Derpy_Hooves (DayZ) 4521 Posted September 17, 2012 OP I'd like to know how to make a visual sweep of large areas. Generally what I do is find a high vantage point and pull out my binocs, but what if the area is mostly flat forrest - what is the most efficacious method of sweeping in this situation? Others' opinions are welcome too.Well saying you are on your own then it's quite a slow and tedious process, i like heading towards the sun as shadows show more and you can see sillouhettes at a distance. when moving to a viewing spot use a wide tree obviously and peer from cover to observe your target are, make sure you scan a large view (240 degrees is what i span) and take a slow careful scan just to make sure you pick out any details that catch your attention.Look for odd shapes also, if they move you are probably onto a target. When moving try and head to cover at most 15ft from your current cover and is sufficiant enough for you to have the view angle of before and when moving stay low amongst the brush cover. Repeat this process over and over but also remember to have a peek behind you from time to time to make sure no one is sneaking behind you.As i group i recommend spreading about 15-20ft in a line, Assault Riflemen on each end of the collumn as they can surpress targets from either angle providing a tighter target area.Shotguns and single shot rifles or small tier firearms should then shape almost like a small diamond head inward until you hit the centre man who should have a sniper angle, as he is the furthers from you're target he is least likely to be hit first and can have time to deal a lethal blow,May i also recommend 2 of the lower tier men in a group carry the medical supplies as they sit behind the main fire force of the assault rifles.Anything else you need covered? Derpy_Hooves (DayZ) 4521 Posted September 17, 2012 So...to get back on topic. What is your advice to smoke out a pesky sniper atop a frigging building?Without sniping him yourself it's basically a trick of as you said "smoking them out the nest" best way is by distracting him. From the sounds of things you know you're target and have a clear view of getting to him, so basically use as much cover as possible and stray inbetween buildings never keeping to a direct route, (the idea is to lose the snipers visual and confuse him.)When within about 50m of getting to you're target building assess what direction you need to gain access to the roof to get your target, have a smoke grenade or say even a grenade at hand and if say the ladders face north then throw your grenade South... anything to lure his eyes away from where you wanna come in.When approaching his nest stay crouched and if possible proned to keep the noise to a minimum (remember he is listening for you aswell), when you reach your target you have the upper hand, scoped weapons are pretty useless at close range, so dispatch him by whatever means, but remember to play the decoy and stay in the cover. If you have an enfield or an AK move to underneath his nest, scopes have a notorious lip at the bottom rendering the sniper blind to fire from beneath, you can be up to about 40m infront of your target and be outta site of his scope (if he is say looking to the hills) so just line up and drop him :)
RogueOne 112 Posted September 18, 2012 While your knowledge of being a soldier could come in handy the mechanics of the game make most of your knowledge a moot point, In real life it's a good idea to find cover before sweeping an area however in game using the ALT key you can run and sweep at the same time which is the preferred method most would use. Stopping is generally a bad idea (most times)

Stopping is generally a bad idea (most times)This is true, but most other players don't play the way i would "play" so to speak, yes moving whilst scanning using ALT is very handy, but i tend to find you miss alot of finer detail compared to when you stop for a few seconds and scan the area. Speed isn't always the key to surviving, noticing the finer details can save your skin just as well.
CM LEGION 29 Posted September 18, 2012 (edited) "Now, this thread is being ruined by twelve year old's arguing about which dick's bigger. That's again, another failure of humanity.95 out of 100 people you argue with on the forums and internet in general, are retards and self proclaimed experts about pretty much any topic they come across. So yeah again, not much to say here.Flame away mongols." Edited September 18, 2012 by CM LEGION

But i am who i say i am, Actually im normally up till 4am yes but gauranteed im up and working by 8am, lack of sleep, something i was exposed to alot in my first 5 weeks of basic.Define "real Soldiers" as the ones i know normally are quite happy to share experiences etc with the right people, and in my case im sharing some knowledge with you guys.Again it falls down to a name and avatar, yes i like MLP and i am a Brony but what has that to do with what i did in the past, trust me not everyone in the Army hides behind iron gates and barbed wire candy floss. We are still only Human and MLP i think has been one of the best Anti-Depressents i've had since leaving the forces. Finally just as a quick note i couldn't care less about your griefing, i mean your helping my thread count stay active so people with genuine questions can get answers or some advice that may be able to help them, unlike people like you who's only help seems to be a bucket full of sarcasm...Morale of my little story... never judge a book by it's cover. I didn't say he is a military expert nor do I know if he actually is. I just made a simple fact clear, which is that retards pretend to be experts about anything said on the forums. If you start using your brain, you'd realize that with this statement the OP is included too, as no one can really tell if he is what he says he is. But those other retards that replied with their troll posts on this thread are just far more humiliating themselves then anyone here.
cern 3 Posted September 18, 2012 Hey, nice of you to answer our questions. I was wondering, I usually play with a friend, and we usually stick to the forest. What is the best way for 2 guys to move through the forest? What formation should we use, how should we be scanning the area etc?

What is the best way for 2 guys to move through the forest? What formation should we use, how should we be scanning the area etc?2 guys make life in a forest much easier, stick almost back to back or as a single column formation.... one always looking back while the other forward (giving you a panoramic 360 view if you communicate properly). While going through the forest break slightly so one pans in front of the other and decide what arcs of fire you want to cover, Ie N >W>S and your friend does N>E>S, again covering your angles, walk crouched and low always listening and looking for anything that doesn't add up, and stick to the deeper forest, snipers and infantry have a harder job shooting at you through large amounts of woodland!
