CPR and AEDs

Recommended Posts

How about the ability to find an AED in a hospital or medical area? Within a short specified period of time after a player is killed (if they don't choose to respawn, and maybe didn't die from a headshot) CPR could be performed on a corpse by using the AED. This would take another survivor at least a minute or so, and play a CPR-ish animation. This would also have a low rate of success, and would consume the AED. Only one attempt could be made per death.

In a perma-death game this offers a nice incentive to group up without being too unrealistic or overpowered. It would be rare that this would work, but it would be gritty and realistic and offer some of those tense "LIVE GOD DAMN YOU" chest pounding moments when your buddy dies.

Thanks, loving the mod!

Oh cool, I did search using the mobile version of the forums for "CPR" under suggestions, but didn't get any hits. Another search with my cellphone just now also didn't get any hits despite this post. Seems like a lot of people want a lot of medical equipment.

In general, I just want more incentives for grouping up.

Think about it, if you are killed in DayZ you have either: Been hit by a car, shot, hacked to death, mauled to death and eaten or broken all the bones in your body, adding a revival system would make no sense.

Yes, there are "injuries incompatible with life" both IRL and in game, however in a game there is a balance between realism and fun. Even in a game touted as being realistic, there are plenty of features that for the sake of playability can't be 100% true to life.

Might be because people can't seem to tag their threads properly, just look at yours. You tagged it Groups and Teamwork, how is someone searching for what you suggested going to find this thread?

There is no megathread addressing tag standardization. Thus, there is no proper way to tag threads. Tagging right now seems to be arbitrary and just a supplement for a thread title since either are searchable keywords. Oddly, the search function does not key on "CPR" at all. However when I searched for "AEDs" just now I got several hits which is odd.

What? That seriously doesn't make any sense. Use your commen sense and it'll be 'proper'.

If you use the search for Tags you actually find stuff, that is if people would actually use tags and do so properly(which means in a way that makes sense).

I guess someone should actually make a thread on how to use the search.

There's no need to be condescending.

What I'm saying is that right now, users can just type in whatever they want for tags and those words appear in searches just like words in thread titles. The search engine does not appear to weigh tag words over title words although you can specify to search by only tag words like you mentioned. Both fields are searchable, both fields are arbitrary. A well titled thread should be quite visible on the search engine.

I titled this thread "CPR and AEDs" which is pretty specific. I could have tagged it "medical" as well, but I figured "CPR" would be the most searched keyword and left it as is. Conversely, I could have started a thread "All about pancakes" and tagged "CPR, AEDs" with the same effect.

This is moot however, since the real issue like I mentioned is that the search function does not cue on "CPR" or probably any three letter abbreviation.
