You can also run down steep slopes and when the Zeds get there they jump off and fall to their deaths. But hoppers just hop down slowly then stay in position at the bottom so you can shoot them easily.

[DayZMod] The Dayz Statistics thread!
Skint (DayZ) replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
people already know where most people go' date=' otherwise it wouldn't be where most people go... this map would just sum it up. mostlikely it will be the three airfields, stary sobor, devil's castle, berenzino and the coast lines. oh noes, the secrets revealed! [/quote'] You misread Waken's statement, it is "...where people go..." not "where MOST people go". The key point is a heatmap will show the places people go that are not known hotspots, thus giving away player movements and habits that were previously unknown to others players. -
What should I upgrade on my PC to get DayZ working good?
Skint (DayZ) replied to henamshox's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
But remember that CPU is single core and very, very slow, it will be a bottleneck and waste the performance of the graphics card. Upgrading the three at the same time, CPU/RAM/GPU, is the best way to go. -
Not with that graphics card, it is far too low spec. The lowest I've run it is with a GeForce 7900GTX and it was playable on low video settings at 1440x900. The CPU isn't great but it should cope.
-
But my older Dual-Core E5800 3.2GHZ outperforms my newer Core 2 Duo E7200 2.6GHz, so how do you account for that? (I sold the E7300 as I was so disappointed, so much for upgrade!)

Unfortunately all the replies are from people who don't know what they are talking about. The AMD Sempron is an AM3 CPU, 2.7GHz single core which is quit recent. However, it is actually just an Athlon II X2 4400e with a core locked, (but even if you had a motherboard that can unlock cores, it would still struggle as it's not very fast, similar to a Core 2 Duo E6600). What you really need to tell us is the Make and Model of your motherboard, then we will know what CPU's it can take. Regarding RAM, all you need is 3GB, so get an extra 1GB, but what quantity of modules, type and speed, again, depends on your motherboard specs. You have not mentioned any graphics card, is it on the motherboard or have you got a very low spec one? The very least card you need is an Nvidia 8800GT/GTS or ATi HD 3870. -
Just for reference I have a relatively low spec PC by today's standards and happily run on High settings... Intel Dual-Core E5800 3.2GHz 3GB DDR2-800 (3x1GB, not even in Dual-Channel!) Nvidia 8800GT 512MB 160GB HDD Everything else pretty basic. Al items except my cooler we're second hand off ebay for very little cash. Video Settings: Resolutions: 1440x900 Quality Pref: High Texture: Very High Video Memory: Default Anisotropic: Low Antialiasing: Normal Terrain: High Objects: High Shadow: High HDR: Normal Postprocessing: Disabled Vsync: Enabled Just ran a test and average fps is 20. Sounds very low but perfectly playable. Despite what many people say, you really don't need a high end PC to enjoy this mod. Hope this is if some help... EDIT: forgot to say that CPU clock speed is more important than type/number of cores, hence my old CPU, but fast clock speed, cpu copes better than newer, lower clocked cpus.

A new 'status' to encourage cooperation
Skint (DayZ) replied to ScienceCow's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Woah, woah. You actually might be onto something here... could we get some feedback from lonewolf players? I'm not wanting to make things easier or force playstyles, but adding some psychological tension would be awesome. Something related to being around people, that could be medicated if you want to lonewolf. Thoughts? I've been playing for 4 weeks and I'm 100% Lone Wolf avoiding players and hot spots like the plague, but I have noticed when I'm playing I subconsciously feel the need to see other humans, I get the urge to "creep", get the binoculars out and look for signs of life. I don't want actual contact because I don't trust anybody anymore, but I am human and this Mod pulls human emotions out and dumps them on my character. I could easily believe that if my current character survived for a long time it would start acting like a castaway, talking to scarecrows or animals, hallucinating, talking out load, etc. So yes, medication to deal with this is definitely worth considering. -
[DayZMod] The Dayz Statistics thread!
Skint (DayZ) replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
The main point against a heat map is it will show player's frequented locations. This information should not be given away, it should be something a player observes and builds up over time whilst in-game. The whole point of the Mod is to create an atmosphere of unknown quantities, the feeling of being alone and needing to explore and find out how to survive. I agree that there is an abundance of info outside of DayZ and it is up to the individual player to choose to use it or not, but there are no heat maps because that information is only seen by DayZ staff. The reason the heat map is a bad idea is it will specifically show the locations where players are/have been, even though they are spread over many servers and may have moved, it gives an easy tip to people for places to go, either to kill players, or conversely to empty places, it will work both ways. But this should be found out in-game by traveling and scouting. Even only showing death locations could have a similar effect. And, actually, there are places on the map that you can survive for weeks in the same location without seeing anybody, even though it puts you at risk by staying in one spot, it is your choice, but that location should not be made public. Yes, nowhere is totally safe, but some places are safer than others. I know many feel this is not something to bother about, but my gut feeling is that is fundamentally wrong to do it in this type of game scenario. I agree about the Poll though, see what the community thinks.- 572 replies

How low? Dayz as a minimalist graphic experience
Skint (DayZ) replied to Disgraced's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think the high quality graphics makes this MOD work. All the ambient stuff going on like insects, trees and grass swaying, realistic textures, character modelling, it all adds to the immersion effect, I couldn't get into it if the graphics were lower (like GTA:SA as a few have used as a reference), it would just feel like a console game. Even though how the Mod plays is very important, you really need to feel you're actually in the world of Chernarus, and the Arma 2 level of graphics does that very well. -

Why is the life expectancy going up?
Skint (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If it is based just on In-game Time then that is wrong. I could play all day with many characters alive for 30 minutes or so, then re-spawning, but the data would say I'm surviving for a long time because I've been "in-game" for a long time. It should be based on individual character's total survival time, a measure of player's skill keeping one character alive in the DayZ world. -
20 words or less: Spawning without a weapon
Skint (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
YES ...BUT go further, start with 1xBeans, 1xWaterbottle, 2xBandage, 1xPainkillers. ...AND respawns MUST be over whole map, to avoid spawn camping. -
Great news Rocket, thanks for devoting time to some of the most annoying bugs/issues. Looking forward to being challenged by a new breed of Zombies! (EDIT: err...is it "Infected" now, not "Zombie"?)
-
I found one in Zub Castle yesterday, only issue I had was when fitted my kill stats zeroed and my Humanity Face went evil! I swapped back to Civilian, same prob, then back to Ghillie again and it returned to normal. The screen flashed each time I did a change, but I was still in same position in Zub (first floor). I've also found a tent in one of those small black wooden houses in Kamyshovo a couple of dayz ago, so the stuff seems to been spawning OK. The servers were all UK/EU servers.

Top 3 Bugs you want fixed, Top 3 Features you want added
Skint (DayZ) replied to caddrel's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Bugs: 1. Zombies attacking through walls. 2. Stop inventory deleting gear, should just drop it (when you click on left arrow in list). 3. Doorway bug [FRL]Myke mentioned. Features: 1. Non lethal weapons: Tranquilizer Gun; Stun Gun/Tazor; Tear Gas; etc. 2. Harder survival as OP suggests: 10x more zombies with reduction of food/water/ammo. 3. More and randomized zombie movements/actions, they are too predictable to be a threat. -
DayZ has become Deathmatch / Team Deathmatch
Skint (DayZ) replied to underpaidorphan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I play this game with the intention of surviving for as long as possible, not to try and kill as many zombies or players as possible. I avoid Cherno & Elektro and stay in the woods visiting remote places. All bar one contact with players has been friendly (I was shot in the back by a Bandit) and when I've met others I always salute and have always had friendly response and we move on. I have helped players in trouble and have been helped when I've been in trouble. I automatically treat other players with respect as they are in the same situation as me and do not want to kill them for their kit. Zombies are not a problem to me because their behavior has become predictable due to watching them for so long. This game has definitely split into two styles of play: big town kill fests for the trigger happy and roaming lone wolf/pack wolf style play. And that is exactly how I would imagine a real life Zombie apocalypse scenario would play out so it's fine with me. So it's not just a DM/TDM game. -
Supermarkets, apartments blocks, military areas, anywhere where a lot of people would have lived. Please not in Hospitals, they are not a regulated emergancy item like drugs, (you can buy them on Amazon and in outdoor stores).

I tried several UK and EU servers but all have the same issue. This only affects the servers that actually say in the title that they have updated to "HIVE 0.9.1." Example server: EpicNL3 (v1.5.8.4/hive0.9.1). -
