What exactly makes Standalone so taxing on your system?
PongoZ replied to anderswhk's topic in General Discussion
What open world game with such big environments are we comparing it to? -
Sounds like you figured it out. IF the clothes you ended up in are dry you will not freeze, it still may tell you your cooling off, but you wont freeze, I doubt you even would get cold.

attract more ladies to the game...

When are we going to get gold spray paint cans?

Honestly, I gave your post more consideration that it deserved. -
Can we stop this instant-ruined-everything stuff?

I assume its place holders for the final inventory damage system. What hurts a jacket should not hurt a metal rifle magazine. -

"Why allow people do something they wouldn't do IRL in a game that strives for realism?" The game is not striving for realism, its not a survival simulation, its a game. But either way, who are you to declare "what someone would do IRL" In real life people mutilate them selves to try to stand out, you think IRL no one would paint their gun gold? Honestly it was a joke from the start, but your take on what the game is or is not is kind of strange. -
I have started fires in the open work areas that have a metal roof, and it warmed me up quite quickly. I have also not ever hurt a firemans axe cutting wood, but it chews up chopping axes almost immediately. I do not like how any rain at all and your drenched almost immediately. Jackets do work, the world worked before gortex. No reason to make it silly, But I presume these things are just place holders for final version.

People are hilarious, A lady forgot her AR in the back seat of a rental car. That is the rifle, right there, found by the next renter. Would you have it disappear in your "real zombie apackolips"? that is the colour she got it painted. Scope and all. So in the real zombie apackolips, do all the other spray cans disappear? Hint to the hard core, no one in the real zombie apackolips is spray painting their rifles with random cans of stuff they find in barns. Really. Likely not even their axes as your hand will not slide on that axe handle once its has been randomly painted. -

you said "real life zombie apocalypse" lol -
DB. when people say were they are, I can never remember the names even of the major towns so I have to find it, then I put the map away and walk there. Like all the other tough guys here who dont use maps, I have the map memorized from many 100s of hours walking on it.

in that back mount picture it looks way shorter then that, but either way, I understand why they made it useless against zombies, its a big knife.
-
Doesn't take long for people to type what they really want, its not about survival at all, so why start the thread with a lie trying to justify it that way. They should leave stuff like this for mods to make so the sick can titillate them selves without impacting the balanced.
-
the scale shows why the thing is useless for killing zombies now. its 8 inches long instead of 2 feet long.

Yes I do think they would do much of the project differently now that Rocket has some valid experience in how to do it. Tailoring his communications to fan boys who cannot look at anything delivered with a critical eye instead of tailoring them to reasoned objective people that read what he says and presume he means it was a big mistake. But as to taking the money up front to muddle through the game, no I do not think they would change it, they had no choice. No one was offering them the 60 million its apparently going to take to replace the freely developed mod for some reason. So they did what they had to do. They "micro" financed it, and with the progress in the last month its coming along.

Things that make me wonder about the whole DayZ deal and idea/direction of the game in general.

ships look weathered, and cars do to if they started old and then you burn them a bit, like that one seems to be. no idea how the tire survive a burn but... -
Etiquette around people sitting by a fire?
PongoZ replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
Not seen in the wild but I am very paranoid when I have to do it. BTW, does the fire work to warm and dry you when its not set up under cover? I always do it in the open garages or under huge trees. But is that necessary? -
hadnt seen kitchen knives or can openers or magazines for lots of things at all. But am seeing them in the last day or so.

hmm, may be something in this. It is far easier to disengage as well, I bumped into someone in the sw baracks at nw airfield and as soon as I saw him I just raised my cz rifle and took a quick shot missed by at least 30 ft and he said something conciliatory on open as he disengaged, I disengaged, and I told him on direct what I had looted and what was still available as I left. But we had just bumped into each other, 2 of the 3 guys on the server... But it was easy to disengage but hard to tell if you were being followed. I just stumbled into a 1st person server a few days ago and ended up growing a character in one and quite like it. After a few hours you look at the ground way more imersively then you do in 3rd.

My take is that this is at most weeks after the event, so many of the structures feel like someone left in a hurry. Where some place was allready run down, it would be more run down, but where the infastructure was in place it would not have collapsed so quickly. If we want the game to have gear wear out in the time frame of a game session instead of the weeks it actually takes of intensive use, then there must be a great deal of pristine gear available. You jump off a 3 foot ledge and it seems to take your boots from pristine to worn or broken. Jump off a 6 foot ledge and it ruins your boots and pants and breaks your leg. Its purely a design decision how fast the attrition of gear happens and therefor how much pristine gear is available to replace it in every restart. Anyway, the event was not a war,or a catastrophe, it was an outbrake apparently and the damage to the environment should reflect a few weeks of anarchy, not years of decay. -
axe and shock stick melee is working well enough, anything else seems pretty scetchy. Machetes seem to not work

How to fix KoS and banditry with this great system
PongoZ replied to phoboss's topic in General Discussion
no game without bandits, my issue is not with KOS, its with the thought of capture. -
found one in a garage last night, couldnt get into the trunk to get the boots out of the back, it was in the town east of devils castle
-
if your breath is frosting the air, you will get cold if you sit stil(especially if damp) even with medium weather gear. 7 years in the infantry.
-
I do not think there is anything lazy in aiming for a game that relies on the interplay of motivations and capabilities of the players for a conflict instead of a script. It is very challenging, especially at this map scale.

Does anyone else want to be captured/tortured?
PongoZ replied to UltimateGentleman's topic in General Discussion
Doesn't interest me in the least, as soon as hand cuffs are on they better enable the respawn button.
