Dedicated server, from my (Home)

Recommended Posts

I have a PC

AMD 1090T x6 4Ghz

16Gig Ram

4x250Gig HDD raid0

that doesn't serve much purpose laying around.

And a 100/100Mbit's connection with no traffic limit.

I want to host a Day Z server.

This server would be Scandinavian/Norwegian.

My setup seems to be more than adequate.

I'm not aware of any rules that restrict hosting servers from home. Please provide a quote and link blergh.

funkake, please read the FAQs and other threads on server hosting. Here's the main one:

You'll need to email the dev team to get a server id, etc.

You don't need to mention that you're hosting from home, only your computer specs. It doesn't matter where the server is as long as it meets the server criteria.

blergh, As far as I am aware there are no restrictions on where the server has to be.

the rules only state no Listen servers. ie. ones you run from in game.

as long as your net and hardware can handle the load. there should be no issue.

the only possible issue Fun is that you need a high quota per month. on the order of a terabite or more per month if your running 50 player servers. not sure about your provider but I would not be surprised if they call you up after a couple of months and ask why your thrashing the bandwidth :D

Yes, you do need to mention where you are hosting, and hosting at home is not allowed.

You should not email, you should just simply hop on the IRC-channel and talk to me, or anyone else dealing with instance ID's.

some countries actually have high upload speeds.

I myself am running a 100/100 connection from my house. it is entirely feasable to run servers from home.

it is not a question of running from home it is a question of upload/download bandwidth.

granted. a home connection... likelyhood it is being shared with the home users general usage means there might be spikes. ect.

but if you read that post. there are a crapload of "mabys" in there simply because this is not always the case.

if you run a company from home and have an industrial grade/corporate bandwidth plan you can easily get 100/100 speeds. sure it cost a crapload. but I think it should be a case by case basis *as long as the owner can prove they have the bandwidth to take it*

Unfortunately it doesn't matter. No home connections are allowed, no exceptions.

The only ones that are still allowed are the ones running business lines, and have had a server way prior to us adding these new rules.
