This is a topic brought up by LORD3N and I thought it'd be a good idea to see what the community thinks. I'm not talking about the player list in the server browser, simply the one in-game. The current system allows players to constantly check how many players are in their server and see who they are. By doing so the player can determine the odds of him coming in contact with a player, or a clan, which is rather immersion-breaking. So, what do you think?

Its not the "securing" part that bothers people when it comes to Epoch. It's the fact my Ural contains an entire fortress in the back of it, ready to unload.. http://i.imgur.com/n7CyGfa.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/a/img827/968/nmwg.jpg http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/-mCP9J2XSeU/maxresdefault.jpg (Helps give of that strong apocalyptic feeling) I think i'll just stick to Rust if I want this type of gameplay.

I don't know why it would effect your ability to kick people with degrading names. Considering that you wouldn't be able to see their names and get offended in the first place without a player list .

If someones willing to alt tab, get on a internet browser, type in GameTracker, and find the server their on (when most people have trouble finding it already), just to see who's on, then by all means let them. I doubt 95% of people who use the player list like I said would go through the effort to do it that way. Same with the Steam way. It's just a matter of convenience and accessability. Take that away and most won't even bother trying alternatives.

I'm huge fan of MGS but I doubt it would work out. Hit boxes + lag + CQC animation = Bad. Would be cool if it worked though. Maybe one day I can strike fear into those bandits, with my Iron Grip!...

Same thing when it comes to graphics. Seems like a bad idea to raise them up when everyone else lowers them in order to see other people easier. No point in me not seeing the player list if everyone else uses it :/ It's just one of those annoying situations you have to deal with while on a computer sim/game. Immersion vs. Advantage. As for the idea in general, i'm all for having it on hardcore only, allowing you to see if your friends are on the server as well.

"Official" spawn in east, travel west source
Hikurac replied to Bororm's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, thats mainly what i'm talking about. You guys should try NEO Scavenger. Guns are rare, bullets even more so. However the game is still amazing fun, even though I spend most of my time in it running around with a spear, scavenging cities for bare minimum loot, and hunting. I think it'd be pretty cool if the DayZ experience would be like that one day. -

Yeah, I hope your right. I just don't want to see DayZ go down the drown. Sorry for being dick-ish. -
"Official" spawn in east, travel west source

At first i'm sure it would seem boring. However I believe that if you could craft hunting tools (spears, etc), make hunting more interactive, and make loot rarer; the game would be much more fun. Idk, just my opinion. -
Yeah it's a terribly hard decision to make. Preferably I would rather have my system than re-spawning loot, however that's just me being greedy. As for the friends thing, lets say my system was active. When you die you can choose the server that you wish to play on. You and your friend both join and survive for days together. Through both of your actions, you have created storage, accumulated loot, and restored a vehicle. Playing like this would also mean the both of you would make surviving your utmost priority. Lets say you take a chance and try to loot a city, but your friend gets shot in the leg and is bleeding out. Your freaking out because you want to stay with your friend and if he dies, he will not be able to come back to this server. You manage to kill the attacker after a heated firefight and you patch up your friend. However he is pretty beat up and becoming ill. You scavenge for meds as hard as you can but find nothing. An hour of desperate scavenging goes by and your friend passes away. There you are, all alone in Chernarus with too much gear and time spent to prompt suicide. When someone dies, you would truly feel that it is a loss. I think that would add a lot to DayZ in terms of emotion and actually making living a priority. You think getting in a firefight is thrilling now? Can you imagine how it would feel when death actually has a cost to it?

"Official" spawn in east, travel west source
Hikurac replied to Bororm's topic in General Discussion
High probability? I think you misunderstand. If anything, loot overall should be rare. Food and bullets should be like gold. Almost a zero percent chance of you spawning and getting everything you need. I'm not trying to "force" anything. Sorry for my lack of clarification. -
Ammo Calibration : Poll & Discussion
Hikurac replied to stielhandgranate's topic in General Discussion
Yea the arguments are ridiculous. Yes I am exaggerating how I feel. I do it for a reason. There are soooo many simulation/gaming companies out there that half ass survival and realism. For ONCE I would like to see a company have the balls to go through with it. That was Rocket's vision after all, the "anti-game". A true simulator. Yes the bullet issue is minuscule, but each time one of these slip-ups occurs, it proves detrimental to the overall development. Its like a domino effect, slowly leading up to the developers becoming too lazy or scared to make realism a priority. The end result is always the same. The casual players get their quick thrill and leave for some other game, whilst the original and hardcore fans are left with a broken, arcady, pile of crap. Yeah, the arguments are stupid, but i'm willing to make them in order to get the anti-game that many of us have always wanted. -

Randomized loot and spawns. Problem solved. No matter how many times they switch up the spawns, the end result is always the same. The only real solution is randomization, which makes adventuring and discovery all the more worth it. -
This was a major issue with the mod. People would make tents near the coast just to gear up upon respawn. There's no easy solution except by taking it to extremes. My idea was when a player picks a public server, he has to stick with it till death. Once he dies, he respawns on a different server. That way there will be no vehicles or tents to actually go back to. It'd probably be a lot of fun and actually add meaning to dying, but I doubt the devs would ever agree, as they don't get paid to swim in the communities tears.

"So if we add a Makarov pistol, its going to simply fire 9mmP instead 9mmM. If we add an AK74, it'll fire 5.56mm, not 5.45mm. Thats why I haven't added those in. Those of us who are real gun nuts would revolt (but I have a feeling the wider community dosn't give a crap as long as it looks cool :)" - Chris Torchia Good to know this is someone working on the Bohemia team... Way to dumb down the anti-game I suppose.. Hell, as long as its for that wider community I guess its A-Ok. I wonder if this is how the Elder Scrolls fans felt when Skyrim came out. Can't wait till some sucker tries to fire a 5.56 through a AK74 because he did it on Standalone. -
Experimental brings us hunting, do you want to know what this means?
Hikurac replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
If your sitting still keeping track of the meat, then you shouldn't be starve by the time the meat cooks. Also, I think most people prefer the semi-realistic cooking time, it's just a matter of patience. -

Well if your idea of fun is casual gaming and instant pleasure then your a lucky man, there is plenty of it. If people keep complaining and streamlining DayZ, then you might as well add that onto the casual list as well. That's seems to be the direction its headed in order to obtain or keep its large audience. -

"clearly any kind of evacuation in this place failed hence all the dead people running around"... Last I checked there might be 5 zeds per large city. As for the amount of loot and being lore friendly, its simple. Just say it's Chernarus in the future, 5-10 years after the outbreak. This little bit of information alone would justify the lack of bullets and food. Hence the years of fighting, killing, and scavenging. -
"40 people on here right now, better stay low." "Only 5 people on right now!! Well golly, lets head to the airfields!! "..... That. I can understand keeping it on regular servers, however it would be nice not knowing who and how many are on. It keeps you on your toes and makes you act closer to how you would in real life, having no idea how many people have survived the outbreak. Also makes server hoppers that much more anxious when looting a large area.

Ammo Calibration : Poll & Discussion
Hikurac replied to stielhandgranate's topic in General Discussion
Can't always rely on mods to fix the developers problems. Mods are great and they do have a lot of nice features. The problem is that everybody migrates to the mods and the core gameplay never gets any better because the devs think people have stopped caring about it. Another issue with mods is that they have a ton of great features but each one has an Achilles' heel which makes it unbearable. For example many of them allowed you to build tiny shelters at first, but then caved in to the community and allowed you to build entire cities at will. As good as the mods were in some aspects, they were utterly horrid in others. http://www.xp4t.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Capture1.png http://i.imgur.com/n7CyGfa.jpg http://up.picr.de/17512694dx.jpg I hope I never have to see this in the Standalone... Also pretty difficult to complain about engine blocks in a backpack when people carry entire cities in a Ural. -
So we should sacrifice immersion and enjoyment because of hackers? Seems a little bit counter-productive.

Ammo Calibration : Poll & Discussion
Hikurac replied to stielhandgranate's topic in General Discussion
I always kind of thought DayZ, the "anti-game", was supposed to be as challenging and realistic as possible. If anything, that is supposed to be the fun part about it. It's not meant to be "streamlined" or easy. The idea is that surviving is a overbearing and cumbersome challenge which makes staying alive all the more rewarding. If your worrying about calibers then perhaps this isn't something you should be playing. I can't imagine how you will react when you have trouble just staying alive and fending for yourself, let alone streamlining bullets. This is exactly what I am afraid of. Almost every hardcore/realism based game or simulator out there gets ruined because the developers half ass the realism due to complaints by the community. This is counter-productive and actually makes the simulator much less interesting, typically causing the fans to leave, dissatisfied with the results. All of that because the community fails to see the big picture, or they become too impatient to care about the end result of development. Stop dumbing down DayZ every time somebody complains about it being too hard or inconvenient. -
Global chat in itself sounds like a terrible idea (just my opinion). It ruins the idea of an apocalyptic world if i'm able to instantly communicate with everyone without any drawbacks. Just make it available to those with a radio and call it "Frequency Chat", allowing only those on the same frequency to communicate across the map.

That's kind of why they give you a flashlight when you spawn... I don't understand why they should disable night time either, considering that 95% of servers are daytime only anyways, which is completely ass backwards for a "hardcore simulator" in the first place.
