How was your first experiences with the game?

Recommended Posts

First of all, i wanna say i posted this poll in the "new player discussion" part of the forum: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/92649-how-long-do-you-live-in-your-first-lives/

So I would really appreciate if you guys took some time to vote so we can all ebtter understand the "noob" (in general) point of view.

The point of this topic is for everyone to share their first experiences, how long you could survive, your feelings, difficulties, friends or enemies?

I started playing in June. A friend told me about the game after i first heard of the future WiiU game "ZombieU" and i liked the concept of perma death, so i decided to try this game out.

After watching many videos from SideStrafe it got me really excited so i bought Arma 2 and started playing. Because I saw those videos, I knew night was not a good option, so i looked for a day time server, and began my adventures. Back then, we had our makarovs which made it so much easier for noobs to survive, and trully doesn't make a difference for veteran players.

Anyway, i could amange to survive 15 minutes, or above, in thebeggining, as I was shot on sight a few times, but back then we didn't have so many snipers and you could find a lot of friendlies. I made some friendships that last until today, learned how the engine and loot systems worked and quickly got the hang of it and decided to venture north. My first experience in the NWAF was disastrous, as I had no idea that was such a high PVP zone (at least back then) and i lost so much of what I thought was great gear. But that made me wanna paly this even more. Nowadays, unfortunately, that PVP zone moved to Cherno and Elektro and new players don't have the same chance as I did to survive that long...

Please share your experiences!

P.S.: I know there is a topic for Dayz Stories, however this is a more specific topic with the intend of knowing how people FIRST play Dayz.

I spent most of my 1st lives being eaten, too, until I learnt how to navigate around the zombies and learnt the basic building types and layout of the map. it was very frustrating at first, but the game has given me a great deal of enjoyment.

Waiting to get into the game for about 20/25 minutes ( back in April) and having the laugh in side chat with everybody else waiting, just waiting..................

Amazing.. Countless times shooting my friend or getting shot at by him mistaking each other for others. One time I actually ran up to a guy in a tree and sat beside him for a minute til I realized it was the wrong tree and the wrong "buddy" in it. He looked over and shot me with a macaroni then I headshot him with the crossbow.

I started in late April. It was magical. So magical in fact that I had to tell a friend. A friend that I had not spoken to in over a year, about the experience. He ended up picking up the game and we eventually teamed up. We roamed around death after death to places like Stary and NW Air. I remember the first time I found the Stary tents. I didn't even know what they were. Or how dangerous the area could be. I cleared zombies with no concern for what other monsters it might attract. I also hid from players. The adrenaline rush just from that aspect alone, was intense. I was green, obviously. It was fun, though.

Another person joined the ranks and we had a three man team that would play almost nightly for the better part of a month. This is when I started realizing something. Fire fights with other players were exciting and are not to be avoided but nurtured. There is nothing like engaging someone in a standoff. Especially if there is vocal banter between the two parties. Those are the cherished moments.

Around the same time, I was accepted into a great team. Soon, one of my friends from our original group followed. This is where I learned the ins and outs of DayZ. I was still sort of new to the game (about a month and a half in) and didn't really realize then, that your gear doesn't mean shit. Your stats don't mean shit. The game is about experiences. Experiences, that you enjoy. I myself, love the uncertainty of a fire fight. Especially, if I am out numbered and under gunned.

So now, I just mainly avoid zombies and stalk and hunt players. I don't want your gear. I just want to satisfaction of knowing that I outsmarted another person. And, when I do get jacked, no matter if we talked shit or not. I will almost assuredly say... "Good Fight."

That is my DayZ experience.

My first spawn was in Kamenka. After reading the forums/wiki, and watching some YouTube videos I had determined that my first order of business was to find a hatchet. I don't believe I actually found one until my fourth or fifth life, as the zombies kept getting me.

Between learning how the inventory system worked, what buildings could be entered, and the controls I had a pretty rough first few hours. I wasn't killed by a player until I spawned in Elektro.

I played for 6 hours my first day, it was brutal, and I loved every minute of it.

I didn't kill another player for the first few weeks. I had decided to play on low pop servers while I learned the game and familiarized myself with the gear and weapons. After I felt comfortable with the game I started venturing onto high pop servers to play, and began dying regularly again, this time due to players, so the fun factor went up.

I knew there was a somewhat steep learning curve, so I just had to get past it. Other than dying by hacks, every death I have is enjoyable now, not frustrating.
