My character restarted?

So I joined a random server, US 2562 I think, and my character was suddenly standing in an open field with no equipment on me and it said I was killed on the instant of me joining the server. I've tried joining different servers since then and am just on the coast like I actually died, but I have no starting equipment.

So has anyone heard of this? is this a hack or something server specific, and can I possibly get my gear back?

Any response would be greatly appreciated.

It's gone forever. You might have died loading it or bugged out in another way.
