Battleye Crash? Please Help

Recommended Posts

I have an obscure problem with Battleye whilst running Arma2OA or the Dayz mod. I have been able to use Arma2OA for the last 2 months until the 1st of October I believe.

If I am loading onto a server whilst my Battleye is being initialized/updated in game, I am able to connect for maybe 1-20 seconds til Battleye is initialized and them I receive an error message for Arma2OA.exe error and my game crashes to desktop. I can confirm from other players that I am not receiving a global ban or anything like that and I get no in game kick message myself.

If Battleye initializes whilst I am in the lobby, the game will crash during the last 20% or so of the loading bar, again returning me to my desktop.

I have tried every suggestion I have found online, including reinstalling Arma and Battleye and using the lastest versions of the Arma beta and earlier versions, including earlier versions of DayZ. I am able to play Arma2 online, but not Arma2OA with or without mods installed. I have tried deleting battleye completely and re-installing manually and via arma beta patches, I'm nearly at the end of my rope with this.

My specs are:

Xp Home, service pack 3

Asus Quad Core

ATI 4800 Series

Direct X 9c

4gb ram

The error signature states:

AppName: arma2oa.exe AppVer: 1.62.97.771 ModName: arma2oa.exe

ModVer: 1.62.97.771 Offset: 002b88e8

Microsoft event viewer says:

Faulting application arma2oa.exe, version 1.62.97.771, faulting module arma2oa.exe, version 1.62.97.771, fault address 0x002b88e8.

Good bug report :) I see exactly the same behaviour. I'd add that if I connect to a non-BE server (change filter prefs to make sure), then I have no problems at all.

In my case, the error is "Unhandled exception 0x80000003 at address 0x6b88dd (thread 0009); 0x006b88dd: int $3". My situation is slightly different, as I'm running it under Wine, but it was fine up until 1.17[67]. In that version, BE started to hook into the scripting engine with breakpoints (which is what the "int $3" assembler instruction is), and presumably something to do with this isn't working. Perhaps the interrupt handler isn't installed in time?

I fear there's not a lot we can do about it, short of emailing the crash reports to BE and hoping they find the cause. See http://battleye.com/support.html and be very polite :)

Sent an e-mail to the battleye folk. Got a very swift reply and sent them some files. Will post findings!

Nobody got anything like this happening to them?

I am nearly certain it is battleye, I can play on non battleye arma2OA and DayZ servers.

I run a server on the public hive, I am becoming very tempted to turn battleye off and lock the server to my squad mates. This is BS of the highest order, considering that well get us blacklisted.

I also sent an email and got a very helpful reply. In my case, it seems that it's a missing wine feature (interested Linux / wine users see http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31910), so I'm stuck on non-BE servers until the wine guys sort it out. Oh well, at least it's good to know what the problem is and BE was very helpful in providing the info they did.

Best of luck getting your issue sorted too :) It might be worth trying temporarily disabling anything that might interfere with exception handling / interrupts (e.g. antivirus/antimalware/debuggers). Obviously turn it back on ASAP after testing!

Good to hear, like you said, at least you know what the problem is. Still a bit in the dark here.

Atm my pc is like an open balsa wood fort, I can't conceive of anything interrupting battleye unless some random permission or something has been changed. Tried running OA with nothing but the basic necessary windows programs running and still nothing.

Hello there.

A friend of mine is having the same issue, using Windows 7 (not Linux). He can get in servers without BE activated, but can´t in the ones with it.

I feel a bit guilty, because I conviced him to buy the game, and now this...

Arma II works just fine, and even the OA single player missions work fine. But when it comes to multiplayer in OA, it crashes and freezes the whole PC (needing then a manual reboot). Same thing happens to DayZ.

Help much appreciated.

It was a malicious rootkit for me, some asshole malware/virus. I don't particularly understand but I think it was interfering with how certain programs accessed networking features and thus stopped Battleye from working properly. Nothing I had could detect and remove it apart from Kaspersky's Anti-rootkit utility TDSSKiller. After using that, it worked again.

I'd recommend scanning for viruses ect, if nothing comes up maybe use the Kaspersky thing. I justpicked that program as I thought they're a legit company, no doubt there are others. Ofc be careful what kind of stuff you download.

Failing that contact Battleye. They were pretty interested in the issue I had and the rootkit was a suggestion made by one of their staff after many emails and info send back and forth. I guess sometimes they can be very busy, but I've not seen customer support as good for any other game or game related program.

Thanks a lot for your answer! That maybe in fact be the problem. He has an Arma II no-CD version before (yes, a pirated one), wich he got to try Dayz in some no-CD servers. After that, as i said, I convinced him to buy Arma II CO in Steam (12,49 euros for 2 great games, plus a lot of mods to play is a really good deal, even with the standalone almost in the hands of the first testers). Im starting to think that something maybe wrong in his registry.

He is formatting his PC today, and reinstall everything and see if that works. If not, I´ll contact BattleEye as you suggest.

I´ll tell you if something works, so more people can resolve their issues.

Thanks a lot.

EDIT: The weird thing is, Arma II works fine on multiplayer and single player. But OA only works in single player and servers without BE.
