zak757 146 Posted June 13, 2012 Does anybody have a problem with picking up rare guns over good guns? I was in Stary Sobor with 5 AKM mags I had found at Balota in my pack, expecting to find one. I didn't like the AKM for the noise/recoil/awkward iron sights, but it kills like none other. I found one of course, and had 6 mags in my inventory, or 180 shots. But along the way, I found an M24. Oooh! Shiny! I pick it up and leave my effective and utilitarian rifle behind for arguable the worst sniper option in the game. I only have 10 shots with it, and taking my skills into account, only 6 kills. With the AKM, I could have gotten 60 kills. Ammo for the M24 is quite rare, sadly. Considering that my sidearm remains a shitty Makarov, I'm not doing too good for myself here and I have no CQC ability and I'm not very prepared for zombies.I accidentally glitched through a catwalk and fell and broke my legs and started bleeding. I am down to 3000 blood and in need of a bloodpack. Even if I find a player trustworthy enough for a transfusion, there is always the chance he might have the same problem as me and kill me for my "very rare" gun.Anybody else have this problem? i wub pugs 16 Posted June 13, 2012 The CZ is still the best sniper rifle. Whatever it lacks in accuracy/punch it more than makes up for with plentiful ammo.Winchester is still the best anti-zed weapon due to plentiful ammo and punch.I have an M4A3 and I had a Kobra to go with it. Grinding for guns is basically what you do at the NWAF and I'm done with that.Really, I got more fun out of shooting people with the Enfield because of the skill required and the power. Using an assault rifle is kinda meh.1911 is still the best weapon in the game imo.

Yes, it can't be zero'd, but it is predictable and can be used with NVG's if you're lucky enough to find them.IMO - DMR > CZ. But personal preference, why not :)
WalkerDown (DayZ) 296 Posted June 13, 2012 The AKM is possibly the best rifle in the game, since the zombie aggro can be handled pretty easy (when it happens). Magazines are all around, the power is higher than any other assault rifle.I left it ONLY for the M4 SD .. because of the silencer, but for the rest you don't need anything else.So yes: rare doesn't mean better. But sometime you find cool stuff and you say: WOW I WANT TO USE THIS .. it's more like about your brain, not because it "works" better.
walrus2517 27 Posted June 13, 2012 As someone who rarely visits the military loot areas I've still come across a few rare weapons, and I've passed them by each time. Unless you play with a group that has a nice ammo cache already it just doesn't seem worth it.I agree with I WUB PIGS. Give me a Winchester or a CZ so I'm not counting my rounds. The AKM is nice but too loud unless you are just going for a high zed tally.
rhennigan 2 Posted June 13, 2012 When I find a rare weapon, I'm more concerned about how it makes me a more desirable target. This isn't the type of game where you want to show off your cool loot; that just makes someone want to kill you for it.
Greasymullet 7 Posted June 14, 2012 I love the m24 because of how insanely accurate it is, but I also play in groups so I can understand how you wouldn't like it playing solo. That said DMR is the best all around sniper. Pretty good accuracy and damage, coupled with plentiful ammo, 20 round mags, and semi auto action.
Hostile (DayZ) 0 Posted June 14, 2012 Yesterday, after dying due to fall from some castle wall >.> with my "neat" NWA gear and dying horribly by bloodloss, I've decided to try a weapon I have never used before, instead of farming the gear from the NW Airfield. So I picked up the Enfield, after killing 3 guys near northen Elektro fire station, I fall in love with that little loud gun. It's so powerful and so accurate it's just too good to waste my time trying to get something from deep inland locations. I prefer it over AKM or M4, as I can rely on other secondary weapons, such as PDW (Uzi) for mowing down bigger waves of stupid and glitchy zombies.Enfield is one of the most common weapons, at least it's ammunition, thus I can easily resupply myself in nearest barn or some village.Ammo for side weapons isn't that hard to get, even for that UZI, and even though, secondary weapon would be used in "Oh-Shit" situations or some CQB against few enemy players, not that you couln't use Enfield anymore, it's still reliable in CQB as most players are most of the time static and waiting for your turn. The only con of it is pretty loud, not a problem though if you can overcome that with sneaking and using secondary weapon. salty (DayZ) 39 Posted June 14, 2012 M24s go in my pack when I find them. There's no way I'd ever replace a primary for a bolt-action sniper rifle with a five round capacity and absurdly rare ammunition.
