Ok so you recently started DayZ, you're eager to get new gear, so you should go to Cherno right? Wrong! Yes the larger cities are known for their capacity of supplies, but what people don't seem to understand is that there is plenty of gear there but it's usually only decent level gear, and it's more hostile of an area. Acquiring good gear takes time and travel, if you're not a patient person then the idea of a survival game is kinda contradictory to you in the first place. Lets say you want certain equipment such as NV Goggles or a high end weapon such as a FN FAL, then you want to go to the international airfield barracks. I know the barracks are a intimidating place to be, but the best way I get there after a fresh spawn is to go to a low population server, and search the southern coastal towns for a map and an old bike, that way you can use the map to target the barracks by shift+clicking the desired location, and the bike will allow faster access without the need for fuel. Also the ghillie suit are one of the most sought after items in Chernarus and the best places to get these are castle gates, which are also a common traffic area, but nowhere near as bad as Cherno nor the airfield. The best backpacks are most commonly found in deer stands scattered all across Chernarus, be careful though because they are commonly guarded by a small group of military zombies, and a police zombie. If you don't know the locations of these areas then use this interact-able map on the DayZ Wiki: http://db.dayzwiki.com/map/chernarus Just put what you're looking for in the item name box and the location of said item will appear, then you can use the loot chance scroll bar to the left to see which locations have the highest chance of holding the item. The point is don't be cheap, lazy, and charge into a large city for high quantity, moderate quality items, when you can be safer obtaining better quality ones. I survived for four days straight and had all the top gear items, ghillie suit, AS50, NVG's, GPS, etc, just don't get carried away with loot farming like I did and ended up spending too much time in one location, stay mobile. Good luck and if you ever see me out there, remember, i'm here to help, chances are i'll have equipment to give you, so keep your firearm holstered.

That's great I guess?

To the bastard who killed me. That was the second time I had died since I bought the game six days ago. I had every tool, I had two M4s, one M4SD, a satchel charge, NVG's, the biggest backpack, and a ghillie suit. It was literally a night time server, only three other people on a island with over 200km of land and I get killed by you. The only thing I have to say is... Nice fucking shot. Not being sarcastic, you're the one that's alive, i'm the one six feet under, clearly I did something wrong, got to greedy with my looting. This is aimed at him, but also a message to the people who whine about being murdered by bandits, in the entirety of my time on DayZ, I have never killed another person, but I still dislike it when people say it's unfair they got killed by a bandit. If you die by the hands of a bandits legitimately, then the only one at fault is yours, whether it's because you got greedy with looting, or because you weren't being cautious enough. At the end of the day the fact is you gave an opportunistic bandit the opportunity to do what he does best. Stop whining and saying its unfair, instead, try to learn from your mistakes. I usually loot one barrack then leave, but I didn't see any zombies, got greedy, and ran all across the airfield, and got put down, simple as that. TL;DR: there is no TL;DR, this is a forum, stop being lazy, and read a little.

They are actually somewhat common all across the small coastal towns, it's just that they're very hard to notice, small, and shaded a grayish green, blends in easily.

Well I know you can just rush it, and suicide a few times for gear, but that really kills it to me when playing a "survival" game. The idea that people always think about the fact they can just re-spawn again and only lose their loot is what seems to kill the largest aspect of the survival idea. Bugs me when I see a guy running around with a hatchet in desperation trying to PvP someone, wish they'd make it so you can't log in for a day once when you die, would cut back the trolling, and the PKing, because suddenly making enemies truly is a bad idea, supports teaming up more. However this is a heavily flawed idea due to hackers and the fact it's just my irrelevant opinion in the first place.

The satchel charge was a gift, I help a certain clan with supply and logistics. Even with supplying them, I usually still have left over weapons because they only prefer SD weapons, so if you want something then PM me, if I find a spare one, i'll PM you back, and probably just give it to you. If I ever come across that much stuff again, i'll gladly trade a large stock of weapons for a Mtn Dew lol.

Well I if I for whatever reason I die, I try to find a map, and an old bike fast as possible. Use the old bike and go to the southern end of the map, theres a huge chain of supermarkets heading up to the international airfield from there, just stop at each market, jump off the bike, and charge in, collect as much useful loot you can. Usually each one will yield low/moderate guns, food, and decent tools. Go to each one except Stary Sober unless you're feeling very lucky (not recommended). Then head to the airfield, if your having trouble finding it, and you have a map, you can hold shift, and click on the airfield, and a way point will appear leading you there. I ONLY recommend going into the barrack closest to the control tower, it usually has at least 2-4 high level weapons, again don't get cocky, and go all over the airfield like I did, otherwise I'd still have my stuff. Once you have looted the barrack, get back on the bike, and head to devil's castle, plenty of small towns in between to restock. The castle's in my opinion aren't very good for high level looting, except for the ghillie which spawns at the gate, but then again it's a damn ghillie, worth the ride just because of it. From there I usually just go to deer stand to deer stand till I go into a large circle, by then hopefully there will be a server re-set, and you cant loot the markets, and airfield again. There you go, that's how I do my looting runs. Now i'm probably going to get PKed even more lol.

Yeah, I rarely saw people on DayZ for the first few days, so when I saw the glitches bodies in a small room with me, I couldn't stop shaking for about 15 minutes.
-
As for the equipment locations and chances, they are correct, yeah I know the guide is terrible but the facts are true. Shift clicking, old bike, airfield equipment, ghillie, large cities being hostile, rarely holding worthwhile gear, etc. I know it's posted terribly but if something isn't true then tell me specifically, that way I'm not screwing myself over in the near future.
-
Could you perhaps name ones specifically?
-
Sgt you there?
-
Seems kinda counter productive for a hacker to use smaller servers, as it will be easier to figure out who he is. Maybe he's just a not so bright script kiddy lol.
-
Which facts?
-
I just don't like seeing some new player run into a big city because that's where everyone says to go then gets shot down. Like a few days ago there was a fresh spawn, had an old bike with me so I caught up to him offering supplies, but he just seemed scared, and set on going to electro, kept offering but he kept running so I let it go and followed from a distance. Lost him in the city, heard some gunshots, saw his name appear, felt bad.
-
Yeah of course the supermarkets but again, it was created to explain how to get good equipment. Sadly though I'm apparently terrible at giving advice.
-
Lol bonehead.. Didn't you just get done posting on my other thread? Why do you think I server hop?
-
Sheesh you act like I'm saying to live only in low population servers, just do it until you get a weapon at least if you guys really hate this post (though none of you are actually new in the first place) then tell me how to delete it. I will if according to everybody it's terrible, guess I'm not a guide guy.
-
I hate it when people say TL;DR in a forum, about as lazy as you can get.
-
Again this is a guide for new players with most likely no equipment or weapons, not for bandits decked out to kill.
-
=/ Yea I got killed by a sniper round i'm sure, was pitch black too, I had NVG's, but they don't help with any sniper besides DMR. I remember how I got my first pair of NVG's, was in the barracks, had gone to the farthest room and logged off. Logged back on, quite literally two guys in this 5x7 room with me, spawned in with one holding a glock to my head, and the other looking out the window. I sat there for a whole minute in a standstill trying to keep myself calm, after awhile I tried moving a little, no response from them, looked in their bags, no response. Took some mags, a NVG, a GPS, and some food, still no response. Took me 8 minutes till I realized they were just dead bodies glitched, still standing as if alive. Embarrassing and the 8 most tension filled minutes in my DayZ life. Still makes me laugh though when I think about it.

Best Gun For Close Range Players?
Hikurac replied to iamevmiester(USM)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You guys are forgetting about the sidearm :( PDW all the way, can be chambered with a ton of different magazine types, and if you put SD ammo in it, it will become suppressed to zombies. As for a primary, i'd have to go with the others on the Mk.48, things a beast, but if you can't find it then go for a M4A1 SD. As for implementing the AA12 in the game, well I LOVE the AA12, but it would be considered too expensive for Russian hardware, unless they make it as rare as a L85A2 or something. -
Also amaROenuZ, if I find another FN FAL, i'll message you, I find those things like crazy lately, 5 times in 2 days. I throw away guns constantly do to not having a tent :/
-
Nah guys you don't have to give me any gear. I know how to get my equipment back, it was my mistake, and i'm not going to trouble you guys over it.

The State of the Game and Why a Once "Addict" Has Moved On
Hikurac replied to Icus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah I understand what you mean, when I found out about tents I was so excited, only to my dismay that the re-sets eats my equipment. That's probably the biggest thing I want fixed because i'm a massive hoarder, but I still don't think it's worth quitting over. -
Beans boy! Making it rain beans all over your profile!
