So all this being said, is there any point? There is no solution. What are you gonna do, make a ban hammer for anyone who shoots a girl gamer in an apocalyptic setting? Report players who "discriminate" who they kill? Yeah it will hurt a girls experience, but this is a free world environment, devoid of any rules (aside from cheating obviously) so there's nothing that can really be done about it. The last thing we need is white-knight server owners kicking people every time a girl player gets shot.

Well the barricading is supposed to go along with the idea of persistent loot. If it's actually "persistent" then there should be no re-spawning of loot once the location has been looted. However they could make it where loot continues to spawn and if that's the case than yes, barricading would be somewhat broken.
-
I'm all for it. Seems like a great way to enhance combat. Also gives some incentive to practice with a variety of guns. Although the delay between clicking and shooting seems a little counter-intuitive.

How do I perceive DayZ "base building"? Hopefully just barricading and small shelter making. Here are some examples of what i'm afraid "base building" will become like. http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/_jyKv6rRXK0/maxresdefault.jpg http://www.gamersplatoon.net/images/178/Screenshot10.jpg http://i.imgur.com/scw94VVl.jpg http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2014/12/1395581065-arma2oa-2014-03-23-14-18-17-07.png http://up.picr.de/17512694dx.jpg http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/-NT0tprpIYk/maxresdefault.jpg http://files.enjin.com.s3.amazonaws.com/572504/module_gallery/original/1731582.jpg http://www.xp4t.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Capture1.png Defying physics, one player making entire cities, little amount of resources needed, borderline tower defense gameplay, sky bases, carrying entire buildings in the back vehicles, players are all apparently master craftsmen, copy paste buildings, basically Rust except probably even easier....

I agree with everything except I would prefer public hives stick with only Regular:3PV On and Hardcore 3PV: Off. It seems a lot of people here wish Regular never existed in the first place, but personally I think it's a good thing. I'd much rather have a split community then a mixed one. It allows casual and hardcore players to influence development without getting in each others way. The last thing I want is the enormous regular player base influencing the development of the hardcore servers. If that were to happen then DayZ would surely get messed up for the hardcore players (Tagging friendlies, spawn near friends, more loot, humanity system, Epoch style building, easier hunting, faster cooking, etc.) because the regular players clearly outnumber us. Or at least that's how it feels when comparing the number of regular and hardcore servers. The split community is a double edged sword but I think its best if it stays.
-
Yes, it's incredibly annoying. It seems like a small issue, until your in a military or urban area, and the only thing you can hear is bullets combining and people reloading constantly.
-
Yeah I was kinda annoyed when I found them. At least there were no mags. Still, it needs to be fixed.

Why are there basically no 3pp:off servers - grow a pair.
Hikurac replied to dubghall's topic in General Discussion
I do dislike the regular to hardcore ratio, however I am kind of glad that they made the two different types of servers. It gives us the ability to split between the two. Regular servers can go on to develop for more casual gameplay. Hardcore can do its own thing and develop ways to make the game more realistic, challenging, etc. It's a double-edged sword, however I rather have it than not. If there was only one server type, then there would be too much infighting (already is) and decisions would be made based on numbers of people alone. This way there can be a split and everyone can survive the way they want. However, this will only work effectively if they continue to divide the server types more so than just "3PV or not". -
You can find them in police stations quite commonly in experimental. Went to 4 police stations yesterday, 3 of which had M4's.

- (Server Hive Idea) A player joins a hive server and that is the only server he can play on until he dies. Once he dies he gets to choose another server and he cannot come back to the old server for a very long period of time (Weeks, Months, etc.) The Result: When persistent loot, barricading, and vehicles are implemented people will do whatever it takes to stay alive. They do so because dying would actually have a price. All of your progress would essentially be lost. Suddenly everyone has a reason to live through a broken leg. Nobody is willing to suicide to spawn near a friend. Firefights would create an even bigger adrenaline rush. Just going through a mid-size town would put players on edge. Constantly worrying about taking a bullet from a window somewhere. Repairing a vehicle without dying is an actual accomplishment with a reward. Tents are no longer just "re-gearing" stashes for when you die. Keeping your friends alive during battle will actually be a priority rather than just "don't worry i'll just watch the body if you die". Death would actually have a price and survival would become priority number one. Now of course the community will cry every tear it can muster up. "What will I do if I have lots of stuff and my friend dies?" Well, you either choose the progress you've made or you decide that living just isn't worth it without your friend and you suicide. Suddenly jumping off that building isn't so easy now is it? "It makes the game too hard and puts me on edge." Welcome to DayZ, the apocalypse simulator. If too many people dislike it due to the harshness, give them a choice and make it for hardcore only. It would add a lot to the game in terms of emotion and prioritizing staying alive. However it will never happen. Even if the community decided for it, I doubt the devs would ever take that risk. Hopefully one day someone will implement it on private hives or on a modded version.

Imagine if we pulled this off for a couple of hours (er lol!).

Hell i'd love to take part in this. Berezino would be a great place, however too many people spawn there. You'd just have bandits disguised as Bambi's flooding into town constantly. -
Lmao i'm all for realism and immersion. However if a "feature" can't be implemented correctly into DayZ, then it shouldn't be implemented at all, and this is a prime example.

I agree with Chaingun, it seems many of the guns were included simply because they have a "cool feeling" to them in the apocalypse. I can see many of them being implemented, but the issue is that they are either the limited edition or the discontinued versions. Just implement cheaper and more common versions. As for the FNX-45 and Amphibia S, make them rare and only on heli crashes. It's a zombie outbreak and i'm sure the United States Special Forces would be involved. As for the zombies, yes their numbers need to be immensely high but you should never expect players to be friendly due to a common enemy. I don't get the misunderstanding revolving around the shoot-on-sight mentality. If I was in the apocalypse, especially after a long period of time, chances are I would kill others on sight as well. If I don't then its just a higher chance that I will be killed, and there's no reason to take that chance. Of course if I see some medium geared guy looting buildings, chances are i'll just let him be. However if I see some heavily armed guys, damn straight i'll shoot them, or run away. It's just too big of a risk and its a survival simulator. Take a hint. Don't get me wrong though, the death-match kiddies are annoying, as they don't give a flip about survival. However I tend to categorize them with the extreme, no-chance, survivalists. When it comes to kill-on-sight, they both fit the bill.

The whole idea is for the public hive. As for the foreigners, yes you have a good point, and I can't think of a good solution to it. Honestly it probably would be best to just leave the server list. However I do believe it would be best to reduce the specific information given to the players, such as the exact number of people on the server. I like the "20+/20- Player Count" idea. Would heavily reduce server hopping and would keep people on their toes.

How to make it work. Just make it so you can choose Hardcore/Regular, then connect. It will automatically bring you to a server with very low ping and if you want to join a friend, you can do so through the Steam menu (or a friend menu option). As for why people oppose your solution? It's good but it just feels gamey for DayZ I suppose. Idk.

Everything that's wrong with DayZ servers in one picture.

Better solution, join said server and kill everyone you see. There is no safety net on the public hive. As for why I care? Well it affects me, because its on the public hive. -

Hikurac replied to FrostDMG's topic in General Discussion
I wouldn't have a problem with this if they were private hives but the issue is people just hop on these servers, get endgame loot, and then hop on normal servers to kill everybody. That or they go the server hopper route, get great gear, hide from everything, die from a ladder, and then ponder why there's no fun or challenge. \ In all honesty the biggest issue I see is the Hardcore-to-Regular server ratio. Really says something about DayZ's so-called hardcore community.. I would love to ask Rocket if he's proud of his decision to keep 3PV in DayZ, but i'm fairly certain he'd just show me his wallet and smile in response. -
I used to play in large organized groups. However now none of my friends play DayZ, or at least not regularly, so I have no choice but to play solo all the time. When your in a group you always feel invincible. If you die you can just have your friends guard your body and death no longer has any penalty. That being said, I have grown accustomed again to playing lone wolf, as there is actually a reason to be scared. I tend to stay on the West side of the map, hunting, fishing, cooking, reading, etc. I've made it a habit to close every door that I open, leaving no trace of me being there. Sometimes when i'm bored i'll just stalk people. I stalk them until they enter a town and go into a building. I slowly follow them in as far as I can, leave a note and then fall back, closing every door on the way out. Makes for a pretty good laugh as I can't imagine how paranoid they will become. The best I've managed so far is I stalked some guy into a bar and he went AFK on the upper floor. I went up and checked his pulse and left a note saying "Doge (yes his name was a meme..) you should try turning around more often". I waited outside and sure enough I begin hearing what sounds like a ten year old screaming "HELLO?! FRIENDLY FRIENDLY!" and I shit you not 5 seconds later he says "I'LL SHOOT YOU IF YOU DON'T COME OUT!". At this point my stomach is hurting from laughter. After about 20 seconds of footsteps alternating upstairs, he says "If your here I know your hacking, have fun getting banned." I go up there and he's gone, so i'm guessing he logged out. All in all, this makes the dangers of stalking completely worth it. Speaking of stalking, it reminds me of when I first played the mod around April or May of 2012. Not too many played at that point so I didn't see anyone until about 2 weeks into playing it. When I finally saw someone my heart began racing like crazy and I would just stalk them. Although there wasn't much danger, as people were extremely friendly at the time, kind of like survivors at the beginning of an outbreak. I like the irony of it all. Its like i'm the one that survived, all my friends are gone, and i'm back to surviving solo. The only difference now is that zombies aren't the only threat..
-
Well yeah, that's what i'm trying to say. I doubt the developers would just slap loot around without clarifying the setting. I'm not saying that they have to do one before the other.

What clothing set/weapons would you add if you could?
Hikurac replied to SomeCallMeNomad (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I like humor in this game, but i'm kind of afraid that this kind of stuff will become too common. I wouldn't mind if stuff like this was in the game, provided that it was extremely rare. If it isn't rare then I'll basically be playing Team Fortress 2 are a very large map.. -

Could just make it so standing up with it has an enormous amount of sway. If the player fires it while standing, he may fall down, harm yourself, or just go plain unconscious . Would be hilarious to watch, especially if they finally add in an animation where you fall down on your back instead of your belly. -
Don't fight too much over the lore. The lore is important but the only real thing that dictates loot availability is the time in which DayZ is set. It's clear that it has been a while since the outbreak but I don't believe Rocket has ever set a time period. Doesn't matter how many soldiers fought in the region, if the area is quarantined and it's been at least 2-3 years, those guns would have been scavenged and used up all to hell. Also keep in mind that zombies weren't the only thing these people were fighting against. Who knows, they could even put a little spin on it and make it so regular is closer to the outbreak, whereas hardcore is farther in the future. I'm not pushing for that idea, just laying it out there.
-
If you want both realism and balance, its as simple as stating that this is Chernarus about two years after the outbreak. Low amount of bullets, food, and crappy gun conditions would make sense due to two years of scavenging, killing, and societal degradation. As for gasoline, it itself doesn't really "go bad" or rather the additives in it do. The additional compounds separate and become grimy. It doesn't make the vehicle unusable, just sluggish and gunky. My cousin left her car sitting around for over a year and a half. It was annoying trying to start the car but it still worked, and could get you from point A to B just fine. Then again Toyota's are pretty tough compared to most vehicles.

If H1Z1 will have squads and clans at early access why ...
Hikurac replied to Demonio (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
That's the gist of it and now they demand that DayZ be the same as Epoch and the other modifications. In all honesty I love the modifications, as they had many great features. The issue however is that each mod had a huge detrimental flaw that should never be applied to Standalone. Here are some examples: Epoch: I loved building small wooden shelters, however Epoch took it too far and people built cities and sky-bases, whilst transporting large buildings in the back of their Ural. Also it had completely civilized NPC's, whom you could trade with but could not kill and forced multiple safe zones that used magic to prevent me from using my gun... Not exactly apocalyptic. Breaking Point (Arma 2): Had a ton of great concept ideas, with some great items, features, and overall scarier atmosphere. However, it made advanced military weapons and loot far too abundant. Combat was a major priority over survival, and it was more geared towards the military crazed crowd that just wanted to shoot cool guns. DayZ 2017: Set years after the outbreak and had a great "The Road" vibe to it. Loot was extremely scarce and survival was top priority. Finding a can of food felt amazing and finding a decent weapon was like Christmas. However it failed due to a lack of content. It was a great survival mod but they made it harsh by simply removing everything that was in Vanilla, which was a horrible idea. The endgame was literally a Lee-Enfield. So many great ideas, put to waste by some horrible decisions. The sad reality of it is that a large portion of the community wants Standalone to reenact some of these horrible decisions as well.. Tagging friends, faction systems, safe zones, spawning in "controlled" territories, massive building operations, sky bases, extreme military weaponry, humanity system, over abundance of loot, online leader-boards, etc. Be patient you guys, soon enough you will be able to mess Standalone up all you want with your mods. In the meantime however, let DayZ stick to its core roots of developing survival and simulation. -

Hikurac replied to Demonio (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
"Faction identification" and "spawn systems for controlled locations"... What? That seems 10x worse than anything stated above. Friendly fire happens fairly often in real life. Typically due to being unable to recognize the persons face or physique quickly enough, and "tagging" would simply detract from that experience. That being said, it would make sense to just implement an enormous facial selection to choose from. This, combined with a massive selection of clothing, and people will have no excuse for shooting their friends on accident. If they do, then the blame will fall completely on them, instead of on DayZ mechanics.
