Havent played in months- WTF is with the servers?

Recommended Posts

Hey folks- So I dropped out of the game for a month and a bit. No makarov! awesome.

But someone explain to me what happened to the servers? Whats all this private hive nonsense, cheat/hacking etc etc... I joined a server and it gave me a machine gun?

Someone tell me how to find the "real" servers please

I just wanna play some day z :(

You can see wether a server is connected to a hive or not with DayZ Commander. Useful program.

welcome to the new world of dayz.. hackers galore, Rocket doesn't do anything anymore etc etc. Lets hope dayz standalone is worthwhile once it releases in december.. Hardly anyone plays DayZ anymore, we had over a million players then bam now there are hardly any within months. Such a drastic population change in such short time.

I did quit this game months ago, reason for this:

  • Hackers everywhere
  • Game is only about PVP (Did play 2 Hours now, didnt even Survive more then 5 Minutes, i get instant killed from anyone, i do not even have items)
  • Snipers everywhere
  • Hackers
  • More hackers
  • Even more hackers.

Thats DayZ.

I hopen The War Z will not be such a cheater game, rocket isnt doing anything on his mod, the game was once nice months ago before the hacker wave started, now its just a crap game in my eyes.

It is getting worse every time i log in. no i can't even play . i end up unconsious everytime i log in and i cannot use the ingame controls.

have tried several servers, is this is the way it goes, Dayz wil day a slow death, everyone will lose interest before the standalone is out.

The idea of Dean is nice to have a open field for players to decide what to do, but when u get overrun with COD idiots who are still in their diapers, than u know a normal game will not happen. u have to lock it down.

there have been many changes, I recommend you getting familiar with dayz commander and find servers from there.

on a side note: there are still players enjoying the game, including me, you just need to not read the forums too much

Makarov was taken out months ago. Private hives equals less hackers, but in general they seem to be less frequent over the last month or so on most servers. Maybe they have all gone back to BF3 since armored kill was released. Having said this I bet I die to to a hacker in the next couple of Dayz. yolo.

Seriously do you have any idea what is going on in this community right now or have you not been listening to what hall has been working on?

If you have then you would know he cannot fix the hacking in the mod, its impossible. It can be locked down in standalone, which is why their team is working 24/7 to get it done before end of 2012.

He is in the transition of letting the mod community take control of the game to work together in developing the mod. He cant work on the mod and the game, it doesnt work that way.

The mod was never intended for more then just his friends to play in the first place. So stop complaining, your not a designer or developer.

Listen to his plans and shut the fuck up with saying hes not doing anything, Its people like you that destroy this community.

I was in the same boat. Quit playing about 8 weeks ago once I had a fully kitted player and got bored (after 75+ hours of playing I should note). However, download Day Z Commander and it will provide links to 3 new maps you can play that really add some new excitement for those of us who had already memorized the best loot points on the original. Plus its a fantastic program for sorting through the 5k servers now listed.

I'm not 100% sure on the private hives and how they work except that Rocket used to be against them but changed his mind because they are much easier to administer, keep hackers at bay, and decrease the load on the central server. They can set their own rules though I've found most stick to the vanilla Day Z starter kit. Sometimes you'll come across one that gives you a starting weapon.

I believe the catch is you're character won't be linked across servers, so if you want to continue that character you'll only be able to do so from that private hive server.

Anyways, welcome back. :)

Private Hive servers are THE way to go right now. I've been playing on a wonderful one that's always near full (40 player cap) during its daylight hours and even has a few sneaking around at night. I have yet to come across a hacker in the weeks I've been on it and can now comfortably play with a large population of players without worrying about the server being a juicy target for a nuke.

The players are all diverse and awesome. You have plenty of trust worthy guys and known bandits. As well as the guys who just play in the back without saying a word. Its filed nightly with regulars and new players. I would highly suggest finding yourself a private hive to call home.

Not sure if trolling or retarded.

Rocket's busy working on the standalone, and rightly so. If I'm gonna pay for it then I want it to be good. Apparently your entitled arse is too short-sighted to see past the mod... And a lot of people haven't actually left DayZ, we're hiding from hackers in private hives, making he numbers on the main hive statistics drop.

And a small number of us, small but here, have quit due to recent changes making the game unplayable for people with disabilities. The way the UI works now is very inconvenient for colorblind people, so my crew has moved onto greener pastures since 2 of the 5 of us are colorblind.

We're hoping the standalone is more friendly to people with disabilities. I saw a thread about a partially deaf person having a hell of a time playing these days thanks to the cod kiddies, and lack of people to play with.

In the meantime, I've gone back to other games my buddies and I played before DayZ since those games are more friendly to colorblind players. Waiting to see what comes of DayZ.

Oh, and the fact that we can't host it on our Linux box doesn't help matters at all.

The standalone will feature a complete UI overhaul mate, I'm sure you'll be able to play without problems...

It is kind of funny as I think red/green is the most common form of colour blindness. A colour blind UI option wouldnt go a miss. Can you not just flick the debug menu on for a sec to check your blood level though? That's what I do anyway. The food/drink icons flash for 10 minutes before they start draining your blood so I can't see them being a problem. :S

Yes, yes, we all know Rocket is no longer human but a god, who is wired to a machine, working 24/7 to develop his new standalone game, and cannot do anything at all about h*ckers - oh and you forgot to mention, "it's an alpha" so every flaw is entirely acceptable and no one should ever feel remotely frustrated.

None of which means that forum members have to "shut the fuck up" because you don't happen to like their opinions. Freedom of speech goes both ways and is essential to a healthy community and your comments, pvtjace, have made this usually positive and strong dayz supporter feel quite the opposite today. So perhaps you should think about what you're trying to do because you've had the opposite effect on me. You can't convince people of an arguement if all you do is shout at them while spewing the official chant.

To those returning to dayz, welcome home guys! There are still thousands of servers - yes, literally thousands, and you can look at the server list at any time of day and find servers that are full of players. All of whom are loving dayz just as much as ever. Yes there are h*ckers but so what. Grit your teeth and avoid them.

To play in official dayz servers there is no need for dayzcommander (in fact dayzcommander is a pain in the ass for this because it doesn't differentiate between the official servers and the "dayz chernarus" other hives' servers - and I'm a big fan of dayz commander, use it daily but when I look for dayz servers I just use the game server list). Just use the ingame server list and sort by Mission by clicking on it. That will show you the dayz and the "dayz chernarus" servers. dayz are the official ones, as far as I've experienced.

Edit: Oh and I forgot to add: another benefit of free expression in this place is, should one of the standalone-dayz developers ever become blind drunk, or suffer major head damage, or by some other means, happen to find themselves here, reading threads, it is the best place for concentrated honest views on the significance of impact that flaws can have on a game-as opposed to the usual butt-kissing they see.
