To be fair, you should learn the map. It does all look largely similar but I've learnt to recognise different parts of the map after playing many hours of Warfare on Takistan.

If you spawned in Feruz Abad then it would make it even easier to gear up. It only takes 10 minutes to get kitted out as it is.

DayZ commander tells you the current time the server is on in most cases (don't join another who doesn't if you are fresh spawn). Then you should know by general education where the sun is and thus where the North is and where to go.

Maps are very common in Takistan, There is very little off the map so that should help.
