Awesomeness of the NWAF

Hello guys,

A friend of mine and me, went to the NWAF for the first time (we felt epicness in our blood). As we went there we thought we'll find good gear (holo weapons, ghillies, As50s ). But the only thing we found was a PDW and an AK-74U. I mean that isn't epic gear. Today I logged in again and went through all Hangars, the firestation and the tower I only found ammo for my AKM and ammo for the G17. I killed two players btw.

Were we just unlucky ? Or is the NWAF overhyped?

The NWAF has potential to spawn good weapons but don't expect to find them there. The loot spawns of DayZ are completely fucked and are back to front. You need to visit a few times and don't expect anything great all of the time.

You won't find an AS50 either, they're heli crash only. You can find M107s though, although they're extremely rare.

You were not unlucky, that a regular find, it's just that since you've never been there you would only hear about how awesome it was when DayZ first came out, I the first month like only 10 peopl had been there and founf good weapons, you gotta be very lucky to find nice weapons in the NWAF but you can just sneak trough cherno's and elektro's sniper hills and get 10 AS50 TWS with rangefinders and a ghillie

Your not unlucky, its a commonly raided area. You might just be getting peoples left overs. Don't give up! Also, rotating to Stary Sabor and raiding the military camp there and then heading back to the NWAF works

Thanks for your fast replies. But i wont give up, we are armed well. We just went there because it's a you-have-to-be-there place in DayZ (my opinion). Whats the next place of this kind?

The higher tier weapons can be found at heli crash sites. You should also check out Stary Sobor while your out there. Lotsa good loot can be found.

OP enjoy the time where going to the NWAF is an epic event. That is what Dayz is in one part of you enjoying it. Keep after it, the loot is there, just some rarer then others. Focus on server restarts if you are going to pursue looting it. I won't say much more as it will ruin DayZ for you.

I hate to ask, but did you go to the barracks? the 2 barracks have the most and best loot

alright, shit happens. I made the trip with a buddy once that had never been there. I was talking up it up like we were gonna find all types of l33t loot. we made the trip on foot from Zelen. then when we got there, there was no loot spawning at all. even after going all the way around to get to the other barracks. it was pretty much heart breaking. I'm not sure what the deal was (like I said we made the trip on foot from Zelen, so it's not like we just spawned there), but there was other weirdness like zeds just standing around

I mean basically there's no guarantees. if I make the trip all the way up there and don't find anything good. I usually try to stay in that area, and return to try again

Could perhaps be some kind of server problem too. I tried a private hive the other day and when first entering a town there would be no loot, no loot as in nothing at all, no whiskey bottles or tin cans even. Other players were complaining about it as well so instead of leaving I'd just stick around a while and sure enough the loot started to appear. The NWAF is so large so if you do a circle around it, there will be time and distance enough (too close and no new loot will appear) to spawn new loot.

That's one thing I like with the NWAF: it's size. First time I was confused cause "ok, there's a hangar but where were the tents? did I miss the tents? ok nvm the tents then."

yep, it seems to happen when the server is pretty full, and/or needs to be reset. but like I said, in my example we went all the way around to the other side and there was still no loot

but the OP was saying there was ammo and such around, so that's a different issue. basically that's just bad luck. plus he did find an ak74u. most of the time when I go to the barracks I only find basic stuff like that

The nwaf run is cool the first time you do it though as you are generally keyed up, going on a low pop server takes away a lot of the thrill as on at least med to high pop will have some action up there.First time i went there i was shot in the hangars, had not even started looting. Took me three days to get up there as i checking every spot on the way up and taking my time waltzing around and getting lost in the bush etc, then bang. I was sorta shocked as it was my very first attempt at a long lived char.

The top barracks are the only place i have ever found legit nvg's . Have found M16 acogs, m4a1cco, m4a3 cco, m14aim, coyotes etc at the bottom barracks as well as pretty much else that they spawn but heli crashes are better for getting equipped faster and make sure you hit all the deer stands on your way around the map.

they can be equally disappointing. even worse in some ways, since you gotta go through the trouble to find them, but then there could still be no (good) loot. I used to get so excited when I found one. now I know chances are there's only gonna be a FAL with no clips <_<

I've been to the NWAF at least 30 times, sometimes solo and sometimes with friends or my clan.

Usually we just find common military weapons (AKM, AK-74, M16 etc.), Though there's the occasional awesome loot. The best single raid I've ever had was with my clan, I found a Mk 48 (A scoped camo print M249), NVG's and a silenced M4, while one of my friends found a DMR and SMG.

It just takes time and luck to get good gear. Once you have some decent gear, you should look for a vehicle and just travel from NWAF to Stary Sobor and back, usually the one will respawn it's gear while you're looting the other one.

The airfield was probably already looted. That's all. I also found a M107  and a M4A1 Holo in a vehicle, it was a HUMVEE or whatever it is. So its a good idea to check vehicles as well. Heli's don't usually carry much. But always check the barracks. Just make sure there is no-one waiting to ambush you.
