I've been juggling with this idea for a while. maybe you've caught a glimpse of it peeking through some of my replies in other threads. Currently, no matter how many zeds you kill, they just respawn after a few minutes. Say "they" implemented a mechanic for the zed spawn rates? The more zombies are killed within a zone, the lower the spawn rate becomes. To compensate, the global spawn rates over the rest of the server would go up a bit. Of course, there would be a minimum spawn rate so no amount of Zed killing could make a zone totally devoid of zombie spawns. Also, to force players to move out of a safer-zone, loot pile spawns inside it would gradually augment in chances to spawn trash instead of anything useful. Imagine, a small town like Olsha or Krasnostav (due to their proximity to the NEAF) gets occupied by an organized group of players. They clear the streets and take care of the residual zombie spawns. So, the organized group more or less become the enforcers and peacekeepers of the town. They might even have a taxi service (paid for in ammo or medical supplies) for ferrying players to different places. They might set up an actual shop and trading post. Gee, they might even elect a mayor and a sheriff... All of this would simply come down as a result of a spawning rate mechanic (which makes sense). PVE is boring and useless right now. There's just NO reason to engage Zeds, at all. This would bring a purpose to it. If dupping/scripting was not possible/removed and we had a fresh-start, I'd expect this type of communities to arise all over the place, even without a spawning rate ratio modifier. Devil's Castle would probably end up being the prime choice for settling shop and a continuous base in many servers. Ever played Metro 2033? had a nice ammo economy, right? Ever played S.T.A.L.K.E.R. SOC? Place like Rostok (think bar, Arena and Duty camp) could grow up, naturally, through sheer player interaction. Bandits would gain a new purpose too. The actual raiding and banditry of settled outposts. Heck, I'd probably give banditry a try then. People often say that Banditry should be restricted and punished. Banditry should actually be given INCENTIVES. Current bandits are just killers with no real purpose except maybe getting QQ points. Killing for the sake of killing is not cool. Killing you for the sake of that sweet backpack you have is cool. ---- Imagine this scenario: -So, word is the Devil's Castle Trading Camp found a M107 along with a few mags and they are offering it for trade. -I'd love to get that gun, what do they want for it? -Doesn't matter, they don't deal with bandits. -Man, imagine all the killing we could do with that baby! -So, we need a plan. -How about a raid? -Sound good to me. -Tell the boys we are raiding Devil's Castle tonight at 2300h -I'll pass the word This might even lead to some metagame shenanigans. Having spies in the midst of the bandit groups (or bandit spies on the side of the traders). If you've ever played EVE Online or maybe just followed some of the news about it, giving players a structured and sensible world without restrictions makes for awesome meta. A thousand players meeting in rookie ships to take down one titan is the example that comes to mind. The Devs themselves were taken aback in awe. ---- I know anything of the sort is currently impossible. We'd need a hive wipe, a way to restrict all client-side scripts (and to make sure no main-hive servers do any monkey business). We'd also need a better humanity system (so banditry becomes recognized as what it should be and hero skins become something people vies for). Maybe also a way to prevent players from hoping from one server to another and back to get past other players fortifications. Possibly, but it could work without, make changes to the loot system so players can't grind locations or server hop in order to amass high level loot, in good quantity and fast.

Poll: Which gun is best in which situation?
Bearded McGee replied to Science Jelly's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Had a whole lot of luck with the 870 in night Ops. If you have NVGs, it's the best against other players with NVGs. Blinded a few and it saved my ass oft. -

Female DayZ players, lets talk and ask questions.
Bearded McGee replied to KatieKillz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Here's my POV on this. I don't play with women. I don't even play with men. I play with people. They are genderless to me. I hold no associative distinction between players beyond Really Good/Good/Moderate/Normal/Below Average/Bad/Really bad. The only place where this doesnt hold itself true is when I know the player on a more personal level. I do this for a simple reason: I'm neither a misogynist nor a misandrist. it's easier to hold an all encompassing policy than to place distinction between player before I know them well enough to pass better judgement. As for experience so far, I have many gripes with players but only one that exist between me and players of the feminine disposition. It's the inferiority complex some of them hold. Ladies, if someone is being rude to you, please don't respond with a hearty "Is it because I'm a woman?". It very well might be their reason, but you are only reinforcing your role in their eyes by placing yourself where they expect you to be. Also, some might genuinely not like you for reasons other than your sex. As a result, most women I did meet while playing vidya I have come to dislike. They made a duty of themselves to point out their gender for no other reason as to put themselves in light unnecessarily. You want personally, as an individual, more respect from the playerbase? Don't debase yourself, don't sexualize yourself and don't step up on a podium unheeded asking for recognition where none is needed. I ask this not because you are a female but because you are someone I might play with. I ask nothing different from the other gender. -
Standalone and Helicopters.
Bearded McGee replied to ruecanonrails's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Actually, most helicopters have a auto-level and auto-direction cycler. Auto-hover, as shows in Arma 2 (and TOH like you said) is very rare. The reason being that it's an old system that got more people killed than it saved (the system would often fail or make bad adjustments). The newer versions of the system is an auto-correction by feed system. Used in more particular aircraft like the Osprey. The development of the software for this system was actually the breakthrough that allowed the osprey to be born. Without an auto-correction system, it could not take off and land in VTOL mode. It's very similar to what some airplanes use; like the EF Typhoon or the F-35. Without the computer making adjustments constantly, you could not even glide with them. They are too unstable otherwise. Never piloted an helicopter on a simulator-like program, though. I'll try out the TOH demo. -
You seem to be misunderstanding the point of rmod. Mainly, it lets servers make changes that would otherwise need a separate mod entity as custom .pbos It's basically a mod layer that gives servers more options. And don't talk about balance. DayZ is already pretty horrendous in term of balance.

Fort Bandit and the case of the butthurt admins.

Tell me where these lands lie so I may visit them lay in my spare time. What a marvellous tale of heroics and infamy, dear deer, you had me trembling in expectation for a harrowing finale! And I am happy to see I was not deceiving myself in those thoughts. -
Anyone interested in a server with the following: @Ace, @Acs, @JSRS -Test server up!-
Bearded McGee replied to nikizor's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I don't think this a priority but it would be nice to have everything in single file. Would make backtracking and issue solving easier. I am intently looking forward to this. I am currently getting more familiar with Arma 2 mainly via domination servers and I'll soon switch/try to learn about ACE more in detail. Tried it a bit already and I see how well it could change the dynamic of DayZ. Wind alone will make things much different for ambushing and longer range fighting. Havent been in touch with the community enough recently and I haven't looked in this particularly either yet, but has there ever been a functioning DayZ ACE server up? Last I remember, it had been attempted but there were compatibility issues between Rocket's custom code and some of ACE subs. -
2-3 month Day Z break, what is it like today?
Bearded McGee replied to Saul Weinstein's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
More maps that you can handle. Really, more maps that you can like! I recommend Panthera and Namalsk. Everything else is bellow Chernarus-par. -
Two problems, not with the idea itself (well...) but how it's being built. First, 40mm flare charges are not compatible with anything but impact 40mm tubes. They are right now, as depicted in ARMA 2 and then DayZ, not even accurate. The small parachute should give it at least a 2 minute duration from lit to fall on flat terrain. Then again, people have no idea how candle charges work. They don't illuminate a large area and they don't work for long. They shed a hard red or white-yellow light for a short duration and they are not kept airborne with a small parachute like 40mm charges. There are, actually, 40mm signal rockets. Those works like actual signal flares. But, what you usually see in movies are pyrotechnic pieces. Hurray for a bigger utility item pool. Booo for bigger fantasy utility item pool. EDIT: Thinking again, most micro signal flares are 12g in size and can actually be fired from anything that can use 12g. So yeah, shotguns. P.S. You know what I want? 40mm pellets shells for my under-barrelled M203.

Chat, especially sidechat, is an immersion breaker at its base. And you think adding emotes will make the game more immersive? Say what again!

Maybe it was intended for me? Deleted my post for some reason too. There's goes my will to relate my adventures.

Bearded McGee replied to cheezitschrist's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'd actually like to see someone try a middleman here. Some sort of median between side and direct. "Anyone in cherno" would be heard by those in cherno as long as the speaker is in there also. Making the boundary between sectors the frontier between the regions (which is the nearest named point on the map, if you spawn there, you know which location it is) Radios could even be implemented into this. Better yet, have radio tiers. Military radios, even the current models, don't have that much range. Certainly nothing past any obstacles. Relays must be placed in the region at the high points (often an AWACS). Shitty radios can have a very short range (under a km, without interference and obstacles) while higher grade civilian radios can reach further and through obstacles to a certain extent. Now, not only would you have a shorter range to radios, but finding a high point would be the best way to reach far away survivors. Think about it, Green Mountain would be the only location in Chernarus where a radio could reach almost everywhere (along maybe the top of certain radio towers and buildings)! People say "radios are coming, much better than sidechat!" I don't agree. Having magical radios is no better than magical chat. Hard limitations need to be brought to keep the radios in line with what one would actually find in post-apocalyptic Chernarus. Couple this with the ability to leave messages around and the need to use specific frequencies (along with encrypted radio signals from high-end terminals and portable-stations) and this could lead to a whole lot of meta. How about CB equipped vehicles? -
Dayz Panthera - Official downloads, info and discussion
Bearded McGee replied to mrsherenai's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Really like it so far. Few obvious landmarks so it's hard to get your bearings. Very mountainous and I like that. Few issues; in any case a much more stable and functional release than Crapujah. Some buildings were scaled down a bit, which bring some problem. Also, hearing the damn sea while inland in annoying. had a jolly good time. Rammed a parked Osprey with a pickup, it blew up killing three guys but not me. Good loot afterward. -
And I pulled a Rick Grimes. Almost. Had to do it. We was detrimental to the security of the group. He was continuously "joking" with his AKM, pointing it at people at saying he would shoot. Often leading to nothing or him shooting just over others. He'd get into frisky situations which he oft needed to get bailed out of. He pulled one of his joke again while we were nearing a point oft used as a camp. Shot right over me as I was in front and it took a few times before he admitted to the shot. He's getting obnoxious too, saying I wronged him (I'm basically ignoring him at this point) and his tone is getting higher and higher. he's pointing his AKM at me. I decide to put him down, but he's not leading and he's not gonna get in front of me. Not wanting to handle his insufferable attitude one second longer, I turn around and unload with my AK74M. Hit him trice while he get me twice. I'm dead, he's probably around 400 blood. Some players can't be argued with. They accept little more than tribal tribute and bongo chants. Of all my online gaming life, he's the individual whom I hold the most hatred toward. My only regret is that I couldn't pull a clear kill.

Bearded McGee replied to Bearded McGee's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Newsflash, "Fenchman" doesn't necessarily mean from France itself. You learn things everyday, eh? Also, that phrase was perfectly constructed. Your current reading comprehension seem to say you are either tired, drunk, high or a combination thereof. I'm deeply sorry, but I've learned English by reading books like Stocker's Dracula and Lovecraft's bibliography. It might be a bit out of date, but at least it's concise. -

1.1, meaning one of the secondary, private hive map file. Better luck to ask in the private hive section of the forum. -

It couldn't wait. His AKM was trained on me already. I was in front (and he wouldn't lead) He was getting threatening I also hold little value upon my own life, so I didn't have to play it down and bide my time. P.S. cut some slack on the Frenchman. English is so basic that it's a chore to downgrade. P.P.S. To Chicken Filet and Taters, Lets not get into this. At least I don't get "your" and "you're" mixed. Also, Jackson is as good as it can to use as an avatar. It aggravates me that you would think it a relation to my real-life person. -

And Outerra being a mistress We need scale. P.S. I'd rather have Metro 2033 over S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Looks better and the guns are heck-a-lot more fun. What I would have to play a DayZ version running with gun-handling similar to Metro 2033!
