Exenima 45 Posted September 12, 2012 So i've been thinking, and well, how many random weapons do you find that all work flawlessly? I mean, there has to be some with missing parts and other malfunctions.Rocket says he want to incorperate crafting into the game, which is a great idea, but i think part of this should incorperate the rebuilding and repairing of weapons. For example, you find a gun, along with a couple of rounds and you think all is well, but, there is something wrong with it, the firing pin is missing and it is unable to fire. To make the weapon fireable again, you must find some scrap metal and craft a new firing pin, and attach it to the gun.I feel as if this would intensify the game, and give it a more survival-like feel. Weapons need to be constantly maintained and looked after, so if you woke up in a post-apocolyptic world, i think a fair few of the weapons will need to be repaired and made up to scratch.I'm just throwing it out there, i don't think anyone has thought of this yet. So yeah, just give me your thoughts.
twitch13 49 Posted September 12, 2012 interesting, but rocket has already stated that he likes the idea of gear/item decay and would like to incorporate it into dayz. i think having items require regular maintenance is a less annoying way of adding a bit of "realism" and a survival aspect to the gunplay without having it be overbearing.having to fix up a weapon as you do a vehicle, while more "realistic," would be tedious and irritating. while i think it's currently a bit too easy to find an effective weapon it is still somewhat challenging and risky to scavenge up the best ones, and adding more steps to that process would simply take away from my enjoyment of the game. having a weapon is fairly crucial in order to do well in dayz, and i think making them less accessible would be a mistake. sheepdawg 278 Posted September 12, 2012 I like it but how many people do you know that can survive the trauma of an apocalypse and ALSO can repair gun parts? It needs to implemented with some serious thought. Is it for realism or is it for "gratification". At my brothers boot camp graduation I watched blindfolded army recruits tear down and reassemble a rifle blindfolded, in under a minute. Personally I am sure I could dismantle and clean a rifle, but then again i work construction and am mechanically inclined. I cant assume some news reporter who calls a maid to clean their house would be able to efficiently repair a weapon, or much for that matter.I do like the idea of a "Fallout: New Vegas" repair system where you have to be at the actual location to do it, you cant just sit in the woods and clean your weapon with nothing.Love the idea of decay etc.I also love the idea of being able to fill a canteen while it rains, but we will see how much drive Rocket and Co. has in the future.
