Padlock doors

Recommended Posts

Another idea occurred to me so I thought I'd toss it on here for feedback. Padlocking doors. Find a padlock, use it on a closed door, get a key on your toolbelt. Only you can open the door.

To break padlocks you could use a crowbar or find breeching rounds for shotgun. Whatcha think?

Edit to add: (Thought occurred to me, because shotguns kind of suck right now and this would give them a realistic tactical use.)

Would be pretty cool but then almost all buildings need to be enterable.

Why should u be able to lock doors => prevent ppl from getting in the already rare enter-able buildings?

If u thinkin of bunkering down: Future Plans for standalone: Underground "bases" and other constructions

For the stand alone, it is a great idea ot be used on your own subtarrain bunker. Using in the mod, not so good. It would be just like the bardwire IMHO, some kid running around locking up everything because he can; a hacker locking you in a large building wth 15 zombie and you can't get out ...

Of course it would be funny if you broke off someone else lock, replaced it with your own, and he can't get into his own building ... while you lay a few hundred meters away with a sniper rilfe. Just saying ;)

I agree that on Chernarus every door should not be lockable due to low number of lootable buildings anyway, but a few key ones would be neat, like the barracks or the rusty sheet metal barns for storing vehicles as suggested here. Lockable doors on Lingor would make more sense as nearly every building is enterable and it would be cool to lock the door on "your house."

Barbed wire is a whole different story. 1) It causes graphics glitches. 2) It can be placed in a way as to be inaccessible to remove. 3) It respawns on restart. 4) It can be stacked infinitely deep. (<-Edited to add)

Finding breeching rounds or a crowbar should be much easier than finding a toolbox and hitting the sweet spot on barbed wire. Padlocks wouldn't stop anyone, merely slow them down. If you get locked in a building... you're a dumbass for entering a building with only one door. The "using item" animation should be plenty of time for you to run out the back door.

Also, the stocks of several military and police grade shotguns are reinforced, and you could probably bash a lock off after a few attempts. Though, I think I saw bolt cutters in the list of tools perhaps being implemented.

A nice idea though.

what would be the point of locking doos? its hard enough as it is trying to get into a church or hospital when some fuckhead has placed barbedwire in the doorway! and anyway you can use any type of weapon to break a padlock not just a shotgun.....you can also use hatchets to break padlocks not just crowbars

Make barbed wire only usable if it doesn't intersect with any structure.

I like the idea of padlocks, but only if they can be broken the same way you can break them in real life. This was the biggest problem with barbed wire -- they took away the ability to use your hatchet to cut through them which made no sense.

This idea may need to wait for base structures, but I really like shotgun breeching rounds.

well you could just shoot it with a .50 cal rifle, Not only will the padlock break, but there will no longer be a door in your way.
