Well that's about the way I play. ;)

You mean an apocalypse where people's only objective is to find a bigger gun than their neighbours' ? That's what has always bothered me with DayZ: you have nothing to survive for. nothing to lose. Sure your stuff is taken, but you'll be back on the beach in no time. In real life you have to protect your loved ones. And you have to STAY ALIVE to do so.

Rewarding players for actually staying alive and surviving.

Isn't it a SURVIVAL game ? prime objective is NOT to KILL OTHERS but to STAY ALIVE. -
Unarmed / Low Tier Melee Players not Listening to Armed Guys
Fabik replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in New Player Discussion
DayZ's problem is that it's all about guns... End game is when you have a good automatic weapon or a sniper rifle. Then what ? You use it. When all you have is a hammer, all you see is nails. :/ -
The 1st person FOV is NOT realistic! Not being able to move your eyes without turning your head is NOT realistic. When I use it, I feel like a horse with blinders. The human field of vision is about 160-180° laterally and 60-80° vertically. How many displays to you need to simulate that ? 6 ? In fact I find TPV more realistic when it comes to your immediate surroundings. Of course there is the problem of getting a point of view from outside your body, but one can't say that 1st person is more realistic than TPV.

I mean, every spawn is new. He's not supposed to know where his 'elder' had hidden their stash. This would help a lot to reduce the number of high end weapons in play. It would also raise the 'price of life'. People, even inside clans, would think twice before starting a firefight, knowing that their camp might disappear if they die. Every tent that was pitched by the victim should disappear right away. note: hackers/dupers are another problem. No need to bring them in the discussion.

True! Also, I have killed only two guys: One with an axe, the other one with a Winchester. Been murdered twice: first time I don't know what hit me (some automatic weapon), second time with a 2-barrelled shotgun point blank in a barn.

Bandit characters live longer ? I'm not sure about that. My gut feeling is that you live longer if you avoid firefights. Sure it will take longer to get good stuff but, as I said earlier, scavenging is fun. :) -

Killing people to take their loot is a winning move ONLY if you consider that the gear determines whether you win or lose. Not everybody thinks that way. To many, the pleasure doesn't come from having the best gear as fast as possible. It comes from the scavenging and the work needed to reach the goals we set ourselves. And it has nothing to do with game mechanics. The game itself doesn't tell you that you've won anything when you kill someone or when you loot an AS50. The feeling of success is IN YOUR HEAD. As buddhism says 'The Way is the Goal'. The Way that leads to the gear is more important than the gear itself... -
Never killed another survivor. I'm one of the "good guys"
Fabik replied to RadienFire's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
In 3 weeks of play, I have killed two guys, both near or inside the Cherno supermarket. The first one I axed because I was surprised up close and he had a firearm. The second one was worse. I shot him (Winchester) from behind as he was still, approaching the supermarket . Still feel bad about it... Call it killing out of boredom. I have also been killed twice. Both times without warning and without a chance to make friendly or fire back. -
Let me paint you a picture of DayZ game mechanics.
Fabik replied to SillySil's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
DayZ is a survival game, yet it lacks a timer that would measure the lifespan of players. From my understanding, the aim should be to last longer every time you play, but there is no ingame measurement of a player's longevity. All we have is the number of kills (Zeds/Bandits/Murders). No wonder people tend to think a game where you need to kill to win. Most guys probably think the one with the most kills is the best player... <_< -

The problem with DayZ is that military stuff takes so much place. I mean, why so many different weapons ? Is the game NRA sponsored ? I really wish there were less weapons. Give me a hatchet, a Makarov and a Winchester and that's OK with me. Reminds me of Maslow's Law: "I suppose it is tempting, if the only tool you have is a hammer, to treat everything as if it were a nail." When all you have is a gun, everybody's a target. -
Stop saying "friendly" and immediately trusting me
Fabik replied to Obsolescence's topic in New Player Discussion
Playing the reckless, backstabbing SOB is Easy Mode. Playing friendly, trying to get to help others is Hard Mode. Some people prefer winning on Easy. They'll never push up the enveloppe and try for harder things. "Triumph without peril brings no glory." -
Minutes ago I got injured crawling over broken glass... My humanity fell from 3350 to 150. I'm inhuman because I hurt myself ? Sadomasochism anyone ? :D

The Ghillie suit IS a bandit skin that players can pick up... or not. I never pick up a Ghillie. Survivors have no use for it in this game. Its only use is to set up ambushes. Only bandits set up ambushes.
