    People play this mod anyway they want, there is no "right" or "wrong" way. Just because you play it the way you do, doesn't mean everybody else has to and is an idiot if they don't.
  2. Most of the problems lie with the Arma engine, no matter what the mod is. Stupid things like: dieing when riding a motorbike slowly into a small bush by accident because the vehicle physics/handling are so bad; loosing gear out of inventory/bag because the inventory systems is poor; terrible graphic/lighting glitches (this just gets worse every release, OFP was better!); poor character action animations; there are so many more. I've been playing Zedland and it suffers like DayZ. So I think DayZ on Arma 2 will always be problematic, so really it should be dropped. It was a great experiment and it has proved a marketable concept but it has outgrown the engine. I don't think a standalone A2 game should be released though. All effort should now be put into the Arma 3 version so BiS can make A3 work for DayZ by coding in stuff Rocket needs to make the mod into a decent game.

    Best way to safely log out?

    I used to have the same problem when I logged out. I worked out it was because I didn't wait for the Hive update communication (as Detta mentioned). Since the "not saved" time thingy was removed from the Debug Monitor I had forgot all about it. So now you need to do this: Press "P" and click on your name, look at the numbers on right "Ping" and Bandwidth". When they change you are good to go. I always wait for them to change at least twice just in case. Never had a problem since. Hope this helps.

    Server Naming

    Any chance of the Server Naming Convention being finalised by the Devteam anytime soon? The server list in game is in a terrible mess.

    Yes, but they would have to fix the bug/feature where your temperature drops 1 degree every 2 minutes whilst in a boat, because these would be very slow in use.

    Just want to clarify, my previous post was not intended to condone the use of hacked in weapons, but to inform the OP of the technical facts. I totally agree with the other posters about the morality of using hacked weapons and, as always in DayZ, each player is left to decide how they wish to proceed in such circumstances.
  7. Yes, DayZ seems to be on a treadmill at the moment, but what you don't see is the stuff that is going on "under the hood". There are many aspects of the survival game already in the code but not yet activated: story, objectives, missions, etc. I guess these will come in when it goes Beta. Until then we have to make our own entertainment with what we have. At the moment "being entertained" is not the primary objective, but adding functions, ideas and testing is.

    Small Boat question

    Actually, top speed is 6.8MPH (11KPH) and you lose 1 degree of temerature every 2 minutes whilst in one, so yeah, avoid them. PBX is only decent boat.

Weapons nerf was applied specifically for Arma 2, here's what Marek Spanel, CEO of BiS has said about the changes and the lack of notification: "Because it is all conspiracy (refering to lack of notification). Or maybe we just forgot to list it? On the other hand, the changes have purpose and reasons but here is full description of changes made: 1) Grad and MLRS ammo were not able to knock out vehicles 2) Makarov, 545x39, .45, .303, Slug745 and Sa-61 ammo were more powerfull than they should be" http://forums.bistud...l=1#post2196356 The main reason for weapons nerf seems to be the fact that military units in Arma 2 wear some sort of body armor as standard and the changes were implemented to take this into account, therefore in Arma this all makes some kind of sense. However, in DayZ, no character, (players or Zeds) has armor, so the effects are severe. I would like to think that Rocket either is planning to add armor for players or tweak the damage ratings. Or, of course, do nothing and let us adapt to the changes.

    PDT is GMT/UTC -7, so won't be ready until 10am GMT/UTC It's not DayZ related, just GameSpy maintenance, as other posts have stated.

    Oh dear, you really missed my point on this one. "The establishment" is the politicians/news media/knee jerk reactionist types who will jump on any bandwagon for headlines. These are the ones who scream and shout when video games have strong content becasue they think only "Kids" play video games because they are narrowminded idiots who don't do research or care about facts. These are the people who would cause Rocket grief if he implemented anything to do with suicide in DayZ just because DayZ is a hot topic right know and he is right to be wary. I am 40 and also have been playing video games since Pong and I personally do not hold the view that video games are "just for kids", quite the opposite. I also don't beleive films, tv, books, etc influence murder/suicide. I''m sorry you did not understand my position or that I did not make it clearer.

    Avoid anything to do with suicide, either in name or in-game mechanics, you are just asking for trouble. In films, TV, books, it's fine, but the establishment still see computer games as "just for kids" and will do anything to stop adult/contencious content. There are so many ways to die in DayZ without the need of Respawn/Suicide option, eg: zombies; other players; jump off high buildings/towers; go prone near a rock/tree/tent, so it's not really a big issue.

As there are many servers that have changed their name/number or gone completely or new ones that have started, can we have an official Pinned thread where admins can post details of changes/new/deleted etc? It will help users find info on servers easily intead of posting a new topic for every request. Suggest each topic start with the server name then subject to keep it easy and clear, eg: EU 3 - Name Change, Now DE 123 UK 4 - Closed US 123 - New Server

    BattleEye initialization failed?

    If you have downloaded the Client and Server files from here... http://www.battleye.com/download.html you need to copy both the files in to each of the following folders: \Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\BattlEye \Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\Expansion\BattlEye Both folders need both files. Make sure you make a backup copy of the existing files first so you can revert if needed. I had same issue today and this fixed it

No need for "UTC" as should be obvious by now. No word "beta" as it's obvious. You don't even need the "d" in "3dp". The changes I have made to the bracket type and use is important for readabilty, you should avoid (brackets) [followed] {by} [brackets] (followed) [by] {brackets}. Keep it short, simple and easy to read.
  23. Most of peoples issues actually are with Launcher/Updater errors. Most of the reports are from that very camp. Hardly anybody who manually installs/updates reports errors. I understand the need for installers for the less techie, but the installers need a function to revert to a stable build if the new one is bugged, as has happened the last 3 updates. Maybe you can modify 6Launcher to do this? I totally agree about progress with updates, but when they don't work we can't test them to help progress. If the lastest build makes it impossible to start the mod, how can I test it? So, by using a previous stable build until the new one is fixed at least I can still do something useful by finding issues, it's not a retrograde step, and you can get better from it. I hope lessons have been learnt about the update procedure for future updates to avoid the problems that always arise due to lack of testing. It amazes me that yet again the same debacle occurs at update time, I would have expected that you would be more prepared for the general release. There are many good suggestions from the community on how to do this. Most popular is limited release on, say, 10-20 servers with a wide selection of users (guinea pigs?), approx 1000, to test the new update before general release. Prevent ALL servers/launchers/players updating straight off as this is where your problems stem from. Surely this will benifit everybody longterm?

    Pitching a tent...

    Problems with Tents: 1. Very unreliable. Items disappear then reappear or whole tent disappears for days then reappears, all due to server issues. 2. Very easy to spot. When viewed at a distance every tent is visible no matter where you place it, due to Arma removing surface textures (grass/shrubs) at long distance view. Even those under pine trees can be looted (ahem). 3. Potential trap. See a tent? Is it a trap set by a Bandit? Aslo, if it's your own tent you could be being watched... For me, at the moment, they are not worth the risk, certainly not until the contents are only accessible by the placer.
