Waiting for character to create. And waiting. And waiting.

I was playing for a couple hours last night and DayZ wasn't acting up at all. I can join servers fine, and the game doesn't actually freeze; it just doesn't go past the "Waiting for character to create" screen. I have the latest Arma 2:OA patch, and the latest DayZ version. I've tried several servers, they're all the same. I don't really get why this is happening, because the waiting for character to create screen goes away really fast when you already have a character, which I do right now (I am not in-between death and respawning at the moment)

Anybody know how to fix this issue?
