Does Dayz work on Arma II or do I need Arma II: OA to make it work?

If you already have Arma 2, then yes, you only need Operation Arrowhead. When you have both, run them as "Combined Arms".

I also suggest owning the other DLC's (BAF and PMC) that give better textures to certain stuff.
