I wish zombies were more deadly, and survival more difficult.

I'll put the TL;DR part at the top here. If you want more justification, you can read the stuff I wrote below the a) b) c).

TL;DR: I think it'd be a lot more fun if:

a) zombies were way deadlier (as it is, I can sprint through a town and aggro 30+ zombies without a care, as I just lead them to the closest barn/factory/whatever and take them all out without taking a single ounce of damage).

b) zombies were more common: I wish that building a fire and cooking meat in the wilderness would take longer, and the fire would attract a horde of zombies. I wish that there were roaming armies of zombies in the middle of nowhere, ready to pounce on the sound of gunfire from a mile away.

and c) supplies (especially medical supplies, food, and ammo) were way more scarce. A winchester should feel like a godsend, but when I find one I think 'ok this will work for the next 10 minutes until I find an assault rifle'.

If your ADHD hasn't kicked in yet, here's some thoughts on why:

As it is right now, zombies aren't a threat at all. At the absolute worst, you have to go prone in order to sneak by a few. This is only bad because your chances of dying to another player go up dramatically when you're crawling around in the party submission position. Getting aggro on a few zombies is even less of an issue... you just sprint your way to the closest barn, and take them out in a line. With a pistol and 5+ clips of ammo you can take down 20-100 zombies without breaking a sweat. Again, the only risk there is alerting another homicidal survivor to your position.

Zombies are only a threat to very new characters. By the end of my first day playing, zombies had become such a minor part of the game as to be almost non-existant. They are minor roadblocks to a bean-gathering mission, or a serious irritation when they aggro you through an ATC tower wall (only because they'll give away your position to the ubiquitous airfield bandits).

Now, I love the fact that Dayz's tension arrives from the fact that at any moment someone might start unloading an AK or M4 in your direction. But I think that as it stands, too much of the tension comes from pvp, and too little from zombies. I'd like to see the scales balance out a little bit.

Severely ramping up the difficulty of plain survival would not only make the game way more interesting, but it would probably put a slight curb on the deathmatching threads that have taken over these forums. If you were in cherno and knew that pulling your gun's trigger would bring a horde down on your head that you probably wouldn't survive, it might make you pause for a second. Even moreso, if zombies were actually a threat when in the wilderness, wouldn't it do the same? Lets face it, an absolutely minimal (damn near zero) percentage of players at the NWAF die to zombies. I think it'd be more fun if the pvp there was also tempered with some serious zombie aggro. Sure, camp out those barracks and snipe anyone who comes by, but you'd better use a silenced weapon because an absolute TIDAL WAVE of military zombies are going to close in on you the second you make a noise! :D

I believe that the ease of survival has led to a kind of complacency in a lot of veteran (as veteran as you can be in an alpha...) players. I learned pretty quickly that as a lonewolf I can survive with no problem at all just by collecting basic gear (just deathmatch style run through cherno, and gather tools, if you die just try again) then hoofing it to the forests and living off of deer stands and the occasional well run. After 9 days of played time on my current guy, there is nothing in the game that can threaten me other than the (very low) chance encounter with a homicidal bandit/survivor in the wilderness.

Frankly, I'm a bit bored.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to a post you didn't even read. I'm flattered that you find my thread so important as to type a response in it even if you don't care about the subject! :D

China called...they want their wall back.

EDIT: On a serious note though I would like to see more zombies that move in a horde and totally get rid of the retarded 28 days later zombies. They're dead rotten corpses not olympic sprinters. Also I see your one of the 'live off the land' players and your stating that your bored. Take a risk! There's no leader board yet for longest time lived! So live a little! Get out there and smoke some fools!

The first time I played I was super careful and lasted four days but I got bored too...now I just like to get stuck in!

I don't know I get what the op is saying but I feel like the zombies are at a pretty good level of difficulty as they are. Especially the military ones. The zombies around the mil post in stary for example act as a decent obstacle I think. I can still take them out easily enough but I'm conscious of every bullet wasted and every sound/movement that could give me away to other players.

Ultimately, zombies are just part of the scenery. Also, it's rare but they CAN knock you unconscious at full health and kill you.. I've had that happen and unfortunately my knockout timer kept me out pretty much till I was dead. Of course I felt like this was/is pretty cheap but the fact that it's happened make every potential aggro zombie a real threat.

But yes, the long stretches between towns can be very peaceful and uneventful.. Enough so that it doesn't fit with some people's view of what a zombie apocalypse would be like. But I can't help feeling like that isn't what this game is about, it's about human interaction more than zombies. Just my 2 cents
