map maker

Recommended Posts

this is an idea for a world builder which would work like far cry 2 editor mode

the map maker would work like this. player goes to main menue and presses edit mode. player chooses a desert starting point or a jungle starting point or a woodland starting point. player zooms around map placing houses trees bunkers and zombies and placing spawn points for other players. the player builds a large underground armoury with racks of ak47's and grenades and boxes of magazines. player makes a large safezone that is infested with the infected. the player zooms around the map another time and places a few cans of beans in a grocery store and so on so on

i think this idea is original because i searched for it in the search box but if it has been used please dont flame

I'd prefer a map maker with a terrain creator, that would keep me busy for years. It is pretty intense now to create one.

I used to do to do to make and edit missions with Delta force, Farcry and a few others, way I see it, if you do your own stuff you won't be dissapointed with the overall results.

Me and my friends used to spend hours in my maps compared to stock ones. but the benefits of huge maps are you can wander them till your heart is content and as an explorer, Dayz maps offer me 2 month max of enjoying each map.

I would love it for Rocket released a map editor without having to be programmer friendly like N.I.L.E was for DF.

Meh...

As good as the FarCry 2 map maker was, the game blew. I much rather enjoyed the two first FarCrys on the Xbox which had great editors too, but a better community. I litterally was attached to both of those FarCrys for a 2 years straight +. It was such a wide verity of play with that map maker. Obstacles, sweet maps, or you could even make a map and add rules to make your own type game. I have "Border Patrol". Half was desert (Looked like Mexico) With a real life like border and than a small town. It was really fun, but I'll spare you the details.

Good times, good times.

Later!

Yep, the orginal Terraineditor from ARMA, because.....if MapMaking is to simple then we have 1.000.000 Maps with crap quali.

Only people that have real passion in mapmaking take the time to lern the ArmaEditor. And those are the ones that bringing good maps like Lingor Island.

And the other thing is that the Dev Team from DayZ don´t lose time to change the entire MapMaking thing!

btw. i am not a map maker but i wish would ;)

Yeah they really don't need a bunch of maps going around. It can be horrible when it's a PC game, especially one like Arma II. With an Xbox game like with the FarCry Xbox version, it helped keep the maps in a nice list with an okay rating system and what not. (PC version probably was the same, and wouldn't it take space on Armas server to have a ton of maps or would it be like Counter Strike where the maps are just located on the players computer?) They could do it, but as mentioned above me, why when they already have a map maker made.

if it was randomly generated then there could be a house in the middle of the sea pr an entire forest on top of a house if there was a map editor players could build massive hideouts or tropical islands infested with zombies

Unless they made the "random generated maps" puts city like formations in certain terrain areas and on n' on. Could also not allow it to spawn certain structures/models in the water area. It would not put a tree where a house is and it may put a few cabins in the mix of trees that are also spawned randomly, and they're doing it right!

Don't Hate!

Random Generate!

Well this map editor/maker would be ok, if the maps were controlled somehow... Would be so annoying to find nice server when there is stupid maps that people make, like on custom maps for CS... omg..

I would like them to keep public side maps authentic to the real world like cher is now..

The MapMaking thing in ARMA2 is good as it is because it is not simple.

Not simple to handle is a easy way of quality control. Then there is no need for personnel control. ;)

Make it simple then you have alot of people making crap maps.

Hopefully, Dev Team don´t change the way of MapMaking!!!

This ^^

The number of shit maps in Portal 2 since they released the map maker isn't even funny. Most of the Hammer ones were really good before that, lol.

No.

If only because I see further.

Procedural engines with special seed protocols, making for the creation of maps to be more randomized but easily recognizable by another client's point of view without requiring a big file download to recreate.

Mix

with

and a few other algorithms...

I disagree, on the amount of maps and issues they bring forth. DayZ is based on Arma 2, Arma 2 has a lot of stuff including maps. If people were savy enough to edit / modify / create maps you would have a community that attracted more people to the fold. This in turn would be like giving beans to people for good attempts / Ideas.

Most communities have good and bad material, you could easily add a search function with community votes on what people agreed was good and bad. That way you could cater for what you like and not everything under the sun. If Vilayer release the 13 other maps they are working on (working on being the key word, IMO Fallujah was rushed and ruined) then the community who host the servers will host what their community wants. Nothing wrong with choice is there?

Looking at the map making, it should not be easy, but achievable with a bit of knowledge (Which there is a load of) People will release less than par maps but this is a form of expression that I would welcome.

As it stands I dont see the Devs ever releaseing a map maker as simple as we would like, you open up the possibility for the SA and other engine related stuff to be abused, and we DO NOT want that.

A simple map maker - the simpler the better - so many can make maps. A system must then be made to weed out bad maps, and award good maps - and maybe have them appears as standard maps. Simple as that.

Thus people can enjoy their own maps in a simple way, while good maps can be enjoyed by more.

i dont get a word of what you are saying michael.................i just thought it would be good if you could build maps like far cry 2. map looks like shit? no problem go to another map. dont like player made maps? go to an ordinary chernarus/lingor/takistan/utes map.

i know rocket has said that he wants to add player made mods to dayz in the future but if you have to fiddle around with files and such. its easier if you can just go into a far cry 2 style editor mode and place trees buildings cars road blocks docks and such and such. or else maybe cry engine 3 maps could be ported onto dayz
