Beta builds, what are they?

Alright so I think this is a good thread to finally start. I have checked the forums for a while and have yet to see someone fully state and/or teach players what the beta builds are and how to get them/install them. I myself am one of the many users who do not understand what they are, and with the upcoming update requiring them, I feel like it's appropriate to ask. Could someone out there please be kind enough to elaborate on the subject and teach us lowly peons what the hell a beta build is?

Im a noob too, but if you search Arma 2 beta into google, you get this site -

Basically they are newer versions of the game, that are kinda experimental. You can download any one from that list, it has an automatic installer, and comes with some readme files. If you look through the server list in the actual game, they usually state which version they support, they are all numbered.

I'm currently running the 1.6093616 version (IfIRecallCorrectly), because I saw alot of servers run it, though lately the next patch up, ending in 666 is taking over.

Anyways, pick which ever one is madatory, when the time comes. It may take some tweaking to get the beta patch working, for example after I installed the patch, I had some problems, which was the shortcut was abit weird, as you have to go into your steam folder, and copy and paste the "Run Arma2 OA Beta patch" shortut, to somewhere like your desktop once you install it.

The only diff I noticed is that the game seems more reliable (once im already in, it doesnt start up properly every now and again). There are youtube videos to help on the matter etc too. Hope that made some sense.

It's easy to install. Did you know that you can run the STEAM version directly from the game folder? After you install the beta patch go to your arma game directory and clink on "Launch Arma2OA Beta".

Dayz not running? From the games main manu select 'Explansions' and select @DayZ. Click ok te restart the game with DayZ enabled.
