Yes, it is a slight advantage. You can know exactly how much meat to eat, how many more bullets you can take, and whether that guy you just shot is actually dead (although kind of offset by the stupid death messages). Regardless, it breaks immersion and should stay out of the game.

I do what I think is necessary to ensure my safety, whether the threat is perceived or real. If the shot is just going to announce my position, I won't take it. If I may have anything to gain from a kill, even a box of matches or compass, I will take the shot.

I think it's a pretty unanimous agreement that DayZ needs both these things. Rocket has agreed that the temperature mechanic is severely underutilized, so I think we can expect it in the standalone. I'm sure food will become much more scarce, too.

They're probably going to be battery operated in the standalone, if they exist at all.

When I'm starting off I loot the brown houses, but skip doghouses and sheds. If I'm looking for something specific like a ghillie suit, I usually stick to the higher value spawns unless it's a rarely visited town because I want to make the run quick and safe as possible.

BI has always catered to niches; I think it's pretty safe to say that it won't be swayed by the prospect of a bigger audience.

Just now some guy with an ER7 wiped the Vorkuta landmass clean with one. When I thought I was safe I stopped to warn people in chat and got shot mid sentence. People were literally dying in 10 second intervals. My poor, poor matches.
