Because people are jumping off lighthouses when they don't spawn near their buddies.I imagine at some point he's looked at the stats (I'm guessing he's too busy to get much play time in) It's clearly not giving an accurate view of things.it's a real shame too. I forget how much nicer it is in private hives and accidently join a public hive server. Then abruptly go back to private hives.
