Not sure all this mucking is any value, like I said, it is both an amazing long dev cycle, and just as amazingly, not given up on it and delivering in a major way right now.

" “DayZ” is an open-world survival game that’s currently in the early-access alpha phase on Steam." Imagine if the presser said " “DayZ” is an open-world survival game that’s been in the early-access alpha phase on Steam for five years."

lol spelling nazis, all that was missing to really make this board perfect. Yes, its been a long time. Way longer then any reasonable person would accept. But no reasonable people are left on these forums . But I enjoy it, and if you play on the current stress test client and are not amazed at what they are getting done NOW. Then you are kind of jaded.

0.63 Experimental Release Check list
PongoZ replied to Baty Alquawen's topic in News & Announcements
how about change the title so that the "0.63 Experimental Release" isn't all we see at the top of the page every time. -
For those complaining about the development time of DayZ
PongoZ replied to Guy Smiley's topic in General Discussion
Did they go 5 months and only change the tone of a gilly suit? -
Its what I call the little green quonset huts with 3 bunks in them.

Had a nice walk around today. My graphics settings had been nerfed at some point so view range was terrible, but fixed that today. Some stutters on turning the character in 3rd person. Not sure if it was worse then I had seen but seemed so. Went into a few buildings that had hickups in the past like the officers barracks and the red house with the car port and they were both fine. So that was cleaned up at some point.

seeing minor loot explosions, small houses with 4 hand guns and 2 shot guns, small houses with 8 jackets.
-
had some fun last few days back from holidays. Lots of rain and took me a while to find a jacket but had fun and like the new environment changes.

You will rarely see a cricket you hear, or an owl you hear, often even birds you hear IRL in a real forest. I think the ambient animal sounds are great. But I have not run long enough to know if they are always on. Hearing owls all night every night is kind if lame. Love the new graphics and wind. I am runnign a 1080gtx and see no difference between previos version and this one in performance. Just really great looking trees and lighting. Are buildings darker now when its bright out and they are shadowed inside. Certainly the one door barn is. Nice look.

Status of 0.62 on Experimental Branch
PongoZ replied to Baty Alquawen's topic in PC Experimental Updates
Why do only people with few posts seem to flame the devs positions. Because generations of others have just given up and left this forum to the fan bois. You can be certain, the devs have combined rabid over promising early on with intense under delivering later on to be a very frustrating development process to try to support. Myself, I just take the game as it is on a given day and enjoy it. As kind of silly as the official story from the devs is, the game is very fun for me in this state. Been a while since a big change now but I got my 30 bucks out of this puppy many times over. But I cant log into dev right now. So grrrrrrr. Bad devs. -
Been playing a bit on the 3rd person server cause I cannot find the first person one. Got into some fog weather up on the NE highway area that was amazing, 50 foot visibility and very real looking.
-
Done a couple of fresh starts and the loot seems fine. Pretty empty servers though so maybe that would effect it. Wolves seem to be nearly invulnerable to 9mm..
-
that likely indicates these will not. I guess that is the one advantage of playing on 3rd person...I am looking for a car anyway.

I want to test if the glow strips on my fire fighter jacket light up in head lights...

Hard to understand how someone can say little has changed in exp in the last few months with a straight face. It is weird that the health healing bug seems to come and go. Some of the buildings seem to have door problems creeping in. But to say the game has not moved or improved at all in the last 2 months is so silly that it is hard to respond to.

the vehicles are all complete and full of gas, you do not need persistance to test them for driving
-
Fired the mosin bell on prison island to see how many zombies are there...about 20..
-
the eastern silencer seems to works great on an AKM, but on the skorpion it makes a very muffled noise that is not like a weapon discharge at all.
-
nope, just south, I had ditched a truck on the power lines south of Stary Sobor then gone there there and the vybor military, then buddy saw me. I finally ditched my FN and found a box of 308 on the other side of the map. How long will it sit there in that anne frank house I wonder... just found a radio, can spark it up.... and the face plate doesnt seem to go on the gorka helmet anymore...tried a few times now in a few builds
-
ya, lol was searching for my hand gun. Great place to test the stalking though, lots of sunlight and lots of zombies there
-
drove vehicles for the first time today. The Zs seem to like to jump on the back of the truck but then they do not impede you getting out, in fact they ignore you as you walk away. Stalking does seem good still. Occasional not able to get the gun out when they charge problems. And on a server with only 3 of us.. Seems that 9mm drops are shut off?

Thanks Warhead! My experimenting with the zombie senses started as a full gear in nw airfield, I stalked into the tents in daylight to get a feel for the sounds of the zombies and their vision and hearing. Then I capped one with a 9mm and watched them roll in from all around. ran just a bit and let them kill me. I think that one shot brought about 10 military zombies. Respawned in SE electro beach, and worked the east side up to the power plant. Not that many zombies but I am not used to cities as much. It was starting to get dark and I was able to use the buildings and crouch to move pretty realistically through the area. I was able to hear the zombies enough to not agro any. The medical complex south of Topeka dam is challenging because of the limited access points. It was getting light by the time I got there and it had a full compliment of Zs. I was able to move though the complex including timing my crossing of the bridge a bit poorly and having to wait for a Z to turn his head to finish crossing. I found an Axe and killed my first Z. I stalked him in morning daylight but did agro him when he turned to me at the last minute. Seemed solid. By the time I made it to Staroye it was full bright daylight. I kept going to evaluate the day light. Certainly more challenging coming in from the Big western Barn. Walking normally in the barn I aggroed a zombie outside the east wall. I like this, you have to walk slow when close and out of eyesight. It was a long process to work from the barn to the church to the clinic and then the police station in bright daylight with many many zombies, But I did it without agro, At the police station there was a persistant zombie at the road gate. She seemed not to be leaving and the longer you watch them the less likely they are to leave so I stalked and killed her. I would say this build has a great balance of being able to avoid zombies if you are patient, but being totally vulnerable to players while you do so. The 1st player server is so empty that I am able to take an hour on a stalk.City is easier to move quickly through because of all the cover. Staroye was very challenging. Found a freaking FN and mag in the little crossroads military tent...Only one round though. This balance of zombie perception seems far better to me. As a 7 year infantry recon scout.

first stab at zombie stalking seemed ok, they still get alert to you at a fairly long range, but at night anyway, they do not agro is you go slow and low. Not many about though it seems.
-
Ill kill myself and start fresh to see how the stalking of infected is doing. Thanks for the update
