crush.lv@gmail.com 12 Posted September 18, 2012 So you're out with a group of guys, kicking ass and taking names, nameplates are off, you're raiding the airfield or a town... How do you avoid friendly fire? Everyone's in a ghillie so if a hostile player with a ghillie shows up, people will either miss him or spot him and then shoot a friendly who's in a ghillie as well.I know some people do prone checks and ask on TS before opening fire, but is there a better way to make sure the guy you're about to shoot is actually a hostile and not a friendly? Salute check maybe? In the real world (and ArmA) soldiers have uniforms so that they can be better identified as FOF, but that's not really possible if everyone has the same clothes. Rage VG 4033 Posted September 18, 2012 Agreed, we should have some level of customization that we can change on the fly, which should appear even on a ghillie. I suppose Paying attention to what weapons your teammate is carrying and their position would be all I can suggest.
#Sleepy 572 Posted September 18, 2012 (edited) When I play with my group of friends, and any of us are not sure if another player is us or not we call "Sync" and then the players use Q and E to either roll or wiggle back and forth and when they do that they also call out "Sync". So we know who is who and don't shoot them in ass. Also for customization, the William W. Face Model has Blue/White paint. I think we should be able to change this, might not be much but a color of someones face is some sort of change to determine groups. Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted September 18, 2012 (edited) In Arma characters had place holders so groups could add logos to their arm bands. In DayZ it only works on some vehicles. I'd love to see it integrated into DayZ properly though. Until then you'll just have to rely on good communication. chris_uk 16 Posted September 18, 2012 The group of guys i play with do 3 things, 1. Have the same face skin2. Lean left/right quickly3. Speak on ts to double check.
crush.lv@gmail.com 12 Posted September 18, 2012 Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try using the leaning method with my group. Can't really see face skins at a distance. You wouldn't be able to see squad insignia on uniforms either even if they had them.
CPD - Delithralas 10 Posted September 18, 2012 It would be cool if they added actual groups. So you can form a group and within this group you could use strobes. So if you see a flashing strobe, it's a friendly. Just like in the real world :-).

So you could toggle the laser to say that you're friendly. Problem is, it reveals your position to any hostiles that have NVGs as well.
Mandalore (DayZ) 76 Posted September 18, 2012 If everyone from your group knows where everyone is (by communicating) then you shouldn't have a problem with ff.Unless you're more than 6 people in which case the best way to deal with this is to walk in formation. kingsland 3 Posted September 18, 2012 (edited) My team have positions, it's either column formation for sweeps or a V formation for entering towns. If a team members splits make sure they update everyone on their status like I'm sure they do on twitter... if they so much as bandage themselves they better inform the rest of the group. Mostly I order people to check locations and ask them to stay there until the rest of the group is done looting their location so we can regroup at once. It may not be the most effective way to go about it, but ANYONE that walks in to their building is foe. There have been a few incidents though. I was clearing a grocery store and one of my team members was trying to flank the people in the front by going through the back without informing me and I ended up capping his legs and putting one through his dome.
