Ejaculacid 19 Posted June 13, 2012 Lets face it, a game of this stature set on many films over the years really needs to be expand into the world of massive multiplayer online, we've all watched zombie based films & we've always had that inner bandit/cuddly toy screaming out.The current servers of 30, 40, 50 or the highest ive seen is 76 just doesnt do the whole idea justice so in my opinion the game needs to be bigger... ALOT bigger(for example the size of an american state) with being able to support thousands more players/infected or sheep for the welsh here. Ive been banging my head against the desk since AMC The Walking Dead started just picturing the same settings in an mmo world, would be a pretty unique love child.Just a thought that has been bugging for me for years.Edit:inb4 use search, i did & it came up with nothing =[
duddbudda 33 Posted June 13, 2012 word on the street: ARMAIII's map 'Limnos' is 900km^2 and supports 200 players in DayZ
zak757 146 Posted June 13, 2012 Limnos is about 400km^2 and Stratis is 60km^2 in terms of terrain. The actual borders of the map (far out in the water) are where the 900km^2 statistic comes from.Still, that is almost twice the size of Chernarus. The servers can handle 200 players I believe, if that is enough for you.
Yerbs 0 Posted June 13, 2012 It would be very expensive to setup a server or server cloud to do that and would not work in the arma engine. they would have to redesign and build a entire new game. I am with you that a game like this would be good. however i just don't think its feasible for the day z staff.

Yerbs 0 Posted June 13, 2012 the server equipment is more expensive than you think. when I worked at Codemasters they got a shipment of servers in. half a rack. they said about a millions worth in that one. and that was for the websites they host there games using 3rd party servers since it would cost to much to do it otherwise. If you want 1000 players you have to make the game not lag or anything and have standard servers that people are currently renting have enough power and bandwidth to handle it. i can see with optimization the 200 players that Arma 3 is boasting but not 1000 on the Arma 2 engine. Strongarm Steve 1 Posted June 13, 2012 Rocket said in an interview one of their long term goals is to do exactly that.

duddbudda 33 Posted June 13, 2012 why are all MMOs hotkey spreadsheet calculators?because there are no engines that can keep thousands of people in lag-free twitch-friendly environmentARMA's engine is rare brilliance; letting fifty people play together on a map the size of London, letting them share intimacies as simple as a nod in a world with simulation lighting, weather, star and lunar cycles, accurate sound and a highly detailed ballistic model is a spectacular achievementthere isn't another game that even believes ARMA's engine is possible, let alone an MMO matching it
Strategos (DayZ) 190 Posted June 13, 2012 Rocket has suggested that hed like to go down a similar road to EVE onlines tranquility servers. Which would be pretty incredible , have a look at their current figures http://eve-offline.net/?server=tranquilityThey are all players in one unsharded world. But if it doesnt go down that route be prepared to pay a monthly fee , there is some serious hardware behind that lot.http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Tranquility
