I found day Z about two days ago, I really wanted to play so i bought ArmA 2. I started the installation and inserted the disks as asked. After that it went to extract all the files, that's when things went bad. I went to 35% and the Free Arc crashed. I tried it again and it did the same thing, So I went to there website and downloaded there software, same thing again. Right after it crashes it will randomly start extracting. When I search ArmA 2 it shows the .EXE, but the shortcut is missing. I went to the game files and only about half of them were there. I have windows 7 if that will help any. Can anyone help? Thanks for any replies in advance.

Try uninstalling Arma 2 and Operation arrowhead, then reinstall them. I would also recommend you use Play withsix launcher. Makes the whole DayZ installation really easy.

Also 1 question. Did you buy the disk version of arma 2: combinded operations?
