Strongholds/Bases/Safe Areas - Smartphone Alarm Systems App

Recommended Posts

I know that in one way or another this has been discussed in varying degrees. This is suggested more for the standalone project likely as I don't know if it would be possible in the mod. But I know Rocket is trying to figure out a way to build underground shelters and the like for players.

What I was thinking was a way of securing area's so that the Zeds stop respawing or pushing the respawn outside of that stronghold. Something that ties in with the idea of the wirefencing and sandbagging idea that allows for a player to attempt to horde more goodies. This could be dependent on more tasks that become available in the game of course, The more things we can do as solo or clan players, the more things we'll need to find to survive and achieve.

I get that this game is about Survival, but after a certain level of surviving and attaining rare weapons and gear, a player wants to start limiting the risks and think about striving. In my case I've found the M107 sniper rifle with enough ammo to keep me busy, but my options are limited now as to what I can do in game that serve my own interests, so now I've turned to hunting players as I have all the tools that allow me to carebear in the wilderness. I play with a very limited number of other trusted players and we do what other clans do, try to find rarer stuff, but when solo, I've run out of things to achieve and shoot other players trying to get ahead just for shits and giggles. Not cool I know.

So, my idea is to provide ways to secure campsites, houses, towns even. As part of the terrain when coming into a town players see roads that have been fortified with junk. What about making the "junk" a tool in the game, (like the tank traps). Pile enough junk around an area and it becomes a safe zone. Zombies spawns will be pushed out of those secured areas. Add Nails and hammers, saws, welding equipment to the game as tools used to reinforce houses and buildings or campsites in the wilderness. I was even imagining a way to build a sort of surveillance system in the game, like a CCT surveillance with a gas genie that needs constant refueling. These can be deployed and somehow tie it to a smart phone app that lets you know when your base is being infiltrated by other players. This way your loot stays available in game to other players but ads to the paranoia of gamers offline. Not sure if that can even be done these days as I'm not a programmer, But maybe this app could provide a countermeasure that deploys a trap that can only be activated once until you reload it in game.

A large clan could easily secure a small town depending on the amount of junk scavenged from across the wasteland. Turning scrap vehicles into steel sheathing requires a welding torch and a vehicle to carry it. A gate can be built that can only be opened from the inside. Add ladders to the game to climb the walls or use your hatchet with nails and hammer to build a ladder. Various simple and complex countermeasures can be deployed from say; "empty tin cans and string" to "beartraps tied to shotguns" to "m240's tied in with closed circuit TV run on a gas generator" each allowing a player with a smart phone to know if their stronghold is being compromised whether in game or not.

Anyway. Just brainstorming. I love the game and the concept of the minecraft model, develop as you go. I look forward to the possiblilty of being able to do some of these things in game.

Best, Sled.

This is some good ideas! Im sure rocket will figure out some awesome ideas that wont be impossible to implement in standalone.

This a actually a great idea in theory. It is also a crossover in a way and would be quite cool to use a smartphone to interface with a game while you're at work. But, I don't think we need alarm systems that alerts you when you are offline. Get your buddy to call you. I'm pretty sure the consensus is that there is no power in dayz, save a generator you would have to keep fueled.

I find this a pretty good idea but I agree to a degree with mister SheriffHD even though the way he voices his opinion raises some questions.

Being able to fortify streets and houses seems like a nice alternative to building underground bases.

It gives people stuff to do and allows the creation of strongholds/bases protected by people. (And this is something that happens in just about every other zombie movie/serie that I see, so why not?)

The issue that it raises is preventing zombies from spawning, which is a legitimate concern that I share with SheriffHD.

An issue that could be solved easily by creating 'zones' when walled in completely with just a few entrance points that have doors or gates a zone shall be created.

Within this zone, no loot or zombies will spawn as long as a player is inside this zone. As soon as the last player leaves the zone and maybe two hours have passed the walls will deteriorate and after four hours some walls and barricades will be broken down and the zone stops to exist, allowing the spawning of zombies and items once more.

The barricades continue to deteriorate until a player moves nearby.

Once all walls and barricades are fixed the zone will be restored and no new zombies or loot will spawn.

Why should this happen? Zombies roam free without people shooting the zombies so the zombies start hitting barricades to damage them.

(This should also happen occasionally when players are inside.)

If you want to create a safe-zone it should be hard to maintain the bigger you make it. Players need to guard it at all times.

EDIT:

This should take a lot of materials such as wooden boards, nails, metal sheets and other spare parts. Once can also use barbed wire and other fencing tools to increase fortification. Maybe even pile up some trash against the barricade to make it even more firm.

and for those of us with out smartphones?

This is similar to a situation in a game called ogame (ogame.org) where other players can attack your stuff in a persistant game environment. Some players use a bot client (im not a tech guy, nor a "cheater" so my lingo is probably off) to save all of their stuff remotely, or at least alert them when an attack is coming.

It's BS and takes away the point of well timed attacks on your lewt pile.

I think some sort of Base/Campsite system is already planned.. My idea was to have keys made for the bases and the only way to enter them is via Key.. So if someone kills you while carrying that key and they find that base.. they could potentially go in and steal things.
