Possible Alt-F4 Abuse Solution

Recommended Posts

Disclaimer:

This is my first forum post, and I've no interest in flame wars. Just trying to contribute some constructive ideas for the devs in an organized manner.

D/C Abuse :

Apparently a big deal (haven't seen it myself), so assuming these ideas can be implemented within the constraints of the Arma 2 engine :

1) Make Alt-F4 an actual unalterable game keybind like the ESC key. Call it the 'Wussy' command key or something. When a player Alt-F4s, they drop their primary gun, backpack, and ghillie suit (if so equipped) and leave the game. In the game, this represents them panicking, dropping their gear and fleeing like a little girl [insert French soldier joke here]. If the cheater was trying to avoid death to another player, the opposing party is then free to take the gear the coward has now dropped.

2) When said coward logs back in, respawn them in some random location. This simulates them fleeing without care or thought where they are heading, finally stopping and not knowing where they ended up. If they have a compass and/or map, maybe they can figure it out....This should also solve the problem of players who use this exploit to server-hop into a better position for ambush or back-stabbing. They can't do it if they wind up on the other side of the map.

3) On re-spawn, skin 'em in a white T-shirt and boxer shorts with hearts, or something equally embarrassing; maybe granny panties for the females..... I'm sure the design team could come up with something. This simulates the fact they weren't wearing much under the ghillie, or the bushes and branches shredded their other clothes as they fled. Who needs to bother with cheating reports on the forums when public ridicule will do the job. I imagine the reports of "I saw so-and-so running around in their undies" both entertaining and confirmation of the cheating. The cheater's new priority would be to find new clothes, so I assume spawning more skins would need to be looked into if the devs wanted to show mercy.

Possible problems to this idea that I can think of :

* Don't know if the devs can even implement the alt-F4 bind in the Arma engine.

* Valid Alt-F4 situations like phone calls, answering the door, etc. Maybe post a warning confirmation that the player needs to disconnect from the server through the normal means.

* Game lock-ups. I know this happens often, especially in the development cycle, and innocent players shouldn't be punished for it. Can the game differentiate between crashes and Alt-F4s?

* After reading many of the posts in these forums, I have a sneaky suspicion that many players would Alt-F4 just to run around in their underwear. That's a whole other can of worms......

The fix for players who D/C to avoid death through the normal ESC/Disconnect has been discussed ad nauseum (timers, etc), so I'll leave that alone.

I hope I've brought a new idea to the table here. Feel free to point out any problems, or share other/better ideas, just keep the discussion organized and on track so that maybe it can be of help to the devs.
