    Character reset again today/Sunday?

I just logged in, but I was back to where I was about an hour before the last time I logged out. Not a big deal as all I had done was run from a house at the edge of Berenzino to the construction site at sit there.

My opinion on Killing on sight...

I think people over think this KOS. Here has been my interactions with people so far: Bandaged some player who got clocked by a zombie in exchange for some bullets. (exchanged the bullets for bandages, not a zombie beating) Ran into the Electro church surprising two heavily armed players who then panicked and shot me. Surprised a player in a Balota barracks. Wounded him with an ax. Then finished him off when he screamed homophobic remarks at me. Unarmed player tried to punch me to death on the coast road. Gave him some face time with Sweet Lady Wrench. Couple of players took a pot shot at me in the new harbor town north east of Osha. Caught them coming out of the town and lit them up with my M4. Mosin wielding player and I surprised each other. After looking at each other for a moment, ended up in a gunfight, I won. Ran up to a player and proceeded to take off my pants and threatened to rape him. He shot me. Couple of "hey whats up" to new spawns on the coast. That's about what I would expect. I don't need constant hugs, but not everyone was KoSing me either.

Zombies should have MUCH more HP than humans

Keep in mind that zombie virus infected humans have "retard strength". They are like insane junkies on PCP, not like Aunt Flo with a bad case of influenza. They should run at you with no fear or feelings of pain until they are physically unable to continue. I think the general "rules" have been that they are like 28 Days Later zombies. That is to say, they shuffle around aimlessly until something attracts their attention and causes them to "agros". Then they go ape shit and run straight at whatever attracted them. Getting hit by a zombie has some chance to "infect" you with a deadly virus that is progressive, but curable with rare antibiotics.

What, exactly, is the point of this game?

"Affect" the environment, genius. As in "to change in some way". "Effect" means "to bring about". As in "Rocket effected DayZ so you can affect the environment any way you want." And "sandbox" just means an open world where you have a lot of freedom to roam around and do stuff in a non-linear non-objective based way. Grand Theft Auto is a sandbox game. There are objectives and missions, but you can basically roam around doing what you want if you like. Minecraft is even more of a sandbox as you can literally shape the world. Anyhow, I'm not interested in a semantic debate on the term "sandbox". To answer the OP: Other than lacking zombies, vehicles, wildlife (but having a lot more buildings to enter) and all glitches and bugs aside, the SA is pretty similar to the Mod. That is to say, there was never really anything to "do" in the Mod either except collect gear and survive. There are no missions. No end goals. No objectives. The only purpose is to stay alive as long as you can, in whatever manner you think best fits your personal style. You can hole up in a townhouse in one of the cities like Dr Robert Neville You can find some friends, create a clan and gear up like a bunch of commandos You can hide out in the deep woods living off the land (once wildlife and game are back..for now, you still need to go into town to loot for food) You can just wander from place to place (eventually drive from place to place Mad Max style) But most people seem to elect to run around the coast all crazy like until a sniper blows off their head Anyhow, the point is, the game is basically just wandering around exploring stuff and occasionally running into other players who will probably, but not always kill you on sight.

Welcome to the War! We need your intel reports.

Really? I killed 4 bandits by myself shopping for groceries. Maybe they weren't "bandits". Just a-holes looking for a fight.
  6. I thought Rocket made a big deal about having radios and channels? He even demoed them in a few videos. I like the OPs idea. There could be fixed radio transceivers at places like Green Mountain, ATC towers and fire stations that could broadcast to each other and handhelds, sort of like different global chat channels. Or maybe leave looped recordings for other people. Not sure how you "control" a gas station or hospital, other than having a couple of armed guys there. Radar doesn't make any sense. What sort of radar could tell you were people are in a place like Chernarus? Too hilly and filled with ground clutter.
  7. What business do you have in Balota other than trying to find a military rifle?
  8. Chernarus is roughly 5x the area of the GTA 5 map and it's mostly empty wilderness. I don't think it's too small. Personally, I think vehicles of all types should be pretty common. Like if you go to any decent size town in Chernarus, you should be able to find a vehicle of some sort, even if it needs some fixing up. I don't think it's particularly fun to spend hours and hours piecing together a car, only to hide it forever for fear of a single bullet, rock or twig taking it out. It's like the same with loot. Loot should be common. After all, the people didn't take it all with them when they became zombies. But it should be proportional to how crappy it is. Every player shouldn't look like Spetsnaz commandos or like they just raided a North Face store to go climb Everest. Not unless they've survived for a long time. You should be encountering players wearing an old tuxedo jacket, mismatched cammo pants, some old sneakers and a fisherman's sweater. And the stuff should wear out over time so they have to constantly be replaced (which I think is the idea). IOW, players should look like a bunch of desperate hobos that just raided a Salvation Army dumpster. Cars should be common, but maybe you constantly need to replace parts. Spark plugs, distributors, tires, fuel, pistons, whatever. And make it so you just can't carry around an engine block or a quarter panel in your backpack. IOW, my theory is the game is made interesting not by having to scavenge the entire map to find a single can of beans or hoarding tons of supplies that never go bad. It's that you have to constantly scavenge to replace everything as it wears out.

    Need assistance

For a total newbie, I would recommend avoiding the big cities on the coast altogether. Although they can be fun and exciting to explore, they are exceedingly dangerous. Head inland, following roads or powerlines. Loot every house on the way. If you find a water pump, drink until you are told you are "full". Your priority should be to find a pack to hold stuff and an ax for chopping zombies. Avoid other players. I'm not sure if there is an advantage to storing food in your pack rather than your belly. You can overeat though and make yourself sick. Use your mike to communicate with players. Other than that, just wander around and explore and try not to get killed. My personal tips as soon as you start: Put the battery in the flashlight to save space. Take off your shirt and tear it into rags for bandaging. Hot key them.

    Invisible zombies

I haven't encountered invisible zombies. But I have been hearing phantom zombie sounds, soda fizzing and whatnot.

So... can you be that good?

Is it possible you were killed by someone else outside of your field of view while you were focused on the "ghillie"?

    Rolling Update Rev. 0.30.113925

Great that the player bodies won't dematerialize anymore. And timely, as I just got into a gunfight with some guy in Krasnostav. Really felt satisfying going through all his junk.

    Humanity Idea

Even worse, some players would appear as "heros" because they would give blood to or otherwise help their bandit buddies. IRL you can't tell if someone is a murderous psychopath by looking at them. I do like the "trophy" idea. Like if I wanted to play all psycho, I could use a knife or ax to collect ears or noses on a necklace or wear a human skin mask or whatever. But it would be a choice I make as a player and it's likely to make other players shoot me on sight as a dangerous lunatic (and rightfully so)
  15. Well.....lets hope the next update includes loot spawns for Prozac. First of all, it's Christmas/New Years. Nobody works this time of year. Secondly, you're an example of the sort of spoiled, entitled, bipolar jerks who will probably ruin this game. Rather than offer constructive criticism as to how to make the game better, people like you shit all over the dev team because they released a $20 alpha build of a game that isn't 10,000 square miles of dynamically generated, fully destructible, Crytek engine driven world with a million AI zombies with ragdoll physics that can be blown into bloody particle driven chunks, while realistically modelling every firearm, clothing, and piece of camping, medical and survival gear used within the past 30 years. The big difference between DayZ and WarZ is that the developers have been actively involved with the player community for the past year+. The only thing I ever knew about WarZ was that there was going to be a game similar to DayZ, then I found out it sucked donkey dick.
  16. OP, you do realize that those players are on average about 2 clicks or about a mile apart? And that doesn't even account for people clustering around the coast and NWAF. Plus with all the enterable buildings, you can probably hide a dozen people in Cherno or Electro and they'd never see each other if they were stealthy. I think the game can stand a few more players. Most of the servers never cap out anyway, so people can always choose less populated servers if they want to go all I Am Legend.
  17. Yes, I know I probably LOOK like a psychopath in my mis-matched cammo, black motorcycle helmet, Payday Wolf mask and sunglasses. My M4A1 with 120 rounds in various magazines, pistol and zombie ax might make me appear dangerous. But I'm actually a very friendly guy. I rarely shoot people unprovoked and will even help them if I can. I even moved all the way up to that new port at the inlet north east of Olsha, thinking that I would avoid the social ills of Cherno and Electro (and now Balota). But no, some jackass takes a pot shot at me! I kept hearing phantom noises like zombies and groaning injured people, so I thought I imagined it. (And by "imagined", I mean "alpha sound bugs"). But as luck had it, as I was leaving the town by way of the rail yard, I look back and see a shadowy figure lurking in the tunnel under the apartments. I couldn't be certain if it was a zombie or a player, but if it was a player, it was probably one who just shot at me. I line up my M4 and take the shot. High and to the left. Shit. And now there are two of them! I won't bore you with the details. But with my superior concealed position and these dumbasses trying to "flank" me by running through my kill zone, it's only a few minutes until I send their bodies off to rejoin The Force like Yoda in Return of the Jedi. So the moral is, even in the isolated towns way up north, there's plenty of danger.

    Apparently no place is safe!

I think camps will be harder to find up north. One thing I noticed is that it is a lot rockier now. So there will be a lot more places to hide camps. It looks like they are laying the groundwork for more cities up there too. I don't want to necessarily avoid people altogether. But lets face it, a lot of them are dangerous jerks! Better to get away from the PvP zone on the coast.

game needs a patch with something to do

I'm going to go ahead and call bullshit on your IQ based on the simple fact that an IQ of 179 would put you in a crowd surpassing the Albert Einsteins, Stephen Hawkings and Bill Gates of the world. So, in other words,if you don't like the game, go freakin write a better one Steve Jobs.
  20. bfisher

vehicles you want in the game

I don't think the world's largest dump truck, the Belarus made BelAZ 75710 would be inappropriate. It would also be cool if you could get the locomotives working.
  21. Here's my idea, which I probably stole or modified from other people. When you disconnect from a server (whether you log off, get dropped, hit by lightning, whatever), your character just sits down as if you were still playing for say, 30 seconds. You also can't log in to another server for that time. So that's 30 seconds of your character helpless against zombies, bandits, beat downs and anything else that might be thrown your way. Been said before. Nothing new here. But lets say that within, oh, 60 minutes (or whatever makes sense), the next time you log off or disconnect, now the time doubles to 1 minute. Then 2 minutes. Then 4, 6, 8, so on and so forth indefinitely. And it doesn't go back down to 30 seconds until you've played for 60 minutes straight (60 minute clock resets to zero after you log in). Advantages: It's forgiving of losing electrical power, having to log off because your mom or wife or life partner is nagging you to come to dinner or just wanting to change servers for whatever reason. Makes serving hopping and combat logging progressively more inconvenient. That is, unless you feel comfortable with your character sitting helpless in a NWAF barracks for 20 minutes. Disadvantages: Doesn't stop it completely. Need a bit more server info so as not to have to pick one you like by trail an error. Thoughts?
  22. I like third person in DayZ for the same reason I like it in Grand Theft Auto and don't like it in Battlefield: 1) I like to see my character 2) My field of view in first person feels really restricted. 3) I'm a pussy. I'll freely admit it. I am not hardcore enough to not use the telescope effect to peek over and around walls. Although in all fairness, I feel like IRL I can peek over a wall without standing up and totally exposing myself (to sniper fire...I don't mean exposing myself by taking my pants off...although I guess DayZ allows you to do that too).
  23. bfisher

vehicles you want in the game

I respectfully disagree. I don't want a parking lot, but I like the idea of vehicles being relatively common, but requiring constant refueling and maintenance. If cars are too rare, they will never be used. People would just hoard them in the deep areas of the map. Any of the cars on this web site will do IMHO: http://crazyguides.com/cars/ For variety, some import cars by Audi, Peugeot, BMW, Volkswagen, and Mercedes-Benz wouldn't be inappropriate in a post-Soviet state. Particularly in the cities.
  24. bfisher

Bullet proof vests and Night Vision goggles.

Seriously. I just came back from a business trip to Poland. It's not Uzbekistan, but it was a Soviet-era country and the countryside and rural towns looks strikingly similar to Chernarus. There was a "spy shop" under our apartment that sold civilian NVGs, GPS devices (which incidentally are as common as cell phones) and similar stuff. I don't know why people insist that we should be fighting zombies with rocks and sticks and driving Ural trucks and Polski Fiat or Trabant cars. Chernarus should have an interesting mix. Civilian, military and police weapons and gear (with civilian stuff being more common, but lower grade for obvious reasons). When Rocket adds vehicles, he should add all those crappy Soviet cars and trucks, but also the same little BMWs, Mercedes and other modern cars and trucks that are common in most European cities. And throw in some Western stuff too for variety.

Kill on sight... my group is doing it now

The "deal" is that there is no point in a survival game where you can just up and quit whenever your survival is threatened. The game needs spawn camping a-holes. I mean that's part of the game. Think of them as rival warlord clans or military trying to contain the infection or desperate survivors or just dumbass psychopaths out to kill people for no reason. To survive you need to hind and avoid them. But this combat logging stuff is crap. All you need to do is run to Balota, cycle through some empty servers and now you've got an M4 with a pack full of ammo and full military gear. Balota always had an old AK or M16 in the mod. But it also had a shitload of zombies. Once the logoff timer and more zombies are implemented, I'm sure the problem will be reduced significantly.
