How fast internet would you need for a public server

First i want to say that iv got 5mbps, so i KNOW its not enough, anyways i want to ask how much would be recommended for a public server :)

Also heard that its a bit CPU related the lag, so my 3770k would be fine i guess

Also, what if i just sat up a server for me and some friends, would that require much?

5 Mbps up? That would sustain 10+ people easy.
