Player bases and using tank traps as currency

My friend was telling me he plays on a server where tank-traps are harvested and used as in-game currency, with the ability to trade them into admins for stuff such as medical tents, barricades, sandbags, and other ARMA II military obstacles.

Not a complaining thread, not an encouraging thread, just admiring the fact that dayz has that innovative ability to create its own unique playstyle and social ecosystem between players - so interesting!!!

I know for a fact some people will treat certain types of items as in-game currency when the standalone is released, however have you ever heard of this thing happneing before? Any funny quirks in the game that you can relate to the economic/political structure of real life?

I've also seen people attempting to make farms and/or weapon stashes then opening dayz shops on the forum and in game xD

I LOVE THE OPEN-ENDED-NESS OF DAYZ!!

P.S. Rocket, I feel like the scene in 'Step Brothers' where the special sauce is a screenshot of the dayz standalone development. I would REALLY like some of that special sauce.

I like the concept. I think there are alot of people who would like this to be the main part of their game. Id like to see it happen, although not a major feature of the game for me. Its a bit hard to keep this stuff going right now with no protection from hackers etc. I really think in order for this to be working well players need a storage component that can be saved offline IE one tent that can be saved offline so people can't raid it when they are offline.

Actually, I think saving a tent offline could also help the duping aspect of it all. It would simply take the things with you, so no one could take and not save. However there are many other problems to this aswell. I remember some guy in a post wanting people to never log out a server and have their sleeping bodies lying on the ground ahah, now THAT would not work :P
