If you are only going to play DayZ, then wait for standalone.

If you are going to play ArmA as well and do not want to wait for ArmA III, then get it.

I think I might buy Arma 2 guys, because a) I want to also play the Arma 2 game itself and B) when the stand alonhe game comes out I will be able to buy it as weel and c) Arma 2 dayz will help me get prepared for the stand alone game.

2 months till December, thats 15 dollars per month before Standalone is released. Thats good value for money and you'll learn a bunch of skills before the new game.

The mod is free and there will always be server hosts looking to make some money by hosting these servers. Also, I think that many might like the mod more, if standalone is adding things that people don't like, such as puking and weapon-jamming (I am not 100% sure that these are more than rumors, though).

Can't tell if troll, but DayZ mod is free. You pay for Arma II: CO, which is a game in itself.
