  1. I'm a bit confused about the damage/injury/illness system. I took some zombie hits and had to bandage up. Loss some blood so the screens a bit washed out. That part seems to be the same. I found some rubbing alcohol and "applied to wounds". It made the wounds "feel better" and eventually said they healed completely. So what does that mean exactly? How would I even know if I even had wounds that needed disinfecting (or worse)? Will there eventually be visual clues or something? Would that cause my player's condition to worsen? Will it get better over time (or with food and blood transfusions)?

    Getting injured in the SA

Makes sense, but there should still be some visual clues. Maybe I just have some bruises.
  3. I had a couple of thoughts. 1) Back in the mod, it was kind of nice to be able to mouseover a player and see who they were. They should have this in the SA as well. 2) It should only work within like 10-20 meters (or magnified equivalent through binocs or scopes) and only when you can actually see a player on screen. About the distance you would be able to recognize someone's face IRL. 3) It should not work at all if a player is wearing any kind of face covering, excluding sunglasses (helmets, masks, balaclavas, bandanas, etc). I think it would add an element of helping friendly players connect, as well as add an extra element of menace when you see someone covering their face. Are they wearing that helmet for protection or are they a bandit who doesn't want to be recognized.
  4. Good thing it's not up to you.

Your experience in the north / east cost ?

I found an M4 and a ton of ammo in the NEAF. So that's a nice change, not having that place be completely useless. And with my new firepower I feel like a big man now.

no water? Drink your own piss...

People survive in spite of drinking their own pee, not because of it.

    Can openers LOL

I don't have a can opener in my home. My family opens cans with a fire ax.

    I'm stuck.

I've had this happen a few times with buildings: 1) Had to wait until I starved to death. 2) Zombie glitched through the wall and glitched me out into the open freeing me. 3) Sometimes if you go right up against the wall, you can free yourself by switching different weapons. The animation might move you just enough to land outside.

Why is the world of dayz so static ?

Sweet Jesus, the fucking entitlement. People act like just because they dropped $20 to play an early release alpha DayZ should have 10,000 square miles of dynamically generated completely destructible environment, powered by CryEngine with every stick, rock and blood spatter modeled with real-time particle physics and a million AI controlled ragdoll zombies and the ability to build Minecraft style fortresses out of the environment. Or even worse, the fanboy base think that the alpha is an eventual prelude to that. Here's the deal. It's a freakin game. Constrained by the limitation of current technology, Bomhemia's finances and Rocket & Co abilities as software developers. The graphics will not be a good as a shooter on rails or even Call of Duty or Battlefield since the map sizes are an order of magnitude larger. Not to mention that Arma was apparently never designed for that level of detail anyway. It appears to be designed for tanks and helicopters and infantry engaging each other at distances of hundreds or thousands of yards. Not turning a hoard of zombies into bloody meat chunks with a fire ax, Dead Rising style. Be cool if it could though.

    Waiting for more content.

Exactly. I don't know why pretending that just because the game is in "alpha" stage that it's suddenly going to be a different game when it's released. There will be more loot and hopefully the zombies won't suck as bad as they do now. But the basic game is already there and it's the same game as the Mod. Wander around the vast wilderness of Cherno. Collect all the stuff you need to survive. Eventually you'll have so much gear and weapons that survival is no longer a problem. Go back to the coast to interact with other players (and by interact, mostly I mean engage in gunfights). I'm fully geared and just found an M4 with 3 magazines full of ammo. I don't know who or what I even need to shoot with that much firepower.

Kill on sight... my group is doing it now

Won't someone think of the fresh spawns!! It's only really bad for new players who think that they can tralalala around the coast grabbing loot because they don't know any better. When you start out, you need to be crawling from bush to bush, eeking out survival one can of soda at a time. It's a big freakin map. How much ground does the OP and his gang think they can cover? And search every building along the way? There are a heck of a lot of places to hide now. I've been playing all day on a server of 30 people and I maybe saw one other player off in the distance at Solniyniy.

    What Ruins DayZ

You know what runs DayZ? People constantly bitching about DayZ. Fundamental to DayZ is that every person you meet will likely shoot you on sight for what you have...or because they are psychotic..and nowhere is safe. I would even go so far as to say DayZ is more like The Crazies than The Walking Dead. That is to say even most of the players are suffering from the early stages of the disease where they are still coherent...they're just psychotic. Play as if it's actually you in the game and not some avatar. IRL, are you going to run by yourself into a bandit occupied army base or a city teeming with zombies and warring gangs? Fuck no. Not unless you are absolutely desperate. Yeah, it's frustrated to be walking along and suddenly BLAM..You are dead! without warning. Next time be stealthier and pay more attention to your surroundings. And how do people NEVER meet friendly players? I'd say 1 in 5 people I meet are friendly, at least to the point of not shooting me on sight. Although the last guy shot me after I took off all my clothes and told him I was going to rape him. That's understandable. If you want to collect shit and build a fortress against zombies and have no one shoot at you, play Minecraft.
  13. Do most of the players in the game seem mentally stable to you? :D
  14. I'm so freakin pissed. I went to Balota and got myself an M4 and a pistol and got shot coming out of the tower before I could even kill any fresh spawn! :D I think the situation will be a bit more balanced when and if Rocket floods the maps with zombies. People will actually need those weapons for something other than shooting other players and you won't be able to just stroll onto the airfields.

Does any one else feel burnt out already?

It makes sense actually. With most of the population turned into zombies, there would be all those vehicles and weapons just lying around for the taking. I liked those 1000 vehicle servers. They had a more frantic "the world is going to shit and everyone is trying to grab what they can" feel, vs the isolated I Am Legend feel of Vanilla Mod. IMHO of course. I can see the OPs point. I'm actually not playing the SA that much because I don't want to get burned out on M4A1s, rotten fruit and beanie caps before all the good stuff goes in.
  16. Likes: All the new buildings and locales. It really makes you feel like you can explore even the tiniest towns. The weapon system. Hot keys UI and inventory Character customization Being able to drink out of wells or streams without needing a canteen. Running around with an ax, a shirt and no pants like a psychotic Winnie the Pooh Dislikes: Server player count is too small. With all the new buildings, you could hide a hundred people in Cherno and never see each other. Balota is now NWAF..south. More variety of loot (I'm sure that's on the way). The instant black screen when you die or go unconscious. I liked seeing what happened around me after my character died in the Mod. Here's a big one: The zombies fucking suck. I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt since it's an alpha, but to be quite honest, I'm not sure if they will ever get better. I mean they made brand new ones and they're still kind of terrible. They move all retarded. Zombies should either shamble Walking Dead style or should go apeshit and sprint full-on at you 28 Days Later style. These sort of waddle up to you, stop, and go "blaaaaah!" until you bop them on the head with a fire ax. Even the girl zombies should knock you down if they run into you at full speed. And they seem all skinny and small. The hardest part about fighting them is trying to figure out where the "kill box" is. And are we to assume the zombies will just be scattered all over the map standing motionless until some player walks by? Or will they be wandering around on their own?
  17. Are you addressing Weparo or me? My idea takes care of that. Firstly, having the time of day in the server list would help avoid having to jump around servers until you find one you like. I'd want that anyway so I can filter on day, night, twilight, 24/7 day, etc. If you have to go to the bathroom or eat dinner, no problem. If you've been playing legit, you just have to wait a minute or so. Not a big deal anyway, since it's just your avatar that waits in the game. You can do your "waiting" while taking a shit or eating. It's just when you start hopping servers or alt F4ing whenever a bunny rabbit runs past, then the wait time starts adding up quickly. Maybe this is suspended if you are a certain distance from a town or other players. After all,if you server jump in the middle of the woods and there is no one to hear it, no big deal.
  18. You had me at knocking people out and force feeding them disinfectant until they die. I can't wait until we can craft a "Somali necklace" out of an old tire and a jerry can of petrol.

    How long have you survived?

After a couple of false starts (character deleted, killed by bandit, died for unknown reason, glitched through a floor and had to wait to starve to death), I've been alive for about 5 hours. I'm pretty geared up with a Mountain Pack, some food, water, medical supplies, helmet, parka, handcuffs, a Mosin and a pistol (no bullets for either). Of course my go-to all-purpose tool is my hatchet. I've had a few player encounters. Overall, people seem less "kill on sight-y". Met one dude in the town of Bor. He got fucked up by some she-zombie so I traded him some bandages for some bullets (which don't fit any of my guns). Ran into another guy near the church in Zenegorsk. He had an M4. We just sort of looked at each other then ran off in opposite directions. I have to say, I'm fairly impressed so far. With all the new enterable buildings, it really does feel like you can explore the towns and cities. Not just run to the payday loot spawns. And it really does feel like you get to actually create a distinct character based off of your experiences, not just stick with the same standard generic ArmA 2 military contractor skins. It feels a whole lot less "militarized" which is good too. And it's nice to have to think about surviving again. I'm worried I might actually have to eat all this rotten fruit at some point.

How to change a KOS'er mentality?

Some people are just idiots. I had one new spawn with no gear chase me down and try to punch me to death, Some face time with Sweet Lady Wrench calmed him down.
  21. Weird graphics glitches. Zombies warping through walls. Getting killed by the environment for no apparent reason. Having no idea where the heck I am. Loot hovering six feet off the ground. Finally getting one-shoted in the head by some unseen foe. Starting to feel like the first time I played the Mod. :D Just kidding. Well most of that actually happened, but I understand that it's a WIP. I've only played a few minutes, but already it looks pretty cool. Not sure if I like the concrete wall around Balota airfield and all the new buildings. I kind of liked the fact that Balota was a little piece of shit landing strip with a tower and a few hangers. Now it's like NWAF..S. Maybe a chain link fence might make it seem like it blends with the surroundings more. Just IMHO. Looking forward to checking out those apartment towers I see in the distance. I'm sure nothing bad happens there.
  22. If only rocket had released the Alpha 4 days ago. :(
  23. bfisher

    $29.99

Why would you not buy the alpha at $30? Even if I don't play it for six months, it's still a good investment.
  24. I think he has to focus on the underlying fundamental framework first. Make the world work. Then you can add more crap to it.
  25. Over a year too late for what? Did fighting zombies and killing other players in a huge post apocalyptic open world map go out of style? Battlefield and Call of Duty have been cranking out the same damn game every year for the past decade. If you like the basic premise of the Mod, and it seems like a lot of people do, I'm pretty sure they're going to like the Standalone based on what I've seen in the footage from a few days ago. It's basically the same game, but with more everything. More ways to customize your character. More buildings to explore. More variety of loot. More ways to get yourself killed. Sure, the pre-alpha isn't perfect. The zombies are a little lurchy, they still make that stupid "BLARGH!" sound and there are still some graphics glitches. But overall, it's starting to look at least as good as the Mod. And if nothing else, I think Rocket may have cured what's starting to get boring about the Mod - everyone funneling into the same cities and hot spots and turning them into KoS zones because the vast majority of the map is empty wilderness and un-enterable buildings.
