how many FPS should I get on DayZ with this laptop
Bearded McGee replied to purinacatfood's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Smokey the Bear frowns on your implications. --- Also, it will run the game rather smoothly. But, I see that your CPU is sorta underpowered compared to the GPU. Thus, I recommend that you DO NOT run the game on low or very low settings. Arma 2 will use the CPU more than the GPU when in those settings. The GPU itself is powerful enough. I have a similarly powerful AMD card too and I can run the game without stutters and well within the 35-45 FPS range with almost everything to the max. View distance will be the most hard on you, most DayZ servers have those locked from going further than a certain point but expect "fog" to be ever present past a point if you play the base games. -
Massive armory in Barrack
Bearded McGee replied to landwarrior tactical's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
To people arguing that it's the result of crappy players, I tell you that it's the result of crappy design. Nothing more, nothing less. Now, if loot piles only had a chance to respawn at server resets or if the timer was in the neighbourhood of 3-4 hours... The mod isnt getting any more dev cycles put into, and that very well might be for the best (we all want that those to be put into the standalone), basic balance is lacking. It has received no major overhaul in a long time and it shows. Two months ago, I might have argued that it went against the spirit of the game, but it,s too late now. Meta is the only way to have fun now and the base game (mod) itself isnt worth a moist fart. it's broken not only from the playerside but the game itself isnt up to it. -
DayZ Bliss 100 Vehicles Fully Repaired! (v1.7.2.6 build 96584) Hosted by Greyfox

Offhandedly asking for scripted in gear. A ban might have been a bit harsh, but I would have kicked you at the very least. Enablers and moderates are as bad as the skiddies themselves. How did you know you just weren't the first head to roll? -
New Server going up Tomorrow NEW MAPS inc. Fallujah and Takistan

Tempted... Will be reconsidering later this morning when I get home -
Baseline: It's useless. Even more than a tin-can. The only reason I could even conceive it being used is if it's the first backpack a player finds after losing his previous backpack somehow. Which doesn't happen a whole lot. So, how can we save it? Well, I don't know if I got the actual answer, but here goes. Instead of adding whopping 6 spaces as a backpack, how about adding a few spaces to the general gear spaces? Like, another row to the main gear inventory and adding another column to the second inventory? That way, you get to have 15 primary storage spaces instead of 12 and you get 10 secondary storage spaces instead of 8? So, you get a 5 slot bonus to inventory instead of 6, but those slots are accessible from the main inventory. Which could be useful in many ways. Having more mags available to switch around, having more spaces for pistol ammo, bandages and M203 rounds. So, lower it to 5 spaces (so it looks nice and symmetrical in the inventory menu) from 6 but put those slots in the main inventory menu). --- Alternatively, make it another row too for the pistol ammo/m203 rounds/bandages slots instead of a new column. Thus, 7 slots instead of the current 6 (still less than the Coyote Patrol Backpack) ---

[Standalone] More Server Specific Balance Settings.
Bearded McGee posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I know this would not work well with main hive servers, if the hive server function in similar fashion fashion to DayZ's, but I'm thinking that a way to alter the balance in a server-wide fashion would lead to some interesting situations. For example, I recently had the pleasure of playing for a good amount of time on a private server with some pretty explicit rules which were enforced pretty drastically. basically, no backpack and no ghillie suits. It would be an understatement to say this changed the way things went drastically. Only having 12 slots for food, water, medical supplies and main weapon ammo completely switched the general behaviour of players along with the 8 pistol/bandage slots. This made me realize how much simple switches and changes in balance could affect gameplay. Some people are asking for a pretty big sniper nerf. Some people are asking for more dangerous zombies and more scarce loot. Some people are asking for gimped weapon pools. Heck, my wish list, which I've already stated, would be Far-West ish server settings; Revolver, Winchester, over-under shotguns, break-action shotguns, lever-action shotguns, bolt-action rifles of many calibres. No NVG, no rangefinder, no waypoint, no GPS. I'd make zombies more numerous (by a factor of maybe 4), more aggressive and I'd make loot scarce (maybe have trash spawn at a good 90% rate) and remove loot respawn until server reset. Others might not exactly like this, so they could make up their own rules applicable to their servers. Easily and without trouble. With dupping and scripting fixed, we could once again turn our attention to balance. Rocket's vision is all well and dandy, but giving more freedom might give it much more longevity. more variety. How about being able to change the speed of zombies? From how far they'll ear? How hard they are to lose? EDIT: The point is to leave to server hosts the ability to change balance more. Currently, they have limited power, even in private hives. -

high-end loot should not exist in DayZ
Bearded McGee replied to nic0's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sorta agree. Wouldnt be so bad without dupping and scripting in. How's this. Lower the mil weapon loot percentages a whole lot, make loot respawn not every ten minutes but at random, the median being around an hour. Make ammo EXCRUCIATINGLY hard to find for anything past barn-level weapons. It's not so much a removal of items that we need, we just need better loot tables and a longer respawn time on loot piles. -

But, it could be. And more. -
this game is revolutionary - however, a suggestion (maybe temp fix for arma2 alpha mod as opposed to standalone)
Bearded McGee replied to edg66's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
you lost me at mmofpsrpg... Also, the first idea would PROMOTE KoS for those who are oft weighting their options as to whether or not they should take the shot. I don't like killing because I don't like dying and losing my stuff. Knowing that my bullet is basically a quick transport to the coast would let me just press the trigger. I'm as big a carebear as they come. I only killed without provocation once. I'd be the most trigger-happy fellow in "friendly" servers. -
At this point, you are either lying or were slow witted enough to let someone else play with your toys.

Thinking of becoming a full-time city dweller
Bearded McGee posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
DayZ, as it stands, is dead to me. Sorta. But, I recall that my best moments where the odd times where I was on a near full server and in either Elektro or Cherno. I oft ended up going 1v1 or 1v2 with a makarov and maybe the occasional winchester or Enfield. Heck, I've had a few good runs with a goddamn crowbar! To think these moments where I forgot about food, water and zombies in a game about survivalism and zombies is a strange thing. So yeah, now I'm thinking about doing this full time, at least until something better catch my eye. Maybe catch a shogun on a low pop server and hop right in a high pop server in the residential areas of either of the big cities. Not hiding or anything, just running around, aggroing and meeting other players whom I'll probably shoot down. Not on sight, mind you. I'll make my intentions clear by shooting high once or outright speaking it out. Even thinking about playing a ice-cream truck jingle on loop in direct chat... So, that's my plan. Those are my handicaps. Endgear? Camps? Tents? Got that, had that, went there. So, got to spice things up. Anybody else trying to wring DayZ for the last delicious joy drops? -
Dayz Keeps Freezing my computer
Bearded McGee replied to Shawdey's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Open the case, clear the dust (if you don't know how, the hell are you doing with a PC?) and try to monitor the temp. Are you running DayZ through Steam, through DayZ Commander, through Six or through DayZ Commander through Steam? -

Bearded McGee replied to Bearded McGee's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
And every other player is there for the PVP too, which kills it. Elektro and Cherno are mostly runned through by beaners and the likes, which can make for some interesting meta. EDIT: i've tried lingor. and before someone tell me to try Takistan, I did that too. -
make the blooddrop go empty in addition to changing colors
Bearded McGee replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
And I'd say Rocket is heading the wrong direction on this. You play AS your character. It is your surrogate within the game world. What is inanely known by your character should be given to you, the real life person, as an ultimate value readout. You aren't ridding piggyback on that guy on screen, YOU ARE the guy on screen. You visibility and how-much-noise-you-make readouts can go. They are both inherently tied to information given by the world to you through one of you character senses, directly translated without loss to you via what you see and hear. But hunger and thirst? Rocket, don't be an idiot. Those two are sensed directly by your character. Were you to ask anyone on the street, they could tell you pretty much exactly how hungry or thirsty they are. But, as a player, you can't feel what your character feels so we have to circumvent this visually. To go without a GUI/HUD is, quite frankly, retarded. You can be minimalistic without being barren. -
On a private server and I found a badly damaged black SUV where a bike should spawn. The wiki is untelling and I'd like to know its stats and such. Weapons slots and items slots. It is definitely a legitimate spawn.
-
Yes, that is indeed a SUV...
-
Is there a repertoire of the vehicle spawns for private servers?
-
Didn't know that. So far, I know it's pretty fast and has a built-in GPS. Are the fuel and inventory stats similar to the white pickup or any other vehicle?
-
it's bugging me right now, it sure is gonna bug me even more in the standalone. I'm talking about the vehicle details display in the top left corner. How can a player can magically tell how his car is doing, on a chromatic scale6 A fuel gauge display, for one, is sorta okay. It's the kind of information you can get as a driver in any motorized vehicle. Same goes for speed. But to know how "well" your engine or your fuel tank itself is doing? Not so much. A better header would be the sound of the engine. a damaged engine would make a much worse sound than a tiptop one. At best, have a on/off warning display reading CHECK ENGINE once the engine gets damaged a bit (say, if its condition is under 80%). For the fuel tank, only how fast your are using fuel should be your direct indicator. Again, same for the wheels. You'd either need to listen carefully to the car rolling around or simply to get out and do a manual inspection. Back for the engine or the fuel tank, there you would need to do a manual inspection to see how well they are doing. Requiring a toolbox, it would become a scroll-down option to do an engine check or to see how the fuel tank is doing. Here, even, you wouldn't get an absolute informative report of the well-being of those parts. You'd get a message along the lines of: "The engine looks good, but could need a bit of repair" or "The engine looks damaged, almost beyond repair" - "You see gas leaking out quickly out of the fuel tank" or "Maybe a patch or two and the fuel tank should be okay" Of course, each vehicle would need a custom header and display. About tires, many (if not all) heavy-weight trucks (think Ural/V3S) have systems to tell the driver if all the tires have enough air pressure. In their case, then, having a [WHEEL] display would be acceptable. Only, also, maybe not a chromatic one. A "Low Pressure" indicator would appear instead.
-
You do realize you missed his point, right?
-
I can imagine a server limitation based on PING, lotsa servers currently have a max ping set. Per country? Nay, says I!

Time for a stroll.
