nzcanucksteven@gmail.com 23 Posted September 24, 2012 (edited) Thoughts on admins ability to shut down a server ? Its not technically locking it. And i've quickly gone over the rules which mention a ban/whitelist server if shut down due to a death / car is stolen ect. But not of shutting it down when there is no players online (and thats any player, clan member or otherwise).Only reason I ask - we are planning to start up a server and have been discussing if this is... or isn't against the rules. If someone can link me to the page / pages which mention this that would be appreciated as for some reason the Dayz Forums seem to be rather laggy for me recently. Before you all rage about unfair advantage of shutting down a server to protect gear - I totally understand. The server isnt running yet but will be in a few days. I believe the reason (dont quote me on this) for considering shutdown if no-one is online is due to costs (we would be leaving the server on 8AM - 3AMish seven days a week regardless and shutting down if empty for the 5 or so hours in-between, or thats the plan). In other words, plenty of time while we are all at work to raid our carefully hidden tents.Note - im not the admin. Just one of the clan members looking for clarification on this rule. BelMarduk 169 Posted September 24, 2012 How would cost be an issue? If you're running the server on your (or your friends) personal computer e.g. not hosted by a service, then why not just run it as a private hive server and not worry about 'the rules'. If you are wanting it to be on the hive, then yes it eould be against the rules (if not specifically, then implied)
nzcanucksteven@gmail.com 23 Posted September 24, 2012 I believe that our server is hosted at one of the clan members IT companies and its all part of being green and clean, saving power ect and all that bullshit. - Again im not the admin so that may not be 100% correct. We have been looking into private hives. We decided against it as we have been playing dayz for awhile and will move all our gear from other servers onto it. Also trying to get traffic to server, we thought that having a private hive may restrict that? Iuno.
BelMarduk 169 Posted September 24, 2012 Kinda silly here really. You have zero specifics on the relevant issues to your question... yet are asking the question...
