Cool stuff to do with a helicopter
bfisher replied to bfisher's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Forgot to mention "stealing it in the first place". Especially as the original owner fires impotently at you as you fly away! -
The best way to fix all the "problems" of night time play is to have a day/night cycle of 2-4 hours like every single other game out there. The way it is now, people either play when it's light out or they shut down and find another server. If you only had to put up with the pitch black for a couple of hours, people would be more inclined to use flares, flashlights, chemlights and whatnot to keep playing. it would lend itself to more tactical thinking. Like if you don't have NV goggles, you best find a place to lay low for an hour until it gets light out. Or maybe you want to wait until dark to sneak into Cherno.

1) Become a bandit 2) Drive up and down the costal highway in a shot-up UAZ jeep 3) Pull up to a noobspawn 4) Stick your silenced M4A1 CCO in his face 5) "Would you like to be my friend?"

Will Sniper Rifles be nerfed in the standalone?
bfisher replied to VibroKnife's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I have a better idea. Get better at using cover and concealment so people don't see you from 500m out. -
Whats the point in repairing vehicles....
bfisher replied to Masterchief (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I would argue that there is no point. On official servers, you need to spend hours criss-crossing the map to first find a vehicle, then get all the parts to fix it. But once you have it, they are so rare and in demand and draw so much attention that you need to hide them in some far-flung corner of the map. They would have more of a point if the map were bigger or if it were much more dangerous traveling out in the open. Personally I prefer the custom maps with hundreds of vehicles. I don't think abandoned cars would be that rare after a zombie apocalypse. Plus I don't think wandering around for hours scrounging for parts is particularly fun. -
They won't hurt a tank. But any light vehicle they will take out the engine block with one shot. A human, they will pretty much kill you wherever they hit.

A couple of days ago, I saw a URAL big enough to haul those beans. You wanna get outta Cherno? You talk to me.

Who...run...Electro?

What will be the accessories? Scopes, reflex sights, flashlights, and picatinny rails or can we take some duct tape and 2x4s and turn 4 guns into one big gun?

Sadly, all the hackers drove people private servers. And the private server owners said "what the heck. If I'm going to run a server, I might as start with a pistol, map and starter gear, 600 vehicels, 30 helicopters, AS50 TWS, and extra bases so you can stock up within 2 minutes.

Do you want the game to be about interacting with players and sneaking past zombies or having sniper duels at a thousand meters? I don't care that DayZ has geographically accurate weapons. I don't even care that they have anti-material rifles. But if you are going to have the benefits of a .50 cal rifle (range, instant death, destruction of vehicles) you need to have the weaknesses as well (heavy, bulky, can only be effectively fired from a prone position).

I would love to see specific graphics settings locked

Why is everything so blurry with post-processing on? Is your character supposed to have glaucoma or something? -
How do you feel about donation bonuses?
bfisher replied to colekern's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I miss playing on that server! It was like GTA: Chernarus! I don't know why anyone would pay since every car had weapons in the trunk. -
Every time I've been to the NEAF, I've only found two types of spawns: jack and shit. Even Balota will reliably spawn an AK. Any reason NEAF seems so desolate all the time compared to the other airstrips?

I read that they will come later. Supposedly Rocket is designing cars so you can swap out parts and end up with a ghetto looking El Camino with the door from a Chevy Nova and the front left quarterpanel from a Ford Pinto. I hope he adds more vehicles too. The current setup where vehicles are a rare and wonderful treasure sucks. It's simply not worth it to spend hours rebuilding a car just to hide it forever at the far edges of the map for fear of having it stolen or shot up.

I think people are certainly entitled to whatever lifestyle choices they want to make in DayZ.

Is this abuse of store-looting allowed?
bfisher replied to Madrias's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
it's allowed...but frowned upon. -
I think you guys might be romanticizing a bit. DayZ felt exciting when you first started playing because you are in this huge, open sandbox. Chernarus is so big, you don't know what's out there so your mind fills it up with possibilities. And if anything all those YouTube vehicles helped do that. I saw videos of bandit camps where they would gather up noobspawns and make them fight to the death. Players stalking each other by roadflare with a couple of Makarov pistols in some remote warehouse. Hoards of zombies chasing some idiot who just fired an Enfield in Cherno. Clans of well-armed players air assaulting into Electro on a supply run. So I'm thinking wow, if I survive long enough, that's what I have to look forward to. The reality is, there actually isn't that much out there. Most of the buildings are sealed up. The zombies aren't much of a threat. There are huge stretches of empty wilderness. DayZ needs to somehow balance the post-apocalyptic feel of isolation with having stuff to actually "do". I'm excited by the standalone. I think Rocket is taking it in the right direction by fixing the zombies and putting them on the server, adding more locations and enterable buildings, more player customizations, more incentives to cooperate with other players so on and so forth. The one thing I hope he doesn't do too much is create some dumb backstory. That implies there is some way to "win". The fun of DayZ is not in following some story. It's in the emergent behavior that develops as players develop their own story.

Am I the only person that really doesn't care for 'base building'?
bfisher replied to Target Practice (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't know. I haven't been thrilled about the current method of "base building" where people pitch a couple of tents and some tank traps or barb wire in some far off remote corner of the map and then hoard all the weapons and vehicles they can find. I mean what's the point? What do I need to create a stockpile of weapons for, just so random players can come along and steal a DMR or M4? I'd much rather live out of the back of a UAZ than a fixed base. But that means playing on a custom server with hundreds of extra vehicles since there's no point in having one if they are so rare I'm afraid to use it. What sort of bases do people want to build anyway? Do people want to be holed up in a fortified townhouse in Cherno, I Am Legend style? -
The server restarted while I was on a dirt bike. When I logged back in, I was glitched up to my neck a couple of clicks outside of Stary in some field. Eventually I just starved to death.

Poll: Should players or zombies be the bigger threat?
bfisher replied to colekern's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Players should be afraid of shooting at other players for fear of attracting zombies and afraid of shooting zombies for fear of attracting other players. -
Driving a Ural up and down the coast road blasting the airhorn and running over anyone I saw.

I roam around a lot. Lately I've been around the NWAF / Vybor / Zelenegorsk area. But I think I prefer the Berezino / Krashnostav / Polana area.
