Starving while offline? Bug or feature?
Skint (DayZ) replied to Prof. Awesome's topic in New Player Discussion
It's not a bug, it's part of the game. -
"No more feature additions for 1.7.1 - just bug fixing and balancing"

Rocket: "There are no more feature additions for 1.7.1 - bug fixing and balancing is all that will occur." Best news I've read for dayz. -

Hopefully it's about spawn rates for loot/infected and tweaking infected LOS/pathing/etc. I don't thinks it's about gameplay balancing, just sorting out the core build mechanics. -
Actually, by all you accounts, DayZ has succeeded in it's aim. It's a post apocalyptic survival simulator and it seems to closely mirror what you would expect to happen to people in that situation (there are real world examples of this). People are left to there own devices to play it how they want, there is no objective, reward, goal, meaning to it except that of staying alive. If people choose to be in a clan; go lone-wolf; snipe for fun; hunt players; find best gear; then so be it. Almost everything is permitted because the world has no law, the only restraint is our personal morals and principles. I don't think you can divide it into just two categories as it can actually provide a wide variety of options, such is the nature of a sandbox. And it would certainly be impossible to please all of the people all of the time.

A Leaderboard is not part of essence of the Mod, really, all that a player needs to know is how long they have survived, period.

Help With ArmA Editor And DayZ Skins
Skint (DayZ) replied to Walking4Dayz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The three Survivor skins: Side: BLUFOR Function: PMC Class: Men Unit: Survivor (1st is Man (clothes colour random), 2nd is Woman, 3rd is Invisible Debug) -
Excellent idea. There are many areas of the map that are almost deserted, so a random spawn like this would help to spread players around the map more if they had a reason to venture into the quiet areas.

Post your imaginary patch notes that you'd love to see

[NEW] Giant inflatable bananas [NEW] Bandits wear glow in the dark pink tutus [NEW] Cow abducting alien spacecraft [NEW] Big black plastic comedy guns that unroll a flag that says "BANG" when fired making infected and players roll around in fits of laughter enabling you to make a hasty getaway/loot/kill/whatever [NEW] A great big can of worms (oh, sorry, that's already been done) -
Just wait until tomorrow when all these simpering fanboy children go play and totally fail with melee then come back on here whining that they died and how bad it is. Still, with such lack of clarity regarding use, it's to be expected. Prepare yourselves for yet another shitstorm. PS: Oh dear, somebody just mentioned "chainsaw", I despair...

FPS Issues (Come Post Your Specs)
Skint (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Fps issues for this Mod have nothing to do with you PC specs. I have joined many servers over the course of 2 months running all versions of the Mod/Beta Patch/whatever, and there has always been different rates of fps, my PC stayed the same throughout, I didn't change a single component, and this happens to everybody regardless of hardware, so this thread is totally pointless I'm afraid. 1.7.1: 20-25fps, 1.7.1: 0.2-10fps, 1.7.1.1: 13-16fps, see, nothing to do with my PC at all. -
Hotfix Build 1.7.1.1 Rolling Update
Skint (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I've just been in Berezino (South) on UK20 and the Supermarket and Pub didn't spawn a single food or soda. Supermarket loot was 5 watches, 2 compasses, Alice Pack, Enfield, Matches and trash. Also, Supermarket did not spawn any ammo; water bottle; flares; chemlights; etc, the usual Generic items. The number of loot positions was less than usual, same issue with Pub, half loot positions empty, 2 watches, 1 Compass, Revolver, Camo Skin, and Trash. Hospital spawned usual number of positions but was half Trash. I moved around a lot, but the loot was not cleared after over 30 minutes. Server had plenty of players, 25+ I think and 250-350 infected. -
You are listening to the wrong people Rocket.

The whole patch is a "FUCKING BUG". Too much in one patch again. Should be one patch for fixes' date=' then next for features, then fixes, then features, etc. THAT is proper Project Management. Rocket would get less hassle if he followed this protocol. [/quote'] I'm not sure if you're aware or not, but this is an ALPHA. An Alpha is where features are implemented, beta is where bugs are fixed. Tl;dr, fuck off. No, an Alpha's primary objective is to get a stable framework to facilitate testing of features. -
Seems to be a lot of negative threads/posts....
Skint (DayZ) replied to JackPearce95's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I can't help but think that the Devs would cause themselves far less aggro if they didn't try to change the world in a single patch. I think more frequent patches but with less content, to aid a smooth transition from one patch to the next, would benefit everybody. -
Excellent idea. But sadly this forum doesn't like anything that is sensible, well thought out, organised, useful, simple or meaningful.

German mirror: http://mirror.tritnaha.com/old/ Sweden mirror: http://cdn.armafiles.info/old/ I like to switch between old and new releases in case of initial problems, as is happening now. I have directories in @dayz called Temp 1.7.1 and Temp 1.7.0. I extract the files in these directories and copy them to @dayz\addons as required. Only the "vehicles" files are the same for both releases, so you don't need to change those.

Another Can my computer run it threads.
Skint (DayZ) replied to MrBaldwick's topic in New Player Discussion
You need at least another 1GB of RAM. Bear in mind that Arma 2 Free has lower graphics quality than normal Arma 2, so although A2Free runs OK on that PC, A2:CO and DayZ won't be so good, you'd have to drop the video settings to minimum. RAM is pretty cheap though, so if you can afford it, get another 2GB. The CPU is not brilliant, you could look for a faster one on eBay, they go up to 3.2GHz (6400+). Is the HD 3800 a 3850 or 3870? -
Being offline for a long time?

Anyone know if Temperature decreases if offline for a long time? eg. I log out in the woods and not in a building. Does weather affect character whilst offline? -
[DayZMod] The Dayz Statistics thread!
Skint (DayZ) replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
There is every reason to go to places in the middle of nowhere: lighting fires so as not to been seen; hunting animals; logging out; pitching tents; hiding vehicles; etc. Nearly all my in-game time is spent as far away as possible from buildings/hotspots and there are many other players who do this. A heatmap is a cumulative map showing data over several days, it's a trend map, not a single moment snapshot, so it will show all the places that players go. -
Gamma and brightness
Skint (DayZ) replied to kstone588 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
1. The recent changes to the lighting of the game (Tone Mapping) was introduced in Beta Patch 93666 as a request from the Arma 2 gaming community to better simulate the way the eye naturally reacts to light and dark. However some have noted that it has gone too far so it may get tweaked. 2. The Gamma and Brightness "FIX" in Beta Patch 93825 specifically targets the ability to adjust Gamma and Brightness in the User Profile file to a level above the maximum limit in-game, ie, in-game Gamma maximum is 2, but in your profile you could set it at 3 or whatever. 3. The recent change to nightime darkness has also been affected by the lack moonlight. So all these added up has made the night currently almost pitch black. The Arma 2 engine is designed to reflect real world conditions and works in real time. However in a few days the moon will be back out again and you can play at night again (unless it's cloudy!). I guess we are not used to playing games with complex environments like this, but I suspect we will adapt accordingly.
