So I have been watching this wonderful series, DayZ - The Diary of Isaac: It had me thinking of some old ideas I had while playing the mod. These are all hypothetical features, as i'm sure most people would hate them due to their harsh and inconvenient nature. Here's the idea's: -Zombies can "infect" players by making them bleed. Once infected, their motor controls would decrease, they may fire off weapons on accident, lots of stomach issues, and lastly after about 2-3 hours an AI would take over and attempt to kill other players in the area. There is a cure to the virus, however it is extremely rare due amount of people that tried to obtain it. -Out of game chat programs are a bannable offense and the community discourages meta-gaming (Impossible, I know). -When a player begins the game, he is sent to a random server, to which they cannot switch until death. Upon death the player is forced to re-spawn in another, random server and cannot return to the previous one. At least not for a very very long period of time. Just Imagine: You have been playing for a while and you have met another player. You don't know him outside of the game but you promise to play with him at specific times on certain days. You've spent the majority of your DayZ hours with him so far. Well, just like on any other day, a horde of zeds attack the both of you. You decide to shoot them, as using melee is too risky. You friend uses up all of his ammo and you have very little left, but the horde is dead. Once you think the fight is over, one last zombie comes running towards you while you are reloading. Your friend pulls out his axe and begins to attack the zed, as a last resort to save you and he takes down the zombie. Finally the battle is over. You perform your usual checks on each-other to see if either one of you are bleeding and infected. Yet your friend seems reluctant to take off his shirt. You keep asking him to and finally he finally removes his top. He has been cut, and he is infected... He tells you to put him down but you refuse, and instead you both embark on a search for the cure. It's been thirty minutes and his stomach is making some very odd noises. After an hour he begins losing motor controls and accidentally fires off his M4 multiple times, almost killing you in the process. So he throws it away. After two hours he starts throwing up and collapsing repeatedly, it is clear that he is going to die. He asks you again to put him down, as he doesn't want to turn into a zed and attack you as well. You know its the only option. You take him to a tall hill and you both sit down on the top, looking at the horizon landscape. You both begin talking a little bit about your adventures, knowing he doesn't have much time left. After about half an hour, he is trying to talk but he keeps throwing up blood, effectively cutting off direct chat when it occurs. You stand up while he is talking and pull out your revolver. As you walk behind him and begin loading the round; you both start laughing with a bleak tone, stating how much fun you've had surviving alongside each other. A long pause of silence occurs, he begins making savage noises, however you can still hear his voice as he says his goodbyes. You raise your revolver up and he stands up and turns around. His face, now unfamiliar and feral. His arms rise up to attack and you squeeze the trigger... What was once your friend, is now a lifeless corpse at your feet. All those hours spent eating together, fighting together, and surviving together, now just memories. There was no meta-gaming so you can't contact him, if he re-spawns it will be in another server, and he cannot come back to you. His existence has effectively been removed from your life as you know it, all because of a bullet, fired from your gun. This is a true apocalypse moment, and this is what I want my DayZ experience to be like. Alright, so that's my little idea and story to back it up. Yes I do realize it will most likely never happen and I never expect it to. Just a little thought that I wanted to share with anyone that might be interested.

Oh wow, nice find. I would love it if they implemented this but of course too many people would get angry, including most of my friends lol. Meta-gaming is far too convenient to let go of.
-
Yea I love it, sad that they never released this version of the game. Apparently it had too many law suit/licensing issues :/.

I actually quite like how they did it in the mod for awhile. Zombie can cut you and infect you. You would die from the infection after a set amount of time. Made the zombies an actual threat (However it happened far too often). Although like you said, the rest is simply something I stated in order to build up my little story. I wouldn't mind simply dying from an infection.

It is possible. Interstellar Marines has, or had a very small team when they came up with this. I imagine the 70 or so programmers on the DayZ team could implement it. Then again I imagine the process for Interstellar was much easier due to the size of the game itself.

Yeah as for 3rd party applications, I wish they couldn't be used in DayZ. I mean I love Teamspeak, but it just feels like i'm breaking the game when I can communicate miles away, without a radio, and without letting others hear me. Me and some friends actually tried playing in a group of three without TS and it was surprisingly fun. That eerie feeling that someone might be listening. The countless times that everyone would say "SHH! SHHH!! I think I hear someone outside!" over direct made the game feel much more immersive. Just wish you could control the level of audio output based on how loud your actually speaking. Kind of like this (Skip to 12:40). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTkdHJsdnI4&feature=player_detailpage#t=760

No I love playing with my friends, and yes I know it's a stupid idea. It was the only plausible thing I could think of to make people truly feel like they are loosing someone when death occurs, as chances are they would never meet again. With this implemented tents could no longer be used as "re-supply stations" when someone dies. It would also make persistent equipment (vehicles, etc) feel much more important and personal, knowing that you wouldn't be able to have it after death. Overall people would simply care more about trying not to die. None of this is serious, its just a thought to hopefully spark a better idea in someone else's mind.

Just make all servers run with the same time but make it so the day only last 18-22 hours. This way if you play in Europe you will be playing day time one day, but you will be forced to play at night about a week later.

In-game sound needs to be re-worked
Hikurac replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
My guess is that the server handles a lot of the sounds and when someone opens a can you might hear it server-wide. Same with other various sounds. Again, just a guess. -
You guys ready for this fine couture?

Unarmed fighting needs to be severely nerfed
Hikurac replied to andrestor's topic in General Discussion
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glKUkz2ht38 lol Keep in mind they are wearing gloves too. As for helmets it would be very easy to KO someone in a combat helmet from the front, however I do believe the motorbike helmet should be borderline immune. -
A very puffy jacket that's filled with feathers to keep you warm.

We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.

http://n4g.com/news/997776/i-wanted-it-to-be-an-anti-game-day-z-creator-dean-hall-speaks-to-games-on-net "Hall has described the mod as something of an "anti-game" as it broke what he felt were generally considered to be basic rules of game design such as balance and not frustrating users." lol -
My Character is Obese and has Diabeetus...
Hikurac replied to Rōnin Rick's topic in General Discussion
Considering how much you run in DayZ, you'd probably need those 20,000 calories. -
The east used to be so friendly, now we gotta head west...

Loadout Video - Some improvements needed still.
Hikurac replied to hitt0r's topic in General Discussion
Survival wise it's a pretty good loadout. Just keep in mind that with of the military gear (especially the mask) you look like the typical bandit. As for the food, do what funky_mish says and just eat it. There's no need to have drink or food on your person, unless you never go into town. At most you might need a canteen and a thing of rice. Other then that your completely set. -
Why the hell would I want ugly icons taking up my screen again? As for the compass, I'd rather hit the hotbar and my player look down (with my weapon still out), and look at the compass for as long as I hold the button. No need for a magical one to poof in front of my face like the mod. Less HUD all the way. The text is pretty bad, perhaps just have hunger, sickness, and dehydration indicators on the gear menu. Then just have audial and visual (not HUD) indicators for your current status, such as stomach grumbling for when your very hungry so you don't forget. This is all just my opinion I suppose, just so happens that I prefer immersion over icons on my screen.

Yeah I don't understand it either. Me and my friends have these little operations where we go out and make people comply to what we say, we even offer rewards if they do what we tell them. It's never anything harmful like "kill this other guy" or "eat this rotten food", typically I run around pantless telling them to free themselves and go pantless, resulting in us shooting the pair of evil pants that they have surrendered and giving them supplies for their journey. Yet they still refuse to comply, even when it gives them a good laugh and free loot. Hell one time we had the same guy refuse to comply three times to read the book we gave him, going so far as to suicide in order to not read it. In his defense, it was the "Vindication of the Rights of Women", so I can understand his reluctance...

Could DayZ be done better on a different engine?
Hikurac replied to doctorbadsign's topic in General Discussion
There are multiple engines that can easily handle large maps, the issue is handling the thousands of AI and dynamic items lying about such a map. I'll admit the animations for items are a complete joke in DayZ (can't even see a magazine when reloading), although i'm fairly certain they are all placeholders as of now, and will be replaced later on. As for clunky movement, I don't think it's clunky at all. People think it's clunky because it's not "smooth" like other games. DayZ's movement operates through the physics of a skeleton, kind of like people in real life do. However most people are used to the movement of a fps game engine, like source or frostbite, where your basically an extremely mobile floating torso with a gun in your hand. My biggest fear was that DayZ's movement would become like that of other fps games. Thus resulting in bandits running around, bunny hopping, as they fire upon me with their sniper rifle like it's a match from CS;GO or something... -
I like the idea, it'd be realistic and make firefights interesting when you can barely hear for a couple of minutes. Make some common ones that construction workers would use and some higher end ones that only weaken gunshot sounds. Perhaps you might get them often in military areas and a little less common in deer stands for the hunters.

http://www.nationmaster.com/country/ez-czech-republic/tra-transportation Not as bad as I thought, I stand corrected. The Czech Republic has around 399 cars per 100 persons, along with an average of 48.33 per square km. Just keep in mind that Chernarus has quite a bit less then these statistics state since it is a rural area.
-
Just keep in mind that the game is based in Chenarus, not Russia, and the it is a rather poor place as well. The car-to-person ratio is quite low and most people just rely on bikes and public transportation. Or at least that's what everyone's been telling me.

I love the vanilla game and don't ever want it to be thrown aside for mods that add crazy features. However I believe DayZ would have never existed without mods, so Rocket should allow them. It all comes down to player demand and supply. If the vanilla game is left empty because of people only playing the mods. Well then... it just wasn't good enough for them. Their choice.

"Loot should not respawn after the reset spawns them." - Creates a sense of desperation for loot when you play on a high population server or a server that hasn't reset it quite a while. "It should respawn once the loot table gets low enough." - Would fix the issue with people not being able to find loot after searching for long periods of time. "Loot should spawn in over time, in small portions across the map." - Causes less server hopping (maybe), because when you hop to a new or low population server there will still be no guarantee of loot being there. "Loot should spawn like in the mod, when players are close by." - Causes less stress on the server, although easily exploited to get easy loot. "Loot should spawn in a large quantities, but will not respawn for a couple of days or for very long periods of time." - Kind of like the first option but more extreme.

Personally I voted for the last one. Lets say that all the public hive servers had the exact same settings. The time of day, the weather, and temperature. Now lets say the day would last 20 hrs, that way nobody can complain that they always end up playing at night, because the time will always be different when they get on. Then make it so mass quantities of loot spawn every week or make it random set of time, causing it too seem like the apocalypse just occurred. Seems like a fun idea, although it would be easily exploitable because of server-hopping. Perhaps it would be better for lone private hives.
