?

Will the standalone have more gore?
bfisher replied to bfisher's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That's what I'm thinking! It's creepy enough when you find a half dozen dead players (like why did no one take all this gear?). But it would be even better if you found it as a blood spattered pile of meat and backpacks. -
Will Snipers Be Removed Or At Least Tweaked In S.A?
bfisher replied to Pokerguy12's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm fine with AS50s in the game, but they should be relatively rare. And they would be if every hacker didn't spawn 20 of them into the game. IRL a Lee Enfield is nearly the same thing as a DMR. A DMR is just an M14 bolt action battle rifle with some enhanced optics and whatnot, but both would blow your head off at 1000m just as easily. But I'm with you. I'm fine with all manner of crazy military weaponry. But it should be balanced by scarcity, scarcity of ammo, weight considerations and other gameplay factors so it's not just a game of ghillie suited snipers shooting at each other from 1000 m away. Plus it's a big map! Why don't people just stay away from the sniper hot spots? -
A lot of people would probably just destroy the vehicles. I suspect he will continue to add vehicles, new features, weapons, loot, and details. Maybe even new regions at some point. It would be cool if they were all connected. Like if you had a boat and traveled East or South you could find some huge island (line Lingor Island) or entire new regions to the North.

I haven't played Nemesk specifically because of the EMP thingy and the superzombies. I'm fine with the drunken hobo virus zombies and other players as a threat. I don't thing adding some weird Resident Evil sort of monstrosity and the exploding Lost hatch effect adds anything to the game.

Started a new character this morning (since my last one got killed by some jerkass who called out "Friendly" and then shot me a split second later while I was fighting off a half dozen zombies. I didn't even know you were there asshole, next time just be a proper bandit and just ambush people or let them go about their business...but I digress) Anyhow, I'm starting to freak out. I haven't seen that many players, even though it's a full server with 60 people on it. Sometimes I do see someone else but they don't see me. And that just freaks me out more! I mean if that guy doesn't know I'm here watching him, is there some guy watching me right now? And does he have a sniper rifle or 2 other guys with him instead of my ax and a M1911? And every once and awhile I'll hear gunfire but I can't see whose shooting or place where it's coming from! I mean what if these idiots weren't all shootin and hollarin? I wouldn't even know they were nearby. Anyhow, all this wandering the wilderness NOT seeing people I know must be there somewhere is starting to make me really paranoid! I'm even hiding zombies I kill so people don't know I'm in town! I spent 20 minutes hiding in a barn loft!

Getting stalked by a helicopter south of NWAF while being chased by three zombies didn't exactly relieve my paranoia. I did manage to get to the southern barracks. Found a prone player inside facing into one of the rooms so he didn't see me. Looked dead but I didn't hear flies buzzing so I gave him a couple of silent hatchet wacks, just to make sure (it was just a dead body). Only thing I got out of it was a standard AKM and a shit-ton of ammo and some smoke grenades.

I just like to clean up after myself

I feel very uncomfortable going to my neighborhood A&P without my hatchet http://images.search...jK&fr=yfp-t-900

I also like having a shit-ton of vehicles. I mean why wouldn't there be after 90% of the world's drivers become zombies? The way it is now, what's the point of having vehicles if you have to walk hundreds of miles scouring the map to find when, then walk hundreds of miles scouring the map looking for parts, just so you can hide your trophy off in a far corner of the map for fear of it getting damaged or broken? I'm not saying it should be Grand Theft Auto: Zombieland, but if it were up to me, I'd have 1-5 vehicles in every town in various stages of repair and fuel. Quite honestly, running for hours in the woods is pretty boring.

Anyone else miss when you were a noob?
bfisher replied to Death_Dealer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I watched a bunch of YouTube videos before I actually installed DayZ, but that seemed to make it worse! The first video I saw was a group of bandits picking up newspawns in the middle of the night, driving them in a bus for 20 minutes to some wilderness base and making them fight to the death with axes! For the first week of playing it felt like Rick Grimes in Walking Dead or the dude from 28 Days Later waking up in the hospital and wandering around like what the fuck. The first time I saw a helicopter was scary as shit too. It didn't do anything but fly 1000 feet above Kamarova, but I didn;t know what to do. I still get freaked out from time to time and I've been playing for like 9 months. Like the other day, I found a dead guy in Novy Sobor with a shit-ton of gear and a damaged loaded up ATV about a mile south. I didn't know what went down but I just wanted to get the hell out of there. -
What to do after you have the best gear?
bfisher replied to wellwellwell's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've never had anyone kill me after I helped them. Most players seem like they either shoot on sight, make pleasentries and move on or will team up for a bit. -
Is it very common for people to play in organized teams or to secure large-ish camps? I've been playing a long time and I feel like I almost never encounter organized squads of players or large bandit camps. Usually single lone wolfs. Sometimes ad hoc thrown together groups. But I almost never run across organized, well armed groups of three or more teams of players or bandits. In fact, I rarely even see single tents anymore. Are they all up at NWAF killing each other or something?

DayZ SA: Make zombies a threat
bfisher replied to maninthewall's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The other thing is that zombies will be centrally controlled on the server in the SA instead of spawning when players come near. So instead of acting as a sort of player early warning system around towns while the woods are completely safe, the zombies will migrate all over the map. And they'll be a lot more of them. I read somewhere they have tested upwards of 4000 zombies on the new Cherno map. There's still going to be PvP of course. But it will be a different gameplay dynamic if snipers can't shoot with impunity from outside the zombie zone or gunfire attracts a herd of 50 zombies that will chase you to the ends of the Earth. -
I use the black face now. Shooting my character would be a hate crime!

Returning player, what has changed?

Zombies were really scary for a bit. But now they are back to being drunken hobos. -
Group Tactics; Whats your Tips?

Also don't be afraid to shoot your teammate in the legs and get the hell out of there if things get too crazy! -
Group Tactics; Whats your Tips?
bfisher replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Is teamspeak or Skype considered "cheating"? Because I thought it was pretty standard. Sort of like your team all had walky talkies or tactical radios or whatever IRL. Now maybe the DayZ purists believe you should only use direct chat. I'm of two minds about your use of the sniper. If you send him in with your assault team, you aren't really making full use of the sniper's long range fire and optics. Better to have him on a hill providing overwatch as the rest of the team goes in. He can at least call out approaching players and give you more tactical options. Of course that's only effective if you have teamspeak. If you don't, you are probably better off keeping the sniper with the rest of the team. And that's another downside. If your sniper is half a click away, he's extremely vulnerable unless he has a second teammate as a spotter/security. And your team is split up. Which means you need to go find each other after you achieve your objective. One bit of general advice is to set both a target and an egress rally point before you venture into a town, airfield or other hot zone. Especially if you don't use teamspeak. And set up your basic plan before you go in. Something simple. For example "On three we'll all go into Cherno and converge on the church. If the shit hits the fan, fall back to the gas station on the road West of Cherno. -
Your Best, "Worst" Vehicle moment in DayZ
bfisher replied to Meeshe's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
me and some guy I teamed up with found a Little Bird by the south barracks at NWAF. We hopped in and whether server glitch or lack of piloting skills we immediately flipped it end over end and landed upside down in a tree. Somehow we survived without a scratch! Booya! -
Nice cane grandpa. (I'm only 40). At least I have the maturity not to shoot newspawn bambis with not a can of beans to their name...I ran them down with a Ural...

Had to be what I observed today. I'm in the Electro supermarket stocking up on food and other supplies. Out of the corner of my eye, I see a player in the doorway with a Remmington shotgun. I'm covered behind the shelves so he turns and runs away without incident. A few seconds later, I hear the KABLOOW! KABLOOW! of his shotgun outside. Then zombies running past the window. I don't know if he's killing zombies or in a gunfight so I duck into the back room, shut all the doors and pick a corner to hide in so I can blast anyone coming in. Then more shots. KABLOOW!....KABLOOW! More zombie sounds KABLOOW!....KABLOOW!...KABLOOW!...zombies KABLOOW! Then he must have gotten knocked out or his legs broken or something. Because the next thing I heard was the distinctive "YAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHH!!! AAAAGGHHHH!!!" screaming of a player being eaten alive by zombies. Against my better judgment, I ran out to try and help. But the screams stopped so I couldn't find him and I started taking sniper fire so I got the heck out of there. Still...it sounded awful!
